I can give the DA team a good reason why not to include more traditional vampires: It's been overdone to death.
Unlike some of the other creatures in Thedas' mythos, there is no prescient for a thinking vampire. Instead of asking the DA team to shoehorn vampires, perhaps we can ask them to explore other creatures in Thedas' legends.
I don't think it's "unrealistic" to include vampires in Thedas, I simply think it isn't needed. I suspect the closest we'll ever get is beings like hunger abominations, Corypheus and the Architect. They aren't vampires true (although the Tect was using Grey Warden blood, though not to stay alive,) but I highly doubt the DA team is going to get any closer than that.
Were they going to include vampires, then it's probably something they've already discussed at length. I'm betting "vampire" came up in conversation the first time they started exploring what they wanted to do with demons. They might have room for vampires, given the size of DA:I. However, I wouldn't hold your breath even then. I doubt we'll see a more Bram Stoker or Anne Rice style vampire in the DA games. Maybe in the EU, but even then I don't think so.
@Emissary: Stop it right there. I know about Rednex. Don't get that song stuck in my head! Otherwise, I'll make you listen to "Pop in an Oak," which was Rednex's follow up to Cotton Eye Joe.

I'm going to quote my husband here:
"That isn't a vampire. That sounds more like a member of the Dark Fairy Court." He wasn't making any sort of gay joke either; we both agreed that it sounded like one of the prettier demi-fey of the Unseelie Court. Demi-fey look like Tinkerbell, complete with wings and a sparkle, but drink the blood of the living and are nocturnal. Oh and not exactly nice either. ![]()
edit: Then again, neither was Tinkerbell. She tried to kill Wendy a few times in the original Peter Pan story out of jealousy.
So that would be neat, if we switched the word "vampire" with "fae/fairy folk."

Vampires are overrated. There are other undead creatures they can use for the Dragon Age universe.
Yeah, I've always been more of a zombie guy.

I'm teasing you a little, but I think they are just as overdone as vampires by now. If not more so, with the trend over the last decade.

If you are a fan of the dragon age series then you want the series to keep going on and saying that vampires shouldn't be added because there are too much creatures already to begin with is absurd like it or not every new game will bring new creatures/adversaries and I know bioware could turn the skeptics into believers if they decide to bring vampires into the mix.
There is no need to bring in vampires in order to expand the series. Vampires are overdone. It doesn't matter if vampires aren't identical to the ones in Twilight they are still overdone in today's media no matter how they are implemented.

It's actually a hot topic in my household. My older brother prefers vampires, but I think zombies are far superior, and would win in any potential conflict.
With all their neck-biting, the vampires would even infect themselves, the fools.

I've always wondered why vampires have still not made it into the dragon age universe. I know vampires have been polarizing figures in recent years and many people probably have vampire fatigue because of their overexposure in the mainstream media but I would love to see what the bioware team would be able to do with them I feel bioware would do vampires better than the elder scrolls games. agree? disagree? LMK
They have. Corpses possessed by hunger demons are vampires or zombies. Desire demons are succubi. Halla are unicorns.
Vampires in themselves retain their consciousness from life. They aren't possessed. They are fully in themselves, in a cognitive mind, and eating people of their own choice.
Because vampires are real creatures instead of make believe... oh wait, no.
Because the original concept of vampires was of creatures that retained their conscious... oh wait, no again.
Because you have a type of vampire you like and are pretending that it's the 'real' kind. Ding! We have a winner.

Dragon age lead writer david gaider is a huge fan of buffy the vampire slayer in that series vampires were demon possessed humans and in the codex it is mentioned that a hunger demon does something similar and they become vampires so obviously they might exist already but havent been introduced yet but if they are heres hoping they look like angel in the pic below haha

If you read my original post which started this discussion I brought up how most people might be against vampires because of vampire fatigue/overexposure in the media I dont think thats a valid reason not to include vampires in a future dragon age game if bioware feels they can pull it off then by all means I believe they should sure some people might say theyre not needed but I for one see no harm in adding them to the mix some time down the road.

It was said originally that they are possessed by demons, but through further seasons, it didn't appear to be like that anymore, probably because they introduced actual demons and some of them were good. It ended with the idea that vampires simply loose their souls (which apparently means here feelings like compassion, empathy, etc. - to complicate things, some species of demons had souls while other didn't) and them being 'demons' not in literal sense.

I wanted to point out that the idea of dead returning from grave to terrorize the living is known probably everywhere. Vampires are from Eastern Europe, while Western Europe had revenants. Similar creatures appear in folklore of other parts of the Earth.
Undead in DA universe have very little to do with this idea, as they are basically zombies.

Vampires in buffy were the lowest level of demon when someone got bit they died and in the place of their soul a demon would take its place which is basically whats mentioned in the dragon age codex about hunger demons taking a corpse and essentially becoming a vampire or vampire like being
