Yes, most of the nude NPCs share the same model with only skin tint for variation. The notable exception would be Iron Bull, who, like Isabela before him, as an unique body. So Dorian, Cullen, and the male Trevelyan all have the same body in all of the cutscenes. This is why I don't believe that players should take them at face value for what their bodies actually look like.

Sigh... I REALLY wish that Bioware would work on their body tech so that we can have unique bodies. But I'm sure it would be a trade off with something else, so... who knows really.

At any rate, might I suggest the tattoo from the Dorian concept art?

Spoiler

I don't think that Trevelyan's bare arms are visible in the standard cinematic, so it would be pretty awesome for screenshot-taking purposes to have the concept tattoo on Dorian in that scene. I'm not sure, but it might also appear when he's wearing his armor and has the bare arm upgrades, so that would be great as well.

You would first have to try and copy it over and make a custom shape so it can be resized and look actually decent.

Do you have The Art of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and are you able to scan it? If not I'll can see what I can do, along with making a PS shape for you. But no promises on quality.

Yeah, them sharing a body is what stopped me from adding the tattoos to his arm, but you do have a good point that aside from the romance scene The IQ and Cullen's naked bodies won't be seen.  It'll just be strange for someone romancing Cullen if they wish to install the mod. lol!!  I forgot all about his Tattoo from the concept art. I would love to add it to his body! Someone actually did a drawing of the tattoo that is very high quality.  I'll see if they're willing to let me use it. Would they even have the right to grant permission to use it? it does belong to BW. idk. But I'll see.

I finished my latest run through last night and had something really weird happen during the last battle with the sarabaas.   It occurred to me that playing through with essentially the same character but just making different choices is a bit like the Inquisitor reliving their adventures in their mind and wondering how things would have turned out if they'd had decided differently.    So based on the strange happening in the penultimate scene, I give you the Nightmare:

Near the end of the last battle Dorian gets knocked unconscious and his simulacrum kicks in.   We're surrounding by angry spirits at this point and Vivienne doesn't have enough power to revive him.   Then Cassandra yells, "use the mark" to kill the sarabaas.   So I do.   Just before the cut scene starts I see spirit forms being sucked into the ether.   When we return to the main screen, Dorian isn't there.    I know you can't control people any more at this time but I always like to take on last look at Dorian before jumping through the mirror, but he's gone.   I start running around hoping to find him lying on the ground.   Then as I pass Cassandra I see that she has no head.   Arhh!!!!  (At this point I decided to reload).

The Inquisitor wakes up in a cold sweat lying in Dorian's arms.     He is shaking uncontrollably.

"Amatus, what on earth happened?"

"I was experiencing my worst nightmare."

"Worse than losing your arm?"

"Much worse.    Vivienne was Divine, I decapitated Cassandra with the mark and as for you......."   He holds on to Dorian tightly, just to reassure himself that he is truly awake.  Then he gives a relieved sigh.   "It was all so real."

A thought occurs to him and he sits up abruptly, looking questioningly at Dorian.

"Dreamers can enter your mind can't they and mess with it as you sleep?"

"So I understand.   I hope you're not suggesting I...."

"Don't be ridiculous.    I have experienced this before though.    He said it was because of the anchor but that was probably only so I wouldn't suspect him."   He lays back down in Dorian's arms and says with feeling,   "I really hate Solas."

I'm actually starting to really hate his clothes.

The only thing I hated about his clothes was I couldn't find the style I liked on a master level. Other than that, I love that toga wearing mustache man.

You can always romance her with a female quizzy instead. :) No chance to get swept away by Dorian then.

That's about the only way I can avoid him.

From DHMG to where we are now... some of the earlier parts of the thread are funny in hindsight (chevalier? Rhys? Ha!). It's been a wild ride and there's so much stuff here that I didn't know about before.

I can picture it now. I'll flirt with her as a female character but then, hey, what's this about the mages in Redcliffe? Meet me in the chantry, you say? WHOOPS better remake as a male character.

Also, I noticed someone here accidentally spelling his surname as "Parvus"... which means short in Latin... It'd be kind of ironic if he's both altus and parvus.

Both Morry and Pseudo... Since you read through the whole thread after doing the romance, did your views on anything regarding the character or the romance change? We've talked about so many things in this thread: Dorian's insecurities, his reasons for doing/saying something (or not), the reactions to the different paths the romance can take, the possibility of him returning to Tevinter, and so on, and some of this was enhanced by the release of WoT Vol. 2 and the Dorian information therein. So I'm curious as to how your opinion evolved.

My first play was as a fem mage that romanced Cullen, which was planned out before ever starting the game on release day. But then I met Dorian and knew I had to create a guy just for him, and I've been playing that character ever since. In those early days I avoided these forums because I didn't want to be spoiled by anything. I've also never participated in the character threads in any great fashion, until this one. But I came into this thread around late 600s or early 700s because I was primarily looking for information regarding whether he stays or goes in relation to your choice during the post-Mythal conversation. I avoided the thread until after I finished the romance and then I've been hanging around ever since.

