I prefer Solid Snake as a character but at the end of the I only enjoyed the first Metal Gear Solid. I find not like MGS2 at all ( technically not really a Solid Snake game ) and I was not happy with the the frail old man Solid Snake of MGS4. All the Solid Snake games have convoluted plots and dominated with never ending talk about genetics and gene therapy.

Given that it's the theme of the first game then I see no reason to why it's a problem -- Metal Gear Solid 1 deals with genetics and the moral implications of genetic engineering, Sons of Liberty revolves around the idea of how much a person can be defined through the flow of information, and how ones identity can be affected by the philosophies of one's society (a 'meme') and the effects of censorship on society, Snake Eater deals with how the time and place one lives in (a 'scene') affects their identity and how politics change along with the times. etc.

You can skip it, it's like the prologue in MGS 2 and MGS 3

If you've played Peace Walker and watched the Ground Zeroes trailer, then you already know what's going to happen.

Peace Walker was fine -- Storywise and character wise it was weak, mostly due to the PSP's old hardware.

I disagree. The MSF crew became endearing over the course of the game. I loved Big Boss's slow development into the Outer Haven leader we all know and love, along with "The Boss". Coldman was also a cool, hammy villain. I thoroughly enjoyed the first ending. ]

Though, there were a few silly twists and it doesn't quite fill up the shadow that Snake Eater made.

MGS3 > MGS4 > MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS PW > MG2, all at least 7.8 games. Great series, one of my favorites for sure.

Ground Zeroes is a $20 taste for me. Is it worth it? Probably not, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it for a few days anyway and I will again a few times before MGSV releases.

I buy like ~4 new games a year so I don't feel bad about missing about $5-10 worth of content apropos to how much I spent here.

The guys at my local Gamestop are telling everyone who buys this title to trade it in a.s.a.p. once you beat it so that they can get most of there money back. I must say that is a very interesting sales pitch.

They can use it as credit towards Phantom Pain, in that case.

I think MGS3:subsistence is the best game in the series. Then Metal Gear Solid 4, then MGS1, then Peace Walker, then MGS2.

I mean all of those games are great, even MGS2 is a Great game. The series as never had even a good game, they've all been great to amazing.

Well, I haven't played the game but $30 seems like an awful lot for less than two hours of content.

Yeah I agree the price tag is unacceptable... But I am certainly excited for the Phantom Pain since I sunk six hours into the game... I still need to do the Xbox Exclusive mission. I agree with Angry Joe for the most part except for the score and the story... Yeah if you storm through the main mission you won't get much especially if you have not play Peacewalker. But if you discover all of Chico's Cassette tapes you'll get the idea on what happen to the Prisoners during their time in Camp Omega and some back story on Skull Face... Once the game gets down to 10 or 5 dollars... I would recommend it to anyone.  Personally I'll be okay with paying 15 dollars for Ground Zeroes at the most.   Like Joe said superb game, not worth 30 dollars. I hope the backlash is bad enough that Kojima and Konami won't do this ever again even when we were in a Metal Gear drought.

Oh I strongly agree, even for a Konami cash grab it should've been $10 - $15

Kojima wanted it to be part of Phantom Pain

I just hope Kojima won't do another Metal Gear again. He didn't even have any interest in doing 4, until fans threatened him to do it. Perhaps that's why I thought the innovation in the game and its uninspired mess of a plot didn't live up to previous games. Metal Gear seriously needs an end before Kojima retcons it further beyond recognition. The story of Snake is over and the best narrative know when to end, and won't need countless prequels to pad it out so thin, you could spread it on a croissant. Unless a future game will involve The Boss then move on - Bring back Policenauts, Snatcher or a new IP - The Industry could do good with new ideas.

He wants to end the series after Phantom Pain because he wants to focus on other projects

I've always viewed the the prequels as showing the transition of Naked Snake to the man known as Big Boss personally

He wanted to end it with Sons of Liberty & Snake Eater, then got threatened when the latter was finished, so he made Guns of the Patriots. After that, for some reason, he had to pad it out further with unecessary new entries into franchise, effectively retconning previous established plot points. Snake Eater was enough to explain, what led to Big Boss downfall and most importantly, adding answers to a few questions from Sons of Liberty. Ending it with Guns of the Patriots, could at least ended it all on an okay note.

I'm quite accustomed to inciting shock when people see me putting 4 ahead of 1, but PW is pretty niche; I know you're a big fan of it and I know it's popular back home in Japan but as far as Western mass reception is concerned I've only ever really seen that one IGN editor and small enclaves of fans cite it near the top.

And yeah, Kojima even recently said it's a long-running joke at the office that everyone calls him Miyazaki because like Miyazaki he keeps saying the next project will be his last and it never winds up being the case.

Immediately after saying that he went on to reinforce that MGSV is his last. Lmao.

Technically, it's his second Metal Gear game, as he played Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance before this one. I don't know why he didn't pick up the MGS HD Collection, it's on 360.

It's not going to end, as stupid fans will demand another title that will just create an even bigger mess and Kojima fumbles with ideas on what to use because he no longer has any clue where to take the series. This was proven with MGS4 and on, when the series started to fall apart.
