Unity is the seventh installment in the AC franchise and is set during the French Revolution and follows protagonist Arno Dorian rise within the Assassin order and his struggle to unravel the true powers behind the revolution.

The game retains its third-person open world exploration along with its stealth system and combat system being rebuilt and improved. The game also features a cooperative multiplayer mechanic that allows up to four players play narrative story driven missions.

FINALLY!

An AC game set in France, and during the French Revolution of all things. I admit though that I previously had hoped AC4 to be set during the French Revolution and then AC5 during Ancient Japan. Still, very excited for this installment!

EDIT: just finished the article. There will not be one but TWO AC games this year!? LOL. and I who assumed they would cut to 2 years releases when Ubisoft went next gen :P

I'm intrigued by the 'parkour up' and the 'parkour down' buttons. France could be an interesting setting but so far I'm not wowed by the idea. To be honest I had pretty much given up on the Assassins creed series after AC2, the only reason why I went out and bought AC4 because it was set in the Caribbean where I was born and grew up and I am bit homesick for the sun and the sea. I love AC4 but I must admit that I have most fun with that game when I'm sailing on the sea, running from tree branch to tree branch or bush to bush or exploring barren tropical locations, it's when the game goes into built up areas like Kingston, Havana and Nasau that the AC formula begins to feel a bit stale and repetitive. I hope there is more to the new AC game then just exploring Paris or other French cities because I think this series works best without the man made structures and obstacles and could flourish more with more natural environments.

Edit: misspelled the word obstacles. On one hand I love typing on the ipad because it auto corrects words that I misspell, on the other hand it sometimes changes the words that I do type into gibberish.

Should have been Victorian London, though the above poster does have a point.

Also should have had a main series female lead by now.

Eh, I was kind of hoping for Egypt.

Oh well.

Or Greece. Anything ancient.

Yeah they should have done Imperial ROME at some point, not 16th century Rome. Now they can't go back there.

Alternatively, Hellenic Alexandria may also have been a good choice. Hell, maybe even Ancient Babylon with climbable hanging gardens and everything! But another 18th century game, really? We've already had one game set during a revolution, and frankly compared to the countless options ubisoft had, the French Revolution is fairly dull.

I agree. A woman assassin during the French Revolution would have some interesting possibilities.

They should do china if they are looking to cover any sort of ancient territory.

I'd be down for assassinating Cao Cao.

Ubi isn't going to abandon their entire dude-bro fan base by putting a woman in charge.

Well, they did release Liberation. Hope for a female protagonist for the main games is not totally unwarranted.

Anyway, I was hoping for some Ancient setting as well.

If they're concerned or wary about including a female PC in a mainline game, maybe they can try out a Dual POV for the game and just switch between two main characters.

Aww, they should've chosen feudal Japan. That would've been cool.

If we go back to parkour instead of wilderness/water I might be interested. I know I'm in the minority here but I absolutely loathed the ship aspects of AC3 and didn't get AC4 specifically because of all the ship-related stuff.

Yup, I'm with you.

I'm mildly interested to see where AC goes since I've basically skipped AC3 and AC4 because I really didn't like what I saw and this leak shows promise they're going back what made the Ezio arc so successful.

I'm pretty sure Ezio was what made the Ezio arc successful.

The whole release schedule around this series just feels excessive at this point.

Despite what Ubisoft claims, I don't believe anybody can release games in a series this often while still keeping all of the releases fresh and without deviating from what makes the game great.

AC 4 already broke that for me. It was fresh and the game itself was very enjoyable, but it didn't really feel like an Assassin's Creed game.

I suppose that's the difference between me and many other people. I think it felt very much like an Assassin's Creed game, basically because it is a continuation of the Assassin's Creed story. Also the gameplay was still the same old thing, excluding the naval part.

If they ever go Japan, it should be Boshin War/ Meiji restoration era, not feudal Japan.

^In one of the recoverable files in AC4, it says that Ezio went to Japan (I think it's Japan, but it's definitely an Asiatic country) in his later years. Perhaps there's a possibility he has a cameo if we get a game set in that time period.

I loved AC4, contrary to what I was expecting beforehand. Good fun.

I'm excited for the series in general but I felt that one game released every year was excessive, let alone two.

I hated the ship parts of AC3 (well I hated AC3 full stop) but I love the ship parts in AC4, I don't understand why.