Most of my views have remained the same, but many are more nuanced as I've had to write out my thoughts, both in this thread and in fanfic. Hearing different perspectives from other players and getting to have involved conversations was also quite formative.

*I took a big chunk of text out. That's how you do it, right?*

Honestly, I started the thread pretty much convinced that his appearance was Italian/Mediterranean but then I played the Last Resort of Good Men and saw his father, so that went out the window faster than that one Venatori who gets brutally defenestrated in the Winter Palace. I also developed an appreciation for the no moustache mod. On a more serious note, I had no idea about the whole delinquency and debauchery thing in WoT which firstly is a relief cause he has to have some character flaws, and secondly actually made me kind of respect him for maturing and growing past that. I know people who have done the whole "squander my education then turn things around", so yeah, I do respect him for that. Through Dorian I've also become enamored with Tevinter society, culture and language, which seems fascinating but we've just seen so little. Is asking for some actual sentences in actual Tevene too much? Please, DA4, if we get anything, let it be Tevene or an explanation of the whole "ten silk scarves" thing.

The whole slavery discussion was interesting but so frustrating as there were some people who insisted on "oh, he supports slavery so he's evil and a bad character" when they'd clearly misinterpreted both his argument and his character. I do wish they'd given us the option to change his views though, because I know he's open-minded enough for it to be possible. As for post-Temple of Mythal, I told him he could return to Tevinter, mainly because if the situations were reversed then would want my lover's approval to follow my ambitions. To be honest, I'm not particularly good at analysing characters. I tend to just read other people's discussions and form my own opinions but not partake in them so much.

I've only just started playing the game quite recently; I fought Corypheus a couple of days ago. I mostly go on the mire of self-righteousness and misguided activism that is Tumblr so all I'd seen about Dorian was that that he's gay and some people got miffed (that's an understatement) that someone made a bi mod. And his arse, I'd seen that too. Fast forward about a month and he's got a permanent place in my party. As I've only done one playthrough, I haven't had a chance to take some of the alternative romance routes, but next time I'll definitely be going for the Dorian-initiated kiss instead. Am I the only one who thinks he looks really good in blue? My first playthrough will forever be tragically ruined by xbox 360 graphics, however. During his recruitment conversation in Haven he doesn't actually load properly so he spent the entire time with his moustache up his nose.

The moustache up his nose isn't confined to Xbox.   I get it on PC too.    Not all the time; it varies enough  that each time a screen loads I'm praying "don't let it be up his nose this time."   Luckily it tends to be normal in all the major scenes; it would have been just too disappointing if it had ever occurred during a romance conversation.

I agree, he does look great in blue, any shade will do but the darker the better.    Looks great in gold and black as well; shows off the serpents in his costume design to good effect.    I kitted my entire team out in gold/black/white one run and we really looked impressive.

Dorian can carry off pretty much anything you put on him but definitely avoid the Sentinel plate.   It is designed for elves so it makes his legs look too thin.   I favour a Zorro look for him with that rakish mage hat.    Stick him on a horse and send him galloping across country and he really looks dashing.   (Pretty good double for Tyrone Power too).

I saw some of the gold and black concept designs and they look so much better than the... brown straps that we've been given, to be honest. Can you use darkened samite to get black cloth? I never seem to have enough of it to craft anything. One thing I'm sure of though: he looks incredible in that heavy armour with the bare arm.

It may well have been darkened samite that gave me the black colour.    You get more of it on a CoJ run than HW because of the greater number of Venatori you meet and they seem the ones who drop the most.     However, use the tinting table.   Then you only need one item per slot to give you the colour you want.    Towards the end of the game I nearly always use dragon crafting items because they have the highest rating but if I don't like how the colour turns out, then I tint it to what I want.   One run I spent no end of time crafting items and then playing around with tints and this was mostly for Dorian, although I like my Inquisitor to look good too.    I never used to have any interest in crafting until Dorian came along.   His fashion sense rubbed off on me.

Both Morry and Pseudo... Since you read through the whole thread after doing the romance, did your views on anything regarding the character or the romance change?

I think the thread actually made Dorian's character grow more on me? Like, of course i adored him from when I first romanced him. But I think seeing everyone's discussion about him and people doing into detail about his views or those offhand comments he'll make when you're out in the world with your party had me thinking in a more "realistic" way about him? I dont know what word to use really, but the more i saw people go into more detail about his character the more he grew on me like a real person, not "just" a character. And I think it's gotten me more in love with him than I was at the start of knowing who he was.

I did like seeing people pull apart dialogue about Dorian's views on slavery - actually really any opinion of Dorian's that some people read as 'bad' or 'controversial' was interesting to read discussion of here. It didn't really alter my opinions but I did like to see how people read it, mostly because I'm not always the best at hearing something and getting it right away, which is why i wish i could easily replay his dialouge haha.

