Mass Effect spin-off ideas

Just a quickie thread to toss around ideas for ME spin-offs. An idea that's been kicking around in my head would be a dedicated MEU 4x game, in the vein of Galactic Civilizations, Birth of the Federation, Master of Orion. It would be a sandbox game, with the races, ships, names and characters but it would be free to ignore plot and the canon. Pick your faction, explore, expand, exploit and exterminate. There's a Sins mod, but it doesn't quite do it for me.

 

What I'd really like to see is a old school reboot of the trilogy, done as a top down classic bioware RPG. Pausable real-time combat, full parties of at least 6 characters and plot rewrites to make more sense. It. Would. Be. Glorious. Imagine fully written out dialogs, absolutely no auto-Shepard, conversations with a dozen different responses, true plot branching. Frankly I'm a bit surprised no one has made something like this as a mod for something. (well not really it would be an enormous amount of work)

 

Another idea would be a Wing Commander style game; you're a pilot on an Alliance carrier. Takes place during the Reaper war with a branching success-failure plotline like the old Wing Commanders (you could fail the game by failing missions, there was no forced success in those games).

Well, a number of the squadmates have pre-Shepard backgrounds that could lend themselves to spinoffs. If it's still going to be an action RPG with moral choices, I imagine that Garrus, Mordin, Jacob, and possibly Samara would be the easiest to write for, in that they probably saw their share of dangerous situations and could credibly pick "Paragon" or "Renegade" decisions in different situations without veering out of established character. Samara would be tricky in that all her choices would still have to adhere to the justicar code.

 

Legion's backstory of tracking Shepard and then going to the Derelict Reaper would potentially be really interesting, but I also imagine he must have only sporadically interacted with other people along the way, so I'm not sure how it would work as a game. It would probably have to be mostly stealth missions, which would reduce the amount of dialogue and choices.
