Part 2 of the E3 demo features Dorian:

Interview with Dorian's writer - David Gaider (click to show)

Website profile!

"Being from a proud bloodline of the Tevinter Imperium has its advantages: Dorian was born with a flair for magic that made him the envy of his peers. He is charming and confident, his wit as sharp as any blade, and if some suggest his manner cocky, it could be attributed to being a powerful mage in a land where mages rule. Indeed, Dorian would be the pride of his family—if he didn't oppose everything his homeland has come to stand for. He wears the labels of "pariah" and "outcast" proudly, knowing that views of the Imperium are unlikely to change until and unless someone of his ability stands up to make a difference."

He is chevalier, just look at him. He can't be mage- we have Viv and Elf.

Why would he be a chevalier? I don't recall that they're known for using tridents and swords together (or tridents for the matter). His dresses don't scream Orlesian to me. Is this about the moustache?
I recall that there in a video, where they shown a wall win concepts, there was one with a similar character that was with another person. Shame they didn't release it.
Anyway, I think he won't be a companion. Other than Gaider's words on the war room, in the leaked survey there were one character that wasn't described as a companion (scribe girl) and another that might not be one (Cullen). Moustache guy could be the same.

Chevaliers have always been shown wearing very heavy armour though, since they're basically European knights.

This is a cover image from the DA pen and paper RPG:

Moustache Guy has robes in the first pic, and whatever he's wearing in the second one, it doesn't look anything like chevalier armour.

This may be Dorian, if the survey holds true. He has a satchel of scrolls on his belt, coupled with the staff in the survey, it would point towards mage. If this were true, would it make for a well-rounded mage ensemble?

Vivienne:

  • pro-Circle
  • knee-deep in the Orlesian court

Dorian:

  • Renegade Tevinter Magister

Bald Elf Mage

  • elf, no Dalish markings as of yet
  • bald
  • mage

As for not all the characters in the War Room piece being companions, there's at least Leliana and Scribe Girl who most likely aren't combat-ready party members. The guy with the big pauldron also seems too nondescript to be a companion, perhaps just a grunt.

Yep, that one.
I mantain my opinion that he's a supporting character. Maybe a seneschal for the Inquisitor.

If true, that would be nice. If the Bald Elf Mage is an apostate or a Dalish mage, we'll have the full mage spectrum: Chantry Circle, Tevinter Magister and Apostate.

I don't know why people object the possibility of him being a mage just because we have Vivienne and possibly Bald Elf. There's no rule that states that it must be impossible to make a full mage party in a DA game. There will be 9 companions, enough for each class.

I love that "bald" gets its own bullet point.

Anyway, I'm glad someone made a thread for this guy. I've been curious about him since the survey.

Really?

Chevaliers from MOTA. Clothes are similar at him.

I really doubt he is a chevaler. We're full up on warriors. The only way I could see it is if he were some sort of non-party member military strategy adviser.

I don't see how this is distinctively Orlesian given that both Hawke and the Viscount wear similar outfits in DA2, tho.

it is. Chevaliers, served fro Prosper wore it.

Remember that title Viscont originated from Ser Michelle, First viscount of Kirkwall and chevalier?

Why not Antivan or from Rivain? Don't think there will be all that many Orlesian companions for the sake of diversity.

I agree that he is probably an Orlesian warrior in more casual attire, but I doubt he will be a companion. He will probably be your field marshall or whatever you speak to in your map room to decide the displacement of you forces.

Could be Dorian Pavus (or whatever his name is now). He fits the bill.

He could also be the bearded Grey Warden. Yes, I know he's not precisely similar, but it's only concept art.

If it's very old concept art, that's possible. I actually thought the guy to his right might have been the Grey Warden companion, given his similar outfit and color scheme. Even has the distinctive wide leather pauldron strap. Then again, the Grey Warden companion appeared in his "current" form way back in April 2012 in the Follower Customization Blog. http://blog.bioware.com/2012/04/13/dacustomization/

I don't think DHMG is a warrior, his build and outfit doesn't suggest it. Compare him to the Big Pauldron Guy to his right for example.

I just really don't know what to think of this guy.

While I've been one of the bigger "we're probably only getting two mages" voices out there, I am hoping for a third because I liked the Dorian concept better than either mage that's made the cut thus far. Is this Dorian? Maybe, maybe not. Just seems to be a face to put to the name, at this point.

There's no real reason to think he will be a companion at this point, though there's no real reason to doubt it, either. Could go either way.

I will say I'm interested in finding out more about him, whatever way it goes.

I kind of see him being Rhys, though his stance totally not reflects how I'd picture Rhys.