When i first met him in game I had just bought the game, but DA:i was my first dragon age game, and so i was reading about how the game worked and I discovered there were romances I looked at the characters. But I didn't read a single thing about them - I looked at their preferences and made my first character off of my first potential LI, which was Dorian (I did this process for DAO and DA2 when I played them after DAI). I didn't know what he was like, I didn't know what the romance in DA was like at all, I just went in blind. It didn't take me long to be head-over-heels for him. I found it hard to even make a new character to romance someone new because I was so overly attached to his character, i just wanted to relive is over and over (the one save I still have from my first quizy is the save before you meet dorian in your quarters, just so I can replay it).

Since beating my first character profile I eventually started other romances, and they are sweet and I like them too but since Dorian was my first and I love him so much, he is still my number one fave.  I also didn't read the forum thread until I beat the Trespasser DLC, to avoid spoilers. I plan to remake my first quizy when i rebuy DAI on the PC, since I messed up a looot of things running through blind (accidentally chose templars and missed dorian bc of that, sided w other ppl i didnt want to because i didnt know it was a permanent choice, missed all of the companions aside from cole and dorian, etc) which will be fun i think, because i would love to relive my first dorian romanced quizy.

Thanks for the responses :D.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks really good in blue?

He looks good in anything... I also really like his default starting outfit. The silk looks really nice with the plush fustian velvet.

As for blue, yes he does look quite good. I think the reason is the blue shine on the black hair and the grey eyes. Unfortunately for me, I have a thing about putting my whole party in Inquisition matching red/black/gray, so I don't really get to see Dorian wearing much else.

For black, the closest cloth is the gray of darkened samite, and great bear fur for leather. PC players can use mods, of course, but it is a shame that they didn't include at least one true black cloth.

I think Alexius's remark about it is the most revealing. Dorian isn't just being a "bad boy," he's in pain and acting out. Oh, I don't doubt that there are levels -- he enjoys sex and drink, and he knows how to have a good time. But it's also self-destructive and he knows that too, and I think he does want to p*ss off, and embarrass, his father -- he can't please him, can he? So he may as well go the opposite extreme -- in the way he knows will be the most effective.

Writing this into fanfic is something I struggled with because I don't want to force too much angst (I love writing angst) onto the character when he might not actually have it. Unfortunately, that one line in Alexius's letter, as well as one of Dorian's remarks about drinking -- "Plus, I was busy drinking. One must have priorities" -- are really the only indicators of how Dorian might feel about his behavior. So even when I write it out as engaging in the behavior as a way to escape his pain, or spite his father, I also try to illustrate that he was having "fun" at the time, in his way. And of course that leads into the "I want more than just fun" remark by the Inquisitor, which I also incorporate. And too, I think it can be used as a reason why sex with the Inquisitor isn't a priority. He's had a lot of it. And although he does enjoy it, and enjoys it with the Inquisitor, being intimate in other ways is also nice, and something that he craves.

There's a mod that gives Dorian a nice hairy butt, for those who like that.....ahem....

But it'll also give every human, elf, and dwarf the same....package.....so be warned.

Ha, nightscrawl, your story is pretty much the same as mine! I planned, and played, a Cullenmancing female mage for my first playthrough, and while I loved the Cullen romance and that character, I totally fell in love with Dorian and had to create a male Quizzy for him once I was done, who is now my 'canon' quizzy. I then went back and read through every single page of this thread, heh. Although, I think I'd always known I'd love Dorian - I was following this thread even when he was still DHMG. ;)

Enjoying the armour talk, as dressing up my party is one of my favourite things to do in DAI. ;) My Inquisition's main colours were red, black and gold, so my Inquisitor and Dorian's main armours looked like this:

Spoiler

Later on, towards the very end of the game, I made Dorian a slightly different outfit, still keeping the red theme but bringing some of his signature white back in:

Spoiler

Like so many of you, I also love him in blue, so for Trespasser, to sort of represent the time that had passed etc, I made him a blue and white outfit that I loved.

Spoiler

Oh, and during the main game I also made him a heavy armour set in blue, but didn't use it too much as I wasn't crazy about the stats. It looked great, though.

Spoiler

And finally, while I liked the new Trespasser armour a lot on my lady Quizzys, poor Dorian had some serious muscle wastage going on...

I'm not terribly sociable, but I feel creepy just lurking, and Dorian's wardrobe is my weak point. I'm a little late for trick-or-treat, but here's some eye candy anyway before I crawl back into my lurker corner.

<SNIP>

So MANY gorgeous shots, thanks for sharing. If I may ask... are you using certain crafting and texture mods for the materials, or did you do some of those tints yourself? I'm particularly curious about that all-silver look you've got going on in the very last SS. I'd also like to know what ReShade or SweetFX you're using in those all-black shots :D.

Also very nice :D. I tend to keep everyone in the same thing throughout the whole game. And since I went through the effort to create mods bringing the whole Inquisition into matching red/black/gray, putting my people in something else would seem weird at that point. But... I'm really considering a blue run for the next play, at least for Dorian and my guy. It will be new new and refreshing.

I'm another serial Dorian romancer. I told myself that I'd try another this time, but who was I kidding? I knew it was hopeless as soon as Dorian said this to my Inquisitor:

I've already had the Cassandra banter relating to our romance. It's never triggered this early before, Dorian hasn't even admired the Inquisitor's "quarters" yet.
