To me, it still looks like a boa. The spots don't seem to be raised enough to be suction cups, imo.

I think it looks like a tentacle with suction cups.

 

If it is a tentacle, I wonder if he'll have a fighting move where tentacles appear through rips in the Fade to tear enemies apart. That would be cool. It could just be symbolic, but I like the idea that it might not be.

I'd guess at tentacle too. It would fit with his trident. Of course a snake is obviously tevinter.

All naughty thoughts aside, the idea that Dorian could use magic related to sea creatures, or even just to water specifically, makes me unreasonably giddy. I just really like ocean themes, though.

Found this while on Tumblr. Definitely looks like our guy. And with a tentacle to boot. 

 

 

It could be part of a snake, the head being on the lower half of the card. He is tervinter after all.

But I'm inclined to let it be a tentacle, because that makes the thread much funnier.

The reason it looks like a snake, to me, is that the circles don't seem raise enough to be suction cups and the curve of the width is more rounded, less flat or concave, which I'd expect from a tentacle. The fact that it's just up there, disembodied, makes it seem more tentacle like. It's hard to say with only a portion of the card.

The art is so stylized, it's hard to judge for certain.

 

Snakacle aside, I really do love the drawing. It's so dramatic, with his face partially obscured and his mustache sweeping out like that.
