My headcanon about Dorian is that he has a major sweettooth.
There's a discussion with Varric how he wants the winnings from his bet as candied dates.
Another instance with Varric, I think Varric was using a metaphor about Tevinter handing out xxx like candy, and Dorian replied with '' yes, but its mostly the black licorice with salt kind, not the good stuff! '' implying that he has enough knowledge about candy/sweets to form an opinion on whats good and whats not, and he doesn't seem to like salty licorice. Tho I guess he'd have more opportunities to taste different sweets than a regular runt.
I think it's rather cute though, and oddly fitting.

^ Well, I don't know about "major," but I think the man does like his candy. I incorporated that into a fic I wrote -- no, it's not as cutesy as it sounds. I really liked the licorice line, partly because I also cannot stand black licorice -- I always eschewed the black jellybeans. I think that candied dates specifically might also be a nostalgic food for him.
Following along with Tevinter as an analogue to Rome, I also have a head-canon that Dorian likes fish and seafood, as those were staples of the Roman diet. Also, both Qarinus and Minrathous are port cities, so I'd imagine that seafood would be a large part of the diet there. Alas, he likely wouldn't get much of that at Skyhold.
BUT, I do wonder how much the writers incorporate their own selves into things like this, or if they just come up with little quirks they think might suit the character. For example, Fenris has a banter line in DA2 that is disparaging of fish. Does David Gaider dislike fish and black licorice, or are those things just for those characters? That's something I'd really like to know.
Nice to see you in the Dorian thread

Well, I like to think he has a major sweettooth because I oddly find it fitting for his character. You know, a bit tangy and sour on the outside, but sweet and sugary on the inside, that's Dorian (to me).
Hmh, possibly, I wonder how much effort goes into character creation, do they think of things like favorite food, hobbies, favorite color and so forth. Could be. Would be fun to know! BW really should've released some silly comics about the daily life in Skyhold. It wasn't all rubbish and dank allday everyday. The tavern was busy, at least.

I think that as well. Same for the wooden duck that Cole bring to his bed...some sweet childhood memories, I assume.

*has given up on her Dorian Romance, the fetch quest were too much for her* Annnnnddddd thats the sad story of how I refused to do grueling fetch quests for Dorian....
There are no fetch quests for the Dorian romance... The only quest he has in that regard is a standard approval farm that only requires you to kill three groupings of Venatori, 2/3 of which are very easily found in the Hinterlands.
I was looking back on the thread and someone posted a video of Dorian's crisis scene for when after you romance him. The video doesn't work anymore, but has anyone tried it? I'm half tempted to do it but that'll be a lot of work when I just want to see one little snippet (and would sorely be disappointed if it plays out like the regular crisis scene after all that work). I have to say even though I hate breaking Dorian's heart, he makes the saddest faces ever.
I take it you mean when you have the opportunity to punch him and all that? I think it would be extremely difficult to tank his approval once the romance is locked in. However, I wouldn't count on it being really unique. It might be, you never know.
I wouldn't watch it myself (I haven't watched the standard one, either), but I am curious to know whether it is in fact unique. So if you decide to experiment -- for science! -- do report on your findings.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's included in this one. I don't want to check and see it again, made the mistake a few months ago and it destroyed my mood for the rest of the day. ![]()

Okay, this was pretty hard to go through... damn my curiosity! But wow, it feels like another game completely when you watch these scenes, because I'm so used to watching the '' good '' cutscenes. Kinda amazing tbh. What killed me the most was how broken and afraid Sera looked when the inquisitor told her to scram and that if she is not an archer, she's the target... Damn...
Really enjoyed that Dorian didn't let the inquisitor walk all over him, and fought back with his words.
Anyway, I need to look at something light-hearted right now. Like this adoribull gif!

Thanks. I never saw it yet Dorian, Blackwall and Solas so angry one like this.

Spoiler
Uff yeah, don't really want to see any of these ever in my game.
In my most recent one I hit the 'You don't fit the Inquisition' line by accident when talking to Sera in Haven, which isn't even that '''bad''' of a line.
You can instantly be like 'Ok, no, please stay.' again but it annoyed me so much that I loaded an earlier save. ![]()

Lol yes I accidentally did this too. I alt+f4 immediately. I never kick people out...
Also, I admit that I didn't watch it, but the person was specifically asking whether the crisis scene differed for a romance. So is that in there?

