Are we talking about that line Duncan delivers when agreeing to rescue the daughter or son? How horrible is it that as Cousland is dying on the floor Duncan says "There are worse things" blah blah blah. That has to be, hands down, the worst line of dialouge in the whole damn game. So poorly written. So absurd. It would have sounded so much better if it had been something like "I will glady save your son/daughter, but I need grey wardens. I will save him/her but will you grant me this to help save Ferelden?" something like that instead of how it was delivered which was really terrible.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad line. It gives me insight into Duncan and the Wardens. He's singleminded. And not as sensitive as he might seem at first. He cares about nothing except nonstop vigilance against the Darkspawn. The Wardens are resigned to just fighting, sacrifice, and then dying in a cesspool alone in the Deep Roads. He doesn't know how to be an actual person anymore.

edit: On a sidenote, this is why I love letting Loghain live (and then sacrificing). I hate the Grey Wardens and can't think of a better punishment for someone.

Heh, it's far from the worst line IMO. There's one by the Guardian in the Ashes arc that practically tells a City Elf PC that *they* are responsible for Shianni getting raped.

Hah; enough reason to defile the Ashes and kill the Guardian?

lol.. never knew that. Might be a good excuse for me to finally play that route. Never did it before (although I think I unlocked Reaver already through Awakenings).

If you want to be petty, vindictive and spiteful sure.

I don't really care much about the Guardian, who seems like a judgmental and somewhat bigoted robot; my only concerns about defiling the Ashes are the feelings of my own party.

Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't desecrate a woman's remains because an ancient warrior offended me.

Well, it's religious nut A vs. religious nut B to me, more or less.

So you defile a person's remains out of prejudice against a religion?...pettiness it is then.

Actually, I don't defile them, for Leliana's and Wynne's sake.

Ugh, you wouldn't believe how often I find myself in this very conundrum.

When I contemplated doing this it had more to do with the madness her remains caused. I was not certain about how intertwined her ashes were to the crazy cultists they were and perhaps that defiling them would end their madness so that if anyone else came to haven they would not be murdered simply because these ashes exist because I am not certain that this cult ends here with all these I have killed. I am not certain that there are not more cultists around that I have just not crossed paths with. That was how I viewed it. And I wondered if Andraste herself might think it a good idea to defile them under this circumstance rather than have such madness ensue and more people slaughtered because they came looking for the ashes. But there just wasn't enough for me to go on. I did promise to do it though and then did not. Funny thing, the ones that were in the temple remained calm and let me through. Kind of a brilliant strategy really. They all are calm, ashes not defiled and I need only kill their crazy leader.

Her remains didn't cause madness. The reason why Kolgrim and the rest are a bunch of lunatics is because they were drinking dragon's blood (from the High Dragon's children).

That or they like a lot of fanatics and extremists are bonkers to begin with.

The dragon's blood would explain Kolgrim's craziness well enough. On the other hand, some of the non-reavers are pretty nuts too, and it's not like Haven's reaver-archy would be really conducive to sanity. Maybe it's both?

Also, it's a remote mountain village that is inhospitable (No one knows where the Ashes are except for them after all). They are all probably closely related at this point.

I know one thing is for certain. My Warden was more than willing to run Highever and he never would have turned it over to a little boy and his "Cousland" mother. Leaving a Cousland by marriage in charge would have been a bad idea, imo.

Ditto on that. The only good thing about the attack on Highever was the fact that that Fergus was made a widower.

"In Antiva. a woman fighting in a battle would be..unthinkable." "Sister, say it isn't so, you'll bring shame on our house".

Bah! Fergus and the Couslands are better off without her. Fergus can do better.

It depends on what sort of CE you're playing, I guess. Mine got very angry, but living in the alienage teaches one that flying into a rage and killing someone over it doesn't always end well for you or your family.

Indeed, the narrative implies that being such a small, reclusive, in-bred town hidden in the mountains is why they've become so insane. Even normal people, women and children that are clearly not reavers, are shown to be not right in the head. The fact that they all keep saying something like, "We do not question tradition. It is not our way to question tradition" implies that the lack of trade, travel, or influence from outside has encouraged their kooks instead of ironing them out.
