Considering that clan's refusal to side with Celene, it's the dalish that has to change their stance. Though we don't know what happens after their refusal, and if Celene is willing to strike a deal now.

The fact that I can do nothing either way and still have to wait half a month is infuriating.

Now that the Dalish have finally done what I wanted them to do, and broken out of the whole "wander around and don't actually advance our knowledge" phase, there's little-to-nothing I would side against them for. So the only outcome I could find satisfying at this point in time is Celene agreeing to help them.

But Celene did try to help them. She was asking for their help, not to defeat Gaspard, but just to reach Val Royeaux, nothing else, and offered them better conditions for the city elves, free migration to the Dalish clans, and even giving the Dalish honorary lordship over the Dales. It's like the writer had read posts about the typical "Elven reasonable demands".

 

That clan's response? "You can't understand us". The humans? Pollution. The city elves? Lost forever. The Dales? Nope, especially if we have to play nice with neighbours and merchants. And then they were wondering which way of the Three Trees follow with Celene: abandon her to her doom at the hands of Gaspard, sent her directly to Gaspard as a gesture of goodwill, or just kill her.

 

No, I don't think Celene would like to repeat the negotiation.

I didn't manage to read the part about Briala, sadly. Last I saw of her in the preview, she was in Celene's side. So who knows. The story had room to change a lot.

 

But Briala helping "her people" may mean the City Elves, not the Dalish. They are already in a state of unrest. They were before, because of Orlesian nobles, but last time we saw Gaspard he had taken Halamshiral as his base of operations. Bad news

 

I'm looking forward to The Masked Empire to be released, not only to check all this information (hey, it could happen: "Oh no, those pages were just a funny play, Gaspard was just in love with the empress, the Dalish were totally playing jokes and the City Elves are greatly respected by their human overlords"), but also to stop having to use the spoiler tag every time

As for why I said Felassan is neither CE or Dalish. He has dalish tattoos but he lives in the city while basically thinking both CE and Dalish are idiots. He helps the CEs but they don't appreciate him for it. They fear him. He is a man apart.

Brialas defection annoys me. I haven't read the circumstances of it, but she is a city elf. She may have spent some time with the dalish, but she wasn't raised dalish. Her works is largely Val Royuex and she and Celene have been through a lot together. Plus, Celene seems to be working very hard to improve situation for all elves in Orlais. Anyway.

The eluvians trouble me. Along with Gaider's comments about Merrill's eluvian, I am not certain that the Dalish may not play a part in the veil tears now, where previously I didn't....

However, they may end up in the villain's hands and being used to rip the barriers of reality. Or the opposite, they may become a tool for the Inquisitor. Or even both of them. In fact, Morrigan's role in Inquisition could be related to the eluvians.

 

My Dalish Warden is probably thinking: "Damn mirrors, I should have knocked Tamlen unconscious and take him back home. Less problems for everyone".

My concern with the eluvians actually is running more towards the dalish doing it intentionally, or at least one or their clans.  Which would be interesting way to strike back, but not exactly the direction I would want them to go.  They are isolationists and everything, but they haven't previously been portrayed as the type to do that.

 

My issue with Briala is more just that unless something major happened, she in the first 5 chapters is a strong proponent of the idea of things are getting better, the small changes are working, progress is slow but it is worth it.

 

Plus, throw in the fact that Celene is her oldest friend and lover, and I just don't get her throwing in with the Dalish.

We don't know what Celene would've done later, but it was definitely a good step for making a better relationship between humans and dalish. The latter completely refused (they didn't ask for more) and planned horrible things for her.
I don't know if and why the relationship between Celene and Briala worsen, but the defection seems to happen after the events with the dalish.
