Poor? Hate sex with Morrigan. What a lucky bastard.

When the choice is "have sex or you or this other person dies" that is forced consent, which is rape. Thank you for jumping down my throat with your assumptions, though.

Both potential participants still have a choice to say no and Morrigan will honor it and leave.

Granted, the situation isn't really as easy as "have sex or die" otherwise the rational choice would be obvious (especially if it means sex with a hot woman which Morrigan is). It's more about "Die or offer the soul of an old god to the control of a morally ambigious witch with questionable motives for the child will she'll give birth to that will have the old god's soul within them."

From Alistair's perspective, he absolutely hates Morrigan so the very idea of having sex with her is about as bad as recruiting Loghain into the wardens. Granted, he'll swallow his personal problems and sleep with Morrigan if the Warden persuades him to take "a hit" to preserve their lives.

Personally, I like making Alistair do the deed. Not only because of the sexual tension between them, but the King Arthur parallels are intriguing. As Alistair is king, the OGB becoming Mordred would be delicious.

I believe Morrigan is Flemeth's biological daughter. They both have the same very distinctive golden eyes. As does Yavana.

In what world does antipathy equal "sexual tension"?   :? (Oh wait, I forgot where I was! This is Bioware fandom world and I'm not even going to address the idea that the fallout from dubious consent and unwitting incest is somehow "delicious".    )

Even though their sparring does not seem exactly amicable, the fact is that they do devote an inordinate amount of attention to each other.

I think their constant bickering is just a front, to hide what's really going on when Alistair and Morrigan are alone in the camp while the team is off somewhere detonating darkspawn.

It's obvious. He was totally checking out her nose.

Dragon Age is billed as dark fantasy, the king fathering his own usurper and slayer by unwitting incest is deliciously dark and tragic. It's almost Greek.

Well,It is definitely a guilt trip,I don't like the fact that the female warden has to coerce him after having a chat with Morrigan behind his back,it feels a bit manipulative to me for some reason, even if the warden means no harm and probably does it to save their lives(something they're not sure will happen anyway, because the chances of  one of them dying before reaching the archdemon are high.)

I'd prefer it, if Morrigan informed them about the ritual, when both the female warden and Alistair were present,so that he can form his own opinion after all it's his decision.(But then it wouldn't work plot wise, since the game is more about your decisions and how they affect the rest of the world. :P )

Alistair is a t*t of a character, I felt bad for Morrigan, at least she could blow out the lights for that one.

It never struck me as strange before this playthrough.  What are your thoughts.  I never visited his tent so this could be ackward.

Well, how would you feel if you were asked by a friend to have sex with someone you hate, someone who sneers at and mocks you at every turn, in the belief that doing so will help your friend?

I might feel emotionally manipulated, to start with.

It's not just sex.  It's a magical ritual.  Neither Alistair OR Loghain wants magic getting anywhere near their tender bits.  Blood magic in fact.  In case you haven't been paying attention, magic is viewed as 'bad' in Thedas, regardless of what you, the player thinks about blood magic or magic in general, Alistair (like the vast majority in this world) view magic as something to be feared/hated. Morrigan's beauty means absolutely squat to Alistair.  This is a man who believes a sexual experience (in all likelihood his first) is something to be shared and treasured by two people who care for each other.  He's not a man wh*re who chases after anything in a skirt.

That's not sexual tension, it's mutual loathing.  It's patently obvious.  And the incest thing--ain't happening considering the sh*tstorm the whole Bethany/Carver + Player Hawke shipping from some of the odder fanbase caused.  Bioware isn't going to do something like that.

I'm sure he enjoyed it on some level, otherwise it wouldn't be "possible". I felt worse for my warden.

Man I half wish Alistair had been female and Morrigan male. It would've been a ewww consent issue. Especially if you pretty much strongarm her into it with the "if you loved me you'd do this".

Yeah it'd make me feel icky either way but great now I'm thinking of a male morrigan LI and how much I would've wanted the option to drop kick him into an active volcano. >_>

Isn't it funny how gender swapping can teach a lesson here?

Pimping Morrigan out was the most awkward conversation in that game. Entirely inappropriate. Bad, Bioware! Bad!

She wasn't pimped out, she benefits from this ritual by getting pregnant with the OGB. This was all Flemeths doing, she taught her the ritual, and I'm sure Flemeth had plans to take over Morrigans body as soon as possible after the final battle.

This is a lot like the red witch and Stannis Baratheon in GOT. It benefited them both. Alistair or his LI did not die.

I think you meant pimping Alistair out.

if you go by the energy of the person, Morriagn is much stronger and far more masculine while Alistair actually leans toward being more femine energy wise and choosing to be very submissive, gentle, even emotionally fragile at times, sweet, etc... Energy wise it is very much masculine dominating feminine energy. I'm not saying this as an attack on either character, but simply stating that the nature of their energies do make if masculine forcing feminine to submit. Alistair's energy is more feminine (not saying that he is feminine but his nature leans more toward the feminine aspects of caring, nurturing at times, being more willing than argumentative on whole, more submissive and willing to follow rather than leading more forcefully). Morrigan is far more masculine in her energy. If her character and voice were replaced by a Male's most of her lines would work perfectly. Same is true for Alistair for the most part. Where if you look at Zevran, Leliana, and Oghren, you could never exchange them for the opposite sex and have it work well because they play to the aspects of their gender. But Morrigan and Alistair are unique in this way. Could be swapped and it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

And on this point, it still does make it ewww except it is not as overt as it would have been had their gender been different, but I think this is why the dark ritual really does leave a bad taste in most people's mouths. Because of the character's energy it feels even more wrong. The ritual itself is offputting. If you feel distrust toward Morrigan it is even more offputting. Add in Alistair's energy being more toward the feminine and it really does feel like you are pimping him out. The whole thing is pretty nasty quite frankly. That they had to make it a sex ritual just shows true lack of creativity because in a world with so much magic surely they could have created some other sort of ritual that would have given her a baby and been less obviously disturbing. It would have worked even better except it was designed this way to disturb us for the reasons it did. Sex magic and manipulating someone into having sex with someone he doesn't like and just had sex for the first time or is still a virgin if you didn't romance him. Very much eww.

What upsets me is that neither Alistair, nor Morrigan were really ready to undergo such ritual.

They don't look like it, but they're both young people, who are still having some of their first love experiences.

Alistair is a virgin when you meet him, by his own admission. And Morrigan tells her mother she is not ready for what she must accomplish (the Dark Ritual),to which her mother replies they need her (or else, the Wardens will die after they kill the Archdemon, since she wasn't just referring to her daughter's magic skills). And since the witch never met anyone outside the Wilds long enough to have intercourse, she's also a virgin.

It's very likely that, depending on your gameplay, Alistair and Morrigan actually lose their virginity with one another (probably without being aware of it).
