I don't know who pointed it out (either nightscrawl or Gervaise), but after the Temple of Mythal and Dorian informs you that he intends to go back to Tevinter, if you look at Dorian's facial expression, he looks disappointed if you okay his leaving. If you choose instead "I need you", Dorian's mouth says "it's emotional blackmail" but his entire expression is of relief and joy. Maybe we were reading too much into it, but I like to see it as Dorian wanting the IQ to ask him to stay, but too prideful/afraid to say it out loud. A lot about Dorian is that you can't take him at face value, but have to look for subtleties.
There's a couple more things I want to say, but I'm quite tired. However, I do like to point out that if you choose "the emotional blackmail" option, Dorian puts Tevinter on the back burner for two years for the IQ, and was with him at Skyhold the entire time. His sole purpose was to reform Tevinter, but for the IQ, he stalled and stalled. It might have been offscreen, but yes, Dorian was an adornment on the IQ's arm. The IQ ran around fixing the world while Dorian stayed in Southern Thedas for him when he could've gone back to Tevinter and begin the reform. If you choose to be understanding, Dorian is away for two years. That is the IQ being not selfish. However, if the IQ was selfish, Dorian stay with him instead during that time. So if the IQ is allowed a little selfishness, I think Dorian is too. But I do feel if he wasn't for his dad's sudden death, Dorian would've been happy to continue his time with the IQ in Southern Thedas. The need to reform Tevinter didn't seem immediate, but with his father's death and his promotion to magister, their bubble is burst so to speak.

I agree with that assessment. I also feel that even if he'd held out a bit longer, once Tevinter came under attack he would have gone back. I'd have thought less of him if he hadn't felt the need to return and try and save his country after all his previous assertions.
You are obliged to do a lot of RP of your individual Inquisitor to flesh out the relationship and of course everyone is different in the way they view things but I am still happy with the way the relationship developed. In my case, I took the selfish option, Dorian stuck around for 2 years after defeating Corypheus when much of the time we weren't doing anything important; I think there is a conversation somewhere that says that all the Inquisitor has been doing is paperwork. So it does seem fair enough to me for the Inquisitor to step back and let Dorian have a go at doing something meaningful for his beloved country, plus find his father's killers. Dorian believes that we still have a future together and so do I; we might not be physically in contact but we can talk whenever either one feels the need, so there is still the emotional connection and support, which the epilogue confirms is an important source of strength for Dorian and in the case of my Lavellan, vice versa.

I'll see if I can finally play. A little confusion for me that he asked for a serious relationship, then he does not want to talk about the future.

I think he wants a relationship that isn't all about sex , you can have a "serious" relationship and have no bloody clue if you're still going to be with the person in a couple of years or not.

It might have been offscreen, but yes, Dorian was an adornment on the IQ's arm.
I understand what you're saying here, but I really dislike this phrasing because it plays into Dorian's insecurities. It also depends on what your particular Inquisitor does and his personality. Mine is not flashy and would prefer a quite night reading and cuddling with his boyfriend; he only does the "Inquisitor" thing, like at Halamshiral, when absolutely necessary. As an example, one of the Josephine Skyhold messenger banters between her and Dorian has them wrangling over an invitation to the Wintersend Ball in Lydes. If Dorian wanted my Inquisitor to go with him, he would. He also would not begrudge him going alone if Dorian wanted to do that.
But you know, he makes a joke at Halamshiral about dancing -- "Dancing with the evil magister, in full view of every noble in Orlais? How shocking," -- but I'd imagine that it was quite meaningful to him for exactly that reason.
(This gave me a fic idea! Thanks!)
But I do feel if he wasn't for his dad's sudden death, Dorian would've been happy to continue his time with the IQ in Southern Thedas.
I disagree. I think he would eventually become restless and feel the need to take some sort of action. Keep in mind that when Trespasser starts he has already been in Tevinter for at least a month. I think it can safely be assumed that he made that choice before his father died. The writing is on the wall, really.
I'll see if I can finally play. A little confusion for me that he asked for a serious relationship, then he does not want to talk about the future.
That's a bit unfair, IMO. His final line of the conversation is, "I… don’t know what the future holds. For us or anything. That’s my honest answer. Once Corypheus is defeated, when this is over… I’d like to talk about it more. If you would."
He does seriously answer the question and asks for your patience. It's up to you, but as the world is ending and the future unknown, I've never had an issue with his response. The earlier portion of the conversation, and how that plays out, depends on the dialogue options chosen. For me, his flippancy and self-desparagement is frustrating and sad, but I understand where it's coming from. While it's *sigh* worthy, I don't have much issue here either.
Also, if you take the "Maybe that would be best" path, he says he is happy with whatever time you have, while it lasts. He can't get more clear than that.
Dorian as a person, and as a romance option, requires patience. Some people (and players) can deal with that and other can't. It's not a bad thing if you can't, everyone is different. Some people need their LI to be more overt with their affection, whereas I don't. I can see that Dorian does care and wants to be with my Inquisitor. Again, everyone is different.

