Tarot cards all have incredibly vague, varied meanings, which is why they're effective at convincing people you've applied them to their individual situation. You can basically shotgun the meanings and get a hit for anyone. lol

The one thing that stands out, to me, with the Hierophant (it's definitely the Hierophant, based on the hand and staff, I'd say) is that it can be applied as a suggestion to question what you currently accept as right as far as religious and political affiliations go. There's a lot of implications tied to it of questioning your beliefs and what is the "right" thing.

The snake/tentacle isn't in the Rider-Waite deck that most people know. If it's a snake, it could be a Tevinter thing. They used serpent symbolism a lot. If it's a tentacle, then I have no idea.

It looks alot like a tentacle to me. And isn't his staff designed as a trident? If so, it could fit with a sea motif.

I am not familiar with tarot cards but I did a quick google search on the hierophant. It basically says conformity to established (usually religious) norms. At least that's one definition of it.

I was thinking: what if he follows the teaching of the black devine to a tee? While blood magic (and other corrupt things) are illegal in Tevinter it is still being used. When it 1st started the Tevinter chantry was not at all bad. Until they split.

Ooohh, the Hierophant. Tricky business.

From what I can see/know/remember, hierophant is a leader of moral values and of learning. It can also be the opposite; someone who spreads lies/deceit and leads people in all sorts of shenanigans.

And consider Sir DHMG is probably going to be Tevinter, this will be a verrrry interesting choice of card for him to represent, lol.

Found this while on Tumblr. Definitely looks like our guy. And with a tentacle to boot.

The tentacle with a sort of stone coloring? Maybe he's standing near one of these Disturbing_Statue.png

Specifically when you're trapped in the Fade by a Sloth demon while working your way up the Circle tower, the quest was called The Fade: Lost in Dreams. It's in one of the first areas you see after meeting Niall.

It's also one of the first things you see in the Harrowing- and it has a codex entry about the Black City.

Probably nothing, but the Hierophant card have these two keys, which are similar to one of the map markers. Though upsidedown.

So I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm curious if folks think DHMG is gonna be a blood mage by virtue of his having been (or still being) a Magister? Fenris seemed pretty convinced that the only Magisters who didn't use blood magic were the weak ones.

Fenris was pretty biased. I don't think we can really trust his estimation. I'm pretty sure Maevaris wasn't a blood mage, was she?

Yeah, I mean look at his main exposure to magisters. I'm sure Denarius had a lot of not so nice opinions about mages who wouldn't stoop to blood magic, and that probably stuck with Fenris a bit.

Yeah, that's valid. I mean, I'm sure there are Magisters who aren't blood mages. It'd be interesting if part of the reason DHMG is in exile is because he refused to properly play The Game (Tevinter's version anyway), and without resorting to blood magic, he couldn't be taken seriously.

In that case, do you think someone else will practice blood magic in our party? Or do you think Bioware is just gonna skip the whole blood magic thing this time (since they've already taken it out as a specialization)?

I'm not sure. I think they really might skip blood magic this time. It's possible either Dorian or Solas could practice it, but I'm leaning towards thinking they have skipped it this game. I'm sure we'll probably see a lot of NPCs (soon to be enemies lol) using it, though.

Lambert's experience kind of fit with Fenris.
It might be that there are strong magister/ that don't use BM (and I think Dorian might be one of such), they might be exceptions.
We'll see in the case Dorian is a magister and talks about Tevinter.

I don't think he's a blood mage

Since he gets a rise out of people stereotyping him (tevinter =bloodmage central)

I think it needs to be handled better than "literally anything bad happens to a mage and WELP TIME FOR BLOOD MAGIC".

In DA2 it was literally like 'Everybody is sh*t, kill them all' where as in DAI, i feel that we'll see a little less insanity from them, I hope.

DHMG would be a shining example of a lucid, non-crazy and non-paranoid mage.

I hope.
