So with reports of pirated versions coming up I started to think, how? How does ME2 get pirated? In my mind the data for the game is locked away in Bioware's offices. So how do the pirates get their hands on it? Is it someone inside the company? Perhaps their bribing store owners to let them buy it early?

The game has been in stores since Tuesday but they're not allowed to sell it until next Tuesday. Smaller stores will sell early or maybe employees take it home with them and then it ends up on the internet.

There are several people who have legit copies of the game right now. Reviewers, game store employees, people who just get it shipped to them early.

Amazon once sent me a game two weeks before the ship date along with a book I'd ordered.

Well something similar happened with a beta build of Return to Ostagar. Sometimes in order for versions of a game being developed need to be transferred from one department to another, developers store the game on a locked online server. Occasionally, people can manage to infiltrate the server and extract the build and leak it. In the case of ME 2, since several advanced copies of the game were released by BioWare for some early game reviewers to play and review, maybe some of these advanced copies were able to be leaked to the net. You know that ME 2 by now is done and it is all distribution now, getting massive copies produced and shipped worldwide. In this stage the game is vulnerable to leaks if someone acquires a copy from the shipments ahead of time or leaked an advanced copy. So any of those ways are possible and inevitable to occur. That said, I am PC user and I already ordered my CE so I am just going to wait and get my pre-ordered copy normally.

Leaks will happen no matter what. There's pretty much no stopping it.

But it's up to you, as a fan of Bioware, to support and to respect the incredible games they make. If people want to see even more from Bioware in the future, nothing speaks louder than millions of people purchasing their games. Honestly, they are one of the few game developers that I happily pre-order games from without a second thought.

Personally, I'm waiting until next Tuesday for my purchased copy. If anything is worth the wait, it's a Bioware game.

Besides, I want to play with all the day one DLC. :)

unfortuatly it is possible, considering that both the xbox360 and PC version have leaked.

I wonder how many pirates would be so desperate or diligent as to tie up their bandwidth for possibly days on end to grab all 17 Gigs of Mass Effect 2.

Never underestimate the desperate, of course.

Sorry, we try to discourage discussion of software piracy in our community. Thank you.

End of line.