Aaand done.

Trespasser in the future, for now, I'll let them enjoy the remaining time they have together!
And after that, Arthur is going to be the strong, understanding boyfriend and let Dorian go reform Tevinter as if it was not a big deal.
I can definitely enjoy Dorianmance much more if I go for it from a more RP point of view.

Just thought I'd share this. This is one of my favorite scenes with him, and also one of the better ones to take screenshots in. No mods, just some color correction and a filter use in Photoshop.

Is it weird that one of the things I like most about Dorian is how realistic his birthmark looks? ![]()
#21863
Posté 26 mars 2016 - 06:22
^ That's a mole, not a birthmark. But it is certainly one example of the care that the devs put into the NPC models. All of the followers having unique faces and textures was pretty fantastic.
[edit]
Never mind! I didn't know that moles could be birthmarks, but apparently they can. However, in his case we don't know whether he had it at birth or it developed later on, which also happens.

So a birthmark is something you get at birth and a mole develops later on? English is not my first language and in Dutch we have 1 word for both.
#21865
Posté 26 mars 2016 - 01:08
Sorry for the confusion. There are different types of birthmarks. A mole is one type of birthmark. But there are also different types of moles. Some moles are birthmarks, in that the person has them at birth; other moles develop later on in life.

I'd just like to say, as good looking as Dorian is, it isn't his looks that made me love his character it's the wonderful voice talent and skilled programmers that brought him to life. Same with Cullen. The facial expressions and emotional delivery of their lines made them both so lovable... mind you Dorian's naked bottom scene was also a plus. ![]()

I agree, Ramon Tikaram's wonderful voice acting is what really made Dorian come alive and why I think he had such a lasting affect on me. I notice that whenever Ramon is featured in an article and a potted history is given of his previous career, there is always a mention of Dragon Age, so I think he is probably quite proud of what he achieved with Dorian too.

I agree, his voice actor is amazing. I love that part when you're in Redcliffe with Dorian's father and Dorian says 'you tried to change me'. His expression and voice in that moment, one of the best I've ever seen and heard.

I haven't posted in here in forever. It's been so long my profile doesn't even show my old posts.
I just finished the main game, no dlc, with a rogue, and wanted to share some screenies. I have several mods installed that alter the characters (Dorian sans mustache, it's sacrilege, I know!). I did get him to stay with my Inq at the end, so that's satisfying, but there's still other things that sort of rankle (not necessarily related to Dorian, though more interaction with him would have been great). I am thinking about writing more fanfiction, as my single story still gets regular kudos on Archive of our Own, and I spend a lot of time thinking about potential stories and scenes in my head to flesh out my characters. I have a few ideas, one for my mage in my original story, one for my warrior, and one for my rogue I just finished with. I still have the mage to complete the game with, and my warrior has barely finished any story quests.
There's so much potential, and there's other aspects that leave me slightly dissatisfied because of a feeling of lack of depth. Hopefully I can get the dlcs over the next few weeks to get the complete feeling of the story, but before that, I keep feeling a need to delve into my own characters in fanfiction. I dunno. I just want more.
Pictars:
I still can't get enough of Dorian. His insecurities and how happy he is when my Inq reassures him, or how upset he gets when my Inq is in danger is adorable. I especially love when my boy wakes up at the Temple after
So yeah. That's my rambling.

You've got a pretty Inqui Senusenu but Dorian without mustache , I have to say :MAKER NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
It's not that it looks back it's just it's the mustache!
Suddenly Dorian isn't spending 20 minutes every morning checking his facial hair and doing who knows what to make it look like this.

Nice to see so many familiar faces still around here ![]()

A birthmark can be a mole or something which sort of resembles a bruise which never healed, but brownish instead of purplish like a normal bruise. But people refer to both interchangeably. Also, people sometimes refer to a mold on the face (particularly if it is near the lip area) as a beauty mark.

Senusenu was me, I figured out I logged in with the wrong profile. Hahaha, yeah, I know, the 'stache is remarkable, but I wanted to try something different. I do quite like that mohawke though!
I have so many pretty elves for Dorian XD
There's never enough elves to romance Dorian with

I can't wait to see what happens in the DLC when I get them.
Dorian remains my favorite, though I am going to try out the Cullen romance, too. I could listen to Dorian read all day long if it was an option. I absolutely love his voice. Dorian and Fenris have my favorite VAs so far out of the DA series, something about them is almost soothing to me, plus how distinctive they are. Just fantastic tones to listen to when either of them speak.

Since Dorian is now a Magister, I sincerely hope that his Tevinter magic hasn't gone awry...
We somehow both ended up on the Asari colony Cyone fighting Reapers in 2186. We also ran into Garrus (
