For me, the end game starts with your meeting with the Asari councillor on the Citadel.

She tells you that you need to get to Thessia before its too late, to recover the data. As that mission ends your are informed of Kai Leng's location and the logical step is to go straight for it.

Then at the end of the Horizon mission, Miranda tells you she planted a tracer on him so you could follow him to Cronos Station, which also seems like a priority, resulting in the point of no return.

Therefor, in my opinion, side tracking to do DLC once you have spoken to the councillor seems out of place.

From Ashes

As it's not really a priority mission, I would either do it after Palaven and before Sur'kesh, or after curing the Genophage but before returning to the Citadel. I personally might have left him until later, but as he is a squad mate, people would probably want to start using him.

Omega

Immediately after the Cerberus coup. I know people feel like doing it this way is like revenge for the Citadel attack, but considering Oleg had nothing to do with the coup and Leng doesn't show in Omega, I don't feel the same way. However, I do feel like it needs to be done before you get much further in to the game because as the war goes on, liberating Aria's little strip club seems less of a priority.

Leviathan

I know you can leave gaps in between the mission with this DLC, but I think it makes more sense to go from one to the next as they are kind of sequential. I like to do this after Rannoch as it presents a natural break in the main story.

Citadel

Following straight after the Leviathan missions I think is most fitting, placing it right before meeting with the Asari councillor. It also make more story sense to throw the part before you see her as well, however if you want Miranda at the party, you will need to do it post-Horizon. The problem with doing it this way is why would Shep go to the Citadel and get smashed and laid with his mates when five minutes ago he was umped for following Leng to the Cerberus HQ?

That's the difficulty with trying to fit the party-and-funtimes-with-the-gang into the rest of the story. It doesn't fit, so I don't even try, I just enjoy it for what it is and say thanks Bioware.

I can understand why people leave it until after the credits.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone saved the Citadel DLC for after the ending? I keep hearing how it's one of those ''reunion'' episodes on TV shows when the cast gets back together for one last time. Obviously with the ending it doesn't make sense, but I can headcanon something easily or use MEHEM and the Citadel Mod that removes any Reaper or war references.

I haven't played Citadel DLC yet, but this seems like another possibility that might work.

This is the only way I've ever played the Citadel DLC.  It doesn't make sense from a literal standpoint, but playing it this way allows me to enjoy the end of the series, so I'll take it.

"Reunion episode". Lol. Yes. This is a great way to look at it.

I would do
From Ashes:post-Palaven
Omega:1 mission after Aria's side mission
Leviathan:Post Ardak-Yakshi mission
Citadel:After Rannoch