Hitting all the options you don't want to take on accident is so damn radffsdasdfwf! And then the game decides to autosave at exact that moment, arrrgh.
Currently playing on a PS4 for the first time, limited save space and no alt+f4 makes this a tiiiny bit frustrating.
I'm quite sure it's in there. As I said, watched it months ago, also not interested in seeing it again for obvious reasons.
From what I remember, it's not all that different to the non-romanced one. Just more sad than angry.

Geez, it's sad just thinking about it. In his head, he must be so upset because he thought he knew the Inquisitor, and it just must seem like yet another person letting him down (Halward, Alexius). And then there is anger at himself for maybe believing this could be a real thing. And just... omg.
Damn you xblkdragonx for posting this question! *shakes fist* (I kid... sort of.) ;}

Just comfort yourselves with the fact that if his time with the Inquisitor ends badly, Dorian has the last laugh, literally. He still returns as ambassador to Tevinter but I think rather enjoys the fact that his star is ascending just as the Inquisitor is losing their power. It is not ideal because of course he has no loyal friend/lover in his life, which is really sad, but at least he can feel there is some justice in the world. (Only ever seen this on You Tube out of curiosity because I find it really hard to be unkind to anyone - the worst I do is simply ignore them and I never do that with Dorian anyway; he's always either my BFF or my lover in every run).

YUP! This was it! Thank you so much!
Whoa, so the crisis scene does play differently if you romance Dorian. I thought it'd be more heart wrenching, but considering the IQ earned so much disapproval from Dorian, I wouldn't be surprised if Dorian fell out of love with the IQ. The "so much for us" line killed me ><.
@nightscrawl: save for a few 2-3 lines, it plays out the same. But basically Dorian implies he's breaking up with the IQ even before the punch lol.
Haha again, thank you for finding this. I would hate to play my game this way and driving off any of my companions, especially a romanced Dorian.
EDIT: I am supremely impressed at the difference between the crisis scenes between a romanced LI and non-romanced LI. The romanced crisis scenes are pretty damn sad for all of them. So much disappointment and bitterness. Also kudos for the person that made this video. That took a lot of effort.

I'm saying the filler quests in game stopped me..... I was too stick of them to continue and I was pretty far along in mine too. I was at the smexy scene, lol.

That 'So much for us' line is the WORST! ![]()

Yup! I was looking at that channel originally, but they only had the standard crisis scene, not the romanced version (since it was a female IQ in their video). LOL I admit, I spent countless hours on their channel already, watching all the scenes play out hahaha. So same, same xD. The high approval epilogue slide with Dorian made me feel a little better about his ending with the IQ. They are so in love with each other.
Dude, and the "I should've seen this coming. You and I? What a laugh," also got me. His hope for a real relationship shattered right there, and his fear realized. Ouch, rewatching it, you catch the stutter in his voice. On rewatch, this is hurting me more than the first time.

Stop it, it's so horrible.
I'll never watch any of these again.
When Inquisitor is all like 'Let's keep this casual then' after the sex scene it's even bad enough, Dorians VA really did an excellent job in these.
I hate that stuff, Dorians romance is all about finally getting into a meaningful relationship, who in their right mind would play it like this on purpose? Argh!
I always feel like I'm a bit boring for almost always replaying my same canon Inquisitor (obviously Dorian romance) and never trying something else out but then I realize... Dorian can't be alone! Nope! Not happening. (And not an Adoribull fan so that's out for me.

OMG yes! I reloaded a save to see how the dialogues played out, and Dorian's face when you said "let's keep it casual". It was so sad! I was like nope. I went back immediately and gave Dorian all the love he deserved haha.
Although after I hit "let's keep it casual", I went to find Dorian in the library, the option "begin a romance" popped up. It plays out the same, of course, but the order of sequence in which it happened made me imagine the IQ regretted his words and decided to begin a real relationship with Dorian haha. I am of the opinion that the alternative kiss after they confront Mother Giselle and "taking it slow" is my preferred way of playing it. Too bad for all the bugs though if you make those choices :/
Lol I'm still on my first playthrough, but I can already see in my second playthrough I'm gonna romance Dorian again. Dang his glorious mustache. And to think I wasn't going to romance him the first go around because of how curly it was.
