I have a sneaking suspicion of what happened with Briala, but I'm holding back my thoughts till release.
The Dales are still majority elven

That makes a lot of sense. Explains both individual acts og generosity and kindness, as well as their general cold distrust of strangers.
I don't think it will be that dramatic.
But I'm thinking about the supposed conference that was leaked in that survey, long ago. What if it wasn't a peace conference, but a conference to stop the Veil Tears? Many have assumed we'll see the Veil Tear crisis' beginning, but in DA:O the Blight had already started by the time Duncan recruited our Warden.
Spoiler
One of the reviews from Pax or some such stated that the first viel tear starts at a desperate peace conference orchestrated by the chantry when a disaster occurs--the veil tears portrayed in the videos. Prior to the conference is kind of like the origins in DAO to a degree-the tutorial section I believe.

And there goes another theory. Well, I tried.
Still wondering how come a Dalish can end up as the Inquisitor. Maybe the book will have more surprises under its sleeve.

Well that seems just silly. One would think Orlais would've been smart enough to keep the amount of Elves in the Dales to a minimum so as to avoid the chance of rebellion.

You seriously think the Chevaliers are worried about City Elves rebelling?
While not all Chevaliers are complete garbage, a fair number of them would probably welcome a CE rebellion as free practice for their fighting skills.

As a character moment that would be telling, if not necessarily accurate. It is easy to say that Freedom is won, not earned, but ultimately freedom in a political context is something that requires the consent of other parties. It's not something you can take by force of arms and keep under armed guard in a keep- freedom is only worth as much as other people respect it and abide by it. Acquiescence can only be forced so much: past that, it must be earned because it can only be given through willingness, not unilaterally taken.
I don't see how it's not "necessarily accurate", considering how historically, freedom has been won, and it's been maintained afterwards through alliances, as you've eloquently stated. However, that doesn't change the occasions where it couldn't simply be bestowed like a gift or a parcel, and instead had to be fought for.
That's... probably not going to happen. The part about Merrill being a hero among the People. Or rather, it would be significantly contrary to the crux of both the Rivalry and Friendship route, which was that Merrill was a Dalish pariah: an outcast, a dissident who opposed and was opposed to the societal norms and expectations. Merrill saw herself in terms of being a heroic figure- self-sacrificing, greater good, and all those other elements of pride. But she was just about the only one who saw her that way: everyone else, especially the Dalish, was convinced she was foolish at best and dangerously reckless at worse.
Considering the various other states that Merrill can be in (helping Meredith with the Annulment, destroying the Clan, destroying the mirror), Merrill's contributions will be marginal at best or, more likely, unrelated to the usage of the pre-existing Eluvians.
Merrill is a pariah of the Sabrae Clan, not of the Dalish community as a whole. It would be a mistake to assume all the Dalish clans are singular in their mindset. Your mistake is in assuming all the clans will share Marethari's opinion, which isn't necessarily the case, and I'd take the step further in saying it's highly unlikely to assume there would be no dissent in opinion on the matter. Merrill's efforts to restore revolutionary and advanced elven technology could be seen as the right path by some, especially given what little has been gleamed from "The Masked Empire".
I'd like it if Merrill's attempts to end the plight of the People were acknowledged, with the Dalish Inquisitor being able to express a positive or negative opinion on the matter.

Just a thought: what if the Dalish are using what Merrill learned from her mirror to attempt to awaken other dormant eluvians?

Possible. Though I guess she'd be mentioned in the book (even of not by name) in this case.

One of the devs once said helping merill with the mirror was a "bad idea"
Considering how Marethari let Audacity loose, tried to murder Merrill as an abomination, and caused such anguish in the clan (in the revelation of her death at the hands of the former First) that they attempt to murder the Champion and Merrill, I can see why Laidlaw thought it was a mistake.
I'm not sure it's reflective of the potential of the Eluvians, however. Morrigan sought power because the Eluvian in the Dragonbone Wastes could lead her to a place "beyond this world, and beyond the Fade", while the preview for the book:

Oh, was it Laidlaw, I thought it was Gaider.....Anyway, I got the impression he was referring to the dangers of the eluvians but you may be right. We know very little about them.

Its possible. It would be a good way to introduce her and explain why all of a sudden she occupies the position in Orlesian court that she does.

The pictures from way back when depict her at Court in Orlais. I believe she may even be holding a mask.
here is one.
