Let's not over-generalize. I'm playing it right now (just five minutes ago) and while the IQ is terrible because I have to have things down so low (i.e. terrible optimization), I'm having no issues otherwise.
When the technical details are ironed out this will genuinely be a very good game.
I'd say that's a pretty good reason not to buy Ubisoft games on PC. Most of them suffer from poor optimization.
I had so many bugs with AC:III on PC that I was glad I couldn't run Black Flag on it and had to buy it for PS3. But I never got to experience the bug where the ocean collapses and everything flies away while Edward is hurtled into the abyss. Swings and roundabouts, mates.
Also having greater luck with windows now, thanks EntropicAngel. Although Arno still decides sometimes "Nope, don't like this window, I shall instead twerk on the window sill."
And I've now done two co-op missions, the 4 player Food Chain and the 2 player Heads Will Roll. Both with randoms and I'd say 4 player is going to be quite a lot of fun, because even if it's not a very good team, there are enough of you to co-ordinate without having to actually communicate. Unless you run off on your own and try to lone wolf there's someone to help if you get into a fight you can't handle on your own, or take out guard 2 because they can see you're ready to take out guard 1, etc.
2 player is not going to be fun with randoms. It probably took me close to an hour to finish that co-op because we kept getting taken down by snipers. Simply put, you need someone who is going to cover you and do things at the same time, i.e. kill the sniper with the perfect view of the guy you are poised to kill. Not fun, need friends.

Need ppl for co-op. Kind of tough doing 4 player missions dolo. Can't seem to find random players though.
What the hell? ![]()
^When you're so drunk you break the laws of physics.
I'm basically at the very end of the main missions, or close. I think I'll finish tonight.

Unpopular opinion looking at Arno's somewhat mixed reception: am I the only one who thought Connor was actually one of the better characters in the series? Yes?

I didn't like Connor as a protagonist much, mostly because his constant naivete irritated me a bit, but I can acknowledge the fact that he was a fairly good, flawed character. When you think about it, he probably had by far the hardest time of any of the pro-tags so far - and in the end, he got sh** all to show for it and got pretty much screwed over. Pretty sad, really.
I think he would have gone off on a much better note if they'd included this retrospective in-game, though. I'd respect the guy much more after that.

No, I liked Connor. I felt he was the Merrill of the AC universe.
Both of them struggle with the culture clash of interacting with people that don't share their values (and in some cases are the opposite of them), and they have a hard time dealing with it. Unlike Merrill, Connor has a harder time dealing with this, and because of it he's a very interesting character.
Unfortunately, it seems people don't pick up on why Connor believes what he does, and consider him an idiot for it.

Bloody hell I never heard that. Why would they remove that? That alone would have made Connor and the ending so much better. ![]()
As it is, the game pretty much ended with Haytham getting the last word in. Connor flipping him the finger despite that would have been amazing.

This sends a strong message to developers that they can release unfinished games and people will still buy them. These same people then go online and complain about the state of the game industry. Gamers deserve at least half the blame for it.
Beat Unity.

Connor was a great character for sure and I found his youthful idealistic outlook on the world and the conflict to be interesting to follow and how it was challenged by other individuals in the story, followed by how it ultimately shaped his viewpoints in the end. He was certainly pro-active during the War and in his efforts, and having great characters around him helped shape him as a character who progressively develops throughout the story (which is important in any medium I find). I enjoyed Connor in AC3 and is a protagonist I view highly.
I can understand the hate for him, but a lot of it is undeserved and calling him a "bad character" is way out of proportion.

Story wise, I enjoyed it. Not as much as say the Ezio trilogy, but I had fun. I felt like the game could've done more to get emotional, and could've paced itself a bit better with its assassination missions, but it wasn't bad. And like I said,
Gameplay was interesting. You can't just go and fight every guard you please as now it is far more dangerous to do so. Back in the other games, you could take on tons of guards at a time and counter kill your way to victory, but this time trying it is far more difficult, and properly using stealth is far more important. I like that it pushed me to do so. It was also refreshing to not have to manage a ship and sail the seas;being landlocked was great.
There's more I could say, but right now I'm getting in my Inquisition mood, hahaha
I do agree that it's the unpopular opinion but for me Connor was an interesting and good character (although I've liked all the protagonists so far to varying degrees). He was actually one of the high points of AC III for me. I suppose it was the clash of going from a very charismatic character to a very straight-laced character. I liked the variety, but it seems most didn't.

Beat it. Arno is pretty cool. While not the greatest or even the most original protagonist I liked him enough to want to see
Intriguing, didn't expect that to be an aspect to be explored in the game. Well will have to wait, going to get Black Flag first and wait for a price drop regarding Unity.Beat it. Arno is pretty cool. While not the greatest or even the most original protagonist I liked him enough to want to see

One thing I am disliking about Unity is that the companion app seems to be more of a requirement to unlock all the gear and collectables in the game. With Black Flag the app was good for doing something while you were away from the game yet it could all be done in-game, but I keep finding chests which I can't open because I don't have a device capable of using the app this time round. And Altair's outfit is only available if you play the companion app. That's nonsense.

I dislike this as well. I don't want AC Initiates and companion app stuff so heavily integrated in the game with chests and unlocks. Its unnecessary.

This kind of **** truly boggles my mind.
