We've seen in the trailer, Cass laying siege to a GW outpost of some sort, we can also assume we'll be having a GW companion.

So as the title says what sort of role do you think or hope the Wardens will have in Inquisition?

They're not supposed to get involved with political matters, but world-ending threats could be a different situation entirely?

Do you think the darkspawn are up to something? Depending on your choices the Architect can still be running around and of course we have Cory potentially possessing one of the Grey Wardens at the end of Legacy. Do you think this will play a role? No doubt they're still trying to wake the Old Gods without corrupting them.

Why do you think the Inquisition is attacking the Wardens? Does the Inquisition need them as allies, need something they have? Secrets they're keeping?

And this GW companion, what do you hope he'll be like?

Discuss away!

Remember that trailers don't always display what actually will go down but here is my guess:

The First Warden is trying to gain power; the hero of Ferelden disturbed the balance the Wardens held, however loose that might have been, and Ameranthine has shown that the Warden can manage a territorial responsibility. The Anderfels are in hell and the Architect has brought up new scary sides of the Darkspawn, whatever happened to himself.

I'm thinking the Wardens will play out kind of like the Dwarven power in DA:O you either have to support the First Warden through great cost or try to take him down. The reason why the Warden is with you (the big lebowski dude) is because he is a traditional man of honour who beleives in the traditional wardens; as a force against the Darkspawn and nothing more. He joins the Inqusition because they serve a better purpose and because he will not stand by while his leaders ruin his order.

I definitely have a case of hero worship when it comes to the Wardens so I reallllly hope something else was happening there.

I'm not sure. I thought the First Warden might be vying for the throne in the Anderfels, but we might not explore the region (unless it becomes available in DLC). There is something clandestine going on, as eluded to during the Qunari attack, when Stroud and the Wardens had to leave with urgency.

They're not supposed to get involved with political matters, but world-ending threats could be a different situation entirely?

I think the rumored Warden companion might leave the Grey Wardens because of their policy of neutrality. I'm not sure about his personality, however. Perhaps he may be how Alistair was originally planned, before it was changed to him being younger due to the responses they received.

Do you think the darkspawn are up to something? I'm not sure. My Surana Warden was pragmatic, and didn't trust the sentient darkspawn, so I don't know if Velanna's sister Seranni might be governing them in the wake of his death.

I suppose Corypheus might play a role, since the player was forced into letting him leave after he possessed one of the surviving Wardens. I'm not certain if he is supposed to have his powers inside Larius' body, however.

Why do you think the Inquisition is attacking the Wardens? Does the Inquisition need them as allies, need something they have? Secrets they're keeping?

I think the protagonist will attack forts if their goals don't align with the player's own objectives. I recall a templar fort in the recent Inquisition trailer, and I think it'll likely be that the Inquisitor will ally with the templars in the fort if the player is pro-templar, while the Inquisitor will attack and commander the fort if the player is pro-mage. The same could be the case for a fort under Warden command, depending on what the "secret" is, and how the player responds to the revelation.

Personally I think that the wardens might be having a schism. The reasons of this could be that the first warden is trying to gain more power or has stopped being politically neutral which obviously a lot of wardens would have problems with. Also the wardens could be split over what happened with the architect, some might might want to ally with him to stop the blights while others want him destroyed (however this only works if the architect was spared). They could also be split over the mage-templar war some wanting to side with the templars, others wanting to side with the mages (although I think this is unlikely). And of course it could be over something we have not seen yet. Seeing as warden commanders are largely interdependent it doesn't seem too unlikely that different sections of the order would act in different ways.

As for our GW companion I think its likely that he has left the order entirely (out of disgust of their current actions or by somehow breaking his oath) or (if there is a schism) has picked a side in the schism. The picture below illustrates this best I think. Of course this is purely theoretical and I'm probably wrong in some way.

Do we even know if the Grey Warden fortress getting bombarded is being bombarded by her or that the cuts just make it seem that way?

Apparently Cameron Lee confirmed that they are attacking the wardens at pax according to one of the people there.

It does appear to be accurate since I screen shoted this from the fire's above trailer, and some else in another thread took some other images of Adamant Fortress and a quest to find the Warden Clavel or something like that.

These are the ones that Terrian took from that thread belo.

This is right before the gate opens up and the people are in the warden armour, and the gate has a warden symbol.

Anyway it could be any number of thing's, Coreyphues who once influence the more powerful minds of the warden mages and was sealed away due to, then recently he appears to have possed one of the wardens so it's possible he could be involved though I think it's been going on longer than that given that blight in the Anderfells rumor and their presence in Kirkwall.

The Architect is probably a little unlikely since we can kill him, and that the devs said that the darkspawn in general are neither going to be active or pro active but be a presence and a threat lurking to use a some point in a future game which makes me think they're going to hold them back, though they haven't said anything about the old gods themselves.

It could have something to do with the old gods themselves they may be trying to harness their powers, kill them, start a blight, enact the architect plan or any number of possible scenario that could be unlikely or likely, they may have tried to study one like they did with Coreyphues and it woke up and starting influencing them fairly quickly it took him 10 years to break into thewardens minds image how quick they might do the same.

As some other people mentioned they could be having somekind of scism due to any number of scenarios, the first warden could be plotting something that our long rumoured grey warden companion is against which does make sense since he appears to be looking at his wardrn necklace with disgust, a number of other wardens could be against this.

Etc shrug right now it's kinda to early to tell what they're up to due a lack of information but the devs did say they are up to something suspicious, they appear to be getting attacked by Cassandra and at some point us, some of them could be an antagonistic force for number of reasons that we'll find out in DAI also it does say in the Game Informer cover story that we are setting our sights on them which could mean just about anything.
