I agree, especially when companions start bickering between them and not just at yourself. Makes the setting livelier :P But don't be too hard on poor Cullen. There's a chance he already has his life screwed by two of our avatars.

Wonder if companions will mention different things depending on your background. For example, related to this thread, will Varric tell a Dalish Inquisitor that he met Merrill in the past?

Varric: "Did I tell you that I met this nice Dalish mage not long ago? Her name was Merrill"

Dialogue choices:

1) "Merrill? Sorry, the name doesn't sound familiar to me".

2) "Merrill? Ah, yes, the misunderstood scholar who tried to improve our knowledge of ancient elven relics".

3) "Merrill? Ah, yes, the stupid pariah who (almost) got her whole clan killed".

4) "Merrill? Ah, yes, I have it in my pokédex...  Sorry, I thought you were saying 'Marrill'"

Option 4, definitely.

Oh Creators/Maker not again...

Do not speak of the False deities within my house!

I am the Maker!

It was i who hired the Filipino contractors at the dawn of time to install the gold plating on the exterior of my palace within the fade! It was I who installed the laminate within the Golden City! It was i who hid the black mold under the drapes until those thugs tried a home invasion! It was i who cursed those home invaders with the black mo-I mean unholy taint that warped their bodies!

I am the beginning and the end!

Ok, maybe mentioning Merrill wasn't a good idea. Still, if eluvians do appear in Inquisition, it's likely that her name will be mentioned. If as a hero or a fool, who knows, and maybe it will depend on the clan.

That brings me to another question. You could wipe out two Dalish clans in previous games, but you could also let them (mostly) intact. If we end up witnessing the Gathering, would that mean we will see those clans again? Although I get the feeling there won't be anything more than a mention ("They couldn't come because they're having some problems" or "They couldn't come because they're dead").

I mean, one clan suffered a lot of losses regardless to werewolves and the other one lost all their halla.  Do you really want to invite those guys to the party?

There was a banter in Act 3 in DA2 between Merrill and Fenris, where he informer her that there are rumours of an Arlathven that will be held in Haramshiral. Nothing certain, but it was foreshadowed.

I didn't find that but i found one of my favorite lines never the less!

(During Mirror Image)

Merrill: Pol... What was he thinking? ... He acted like I was a monster...
Fenris: You are a monster.
(If Isabela is in the party)

Isabela: You aren't helping.
Fenris: Good.

I honestly think that Pol was a moron. Regardless of the fact that she was a blood mage, it was crystal clear from anyone that knew Merrill that she would never harm or kill a member of his clan: to escape from her and choose to to straight an ancient monster is simply moronic.
I think my opinion of Merrill would be in the middle between you and Lobsel, so she's not my favourite character, but I find Fenris and Anders' treatment really horrible. The fact that she's against selling Fenris, despite his treatment, speaks well for her (expecially compared to the other mage in our group).

I liked Merrill. She was intelligent, curious, had dry humor (that was often misunderstood), she was proficient with magic, she was adept with blood magic, and most importantly, she was proactive about the plight of the Elvhen. I'd like to see her contribution to restoring the Eluvian acknowledged, and I would enjoy being able to express a positive opinion about her efforts. Merrill pursued technology that could have benefited all the elves, and I respect that. I hope the Dalish Inquisitor can provide a positive opinion about this important technology she researched and studied.

I'm curious about that. I imagine not every clan comes, but I suppose their attendance could be possible. I'd certainly like to see Keeper Lanaya again.

I merely view her in a negative light due to her usage of forbidden Magics, her obsession with the past and the fact she was blatantly disregarding were her own path was leading her ultimately.

Overall? I don't mind her personality although her simple humor can get abrasive and annoying rapidly and while she isn't the most steadfast in conviction nor belief can upon occasion offer a differing perspective.

She's about like Wynne or Sten in so far i can do with or without for the entire game.

It's spelled with a 'c', not a 'k'. I thought I'd let you know since some people might assume you're deliberately trying to correlate the Dalish with a real life group in a transparent attempt to bait certain people.

I found one of my favorite lines, too! :D Here it is:

Merrill: Are you all right?

Anders: I nearly killed an innocent girl. How could I be all right?

Merrill: I'm sorry.

Anders: You're sorry? For me? This could be you! You could be the next monster threatening helpless girls!

Merrill: Anders... there's no such thing as a good spirit. There never was. All spirits are dangerous. I understood that. I'm sorry that you didn't.

Or a bit of the dry humor:

Anders: Do the Dalish ever have fancy parties?  I always imagined they celebrated most big occasions by eating mushrooms and acorns. And maybe dancing naked around a campfire.

Merrill: You know, I was wondering when the naked dancing was going to start. And the human sacrifice. I mean, you just can't throw a decent party without kidnapping a human child and offering her entrails to the sky gods.

Anders: Really?

Merrill: No. {Qunari style}

I could call them a sept, a nomadic band or a clann if you prefer?

It's as i pointed out before, if you want to use a specific titling for a fictional group feel free to do so, me? I prefer the title of "sippe" personally but folks wouldn't recognize that unless they actually bothered studying the various nomadic bands roaming around Europe centuries ago.

So i use a K in place of a C as a way of making it more distinct.

Between the usage of the 'k' and the 'master race' comments, I'm getting the feeling your retort isn't all that honest.

You're the one who keeps linking it to Godwin for the sake of humorous Hyperbole not me.

I'd be one to point out such a notion predates that particular "law"

And i'd also argue given the Dalish culture paints themselves as the last "true" remnants of their entire race/species..They would fit such a categorization.

Hey!

We found the topic again...sort of.

I forgot about the halla. Damn, if the Sabrae clan needs to breed a new flock, it's going to take ages for them to appear in a Gathering. Maybe they should use hroses? It's Inquisition time now! Everyone will get a horse! :P

Well, that's one way of looking at it. My Dalish Warden wouldn't agree so much, for logical reasons, and neither did one of my two Hawkes (who ironically ended up rivalmancing her; that was a surprise). Even more ironically, I can see a possible future Dalish Mage Inquisitor not being a fan of Merrill's work, while my future Human Mage Inquisitor would approve, for different reasons (mainly related to the fear of spirits).

I'm curious about that. I imagine not every clan comes, but I suppose their attendance could be possible. I'd certainly like to see Keeper Lanaya again.

I'm more curious about the members from the Sabrae clan that decided to stay in Ferelden because of the Dalish boon (from a Dalish Warden or because they helped Ferelden during the Blight). Mary Kirby said once that Ashalle, for example, was with them. Although according to Alistair in DA2, that didn't work too well either.

If there's an opportunity to follow up on Merrill's Eluvian project in DAI, I'm very much for that. If it can only be performed properly if Hawke friended her, even better.

It'd depend on how big the Eluvians plot would be, and how relevant it'd be to the Inquisition.
Regardless, other than the events of the book, we should consider that Morrigan is present in DAI and she has knowledge about it. I could see that her presence is related to the Eluvian plot. But i agree that Merrill's plot might have effects in DAI.
