So, as most of you know, IHJ has been working hard last year to creast some videos with UDK, showing a final battle of the allied fleets with Harbinger.

He has made all the videos and coordinated all the voices, sound, etc, etc.

 

You can see the initial part of the video here:

 

My job was to do some final editing, sound implementation and most importantly to put all of this into the game.

What's special about it from a sequencing point of view is that it checks your war assets and shows them if appropriate.

Note: These videos are slightly older versions with a few issues which have been fixed in the latest test version (see below).

 

Ok, so now I am just going to copy/paste what I wrote before about the first testing version of this in game:

Installation: Make Backups before you do anything!!!

You know the drill. Just dump the files into the respective DLCs with DLC Editor. I provided a TOC.bin for a standard MEHEM v0.4 install for the EC, so no need to run the DLC TOC.bin updater. Leviathan does not need  to update the TOC.bin either.
(On a side note, I actually had quite a bit of trouble with the DLC TOC.bin updater. It frequently screwed up my game, so I recommend not using it if you can avoid it.)

EDIT: Disregard the last part in the parenthsis. This was probably due to an issue in the file itself. :blush: :whistle:

Don't forget to copy the new movies into the main game movies folder. After doing this you will need to run the TOC.bin updater for the main game. I would have provided a TOC.bin file but my game is so extensively modded at this point that my own TOC.bin is a mess.


A few comments:
On my machine, I it works just fine but I need you guys to do some extensive testing on this, preferably with different saves, with various combinations of war assets. Thing is, it would be good if you have different saves where you actually played it in a way so that you have/don't have the various war assets, don't just Gibbed saves (because I am not 100% sure that all the variables are correct).
Turns out, I had to do major reqrite on the 500Choice.pcc, basically creating an entire sequence from scratch (that's why it took so long). This has two negative concequences: 1. For now, this will not work with JohnP's additional LI mod (until we adapt it) and 2. the potential for bugs is high.

When you doenload the file, you'll also see why I do not want to just include this into the base version of MEHEM. It would basically doubl the size of the mod yet again. So I think it's better to have two downloads.

Also, this is not final yet (see todo list below) but it's ready for testing.

And here are a few more notes:

Notes:

- Changing war assets in Gibbet won't do anything, you need to change the plot variables that lead to the war assets
- The war asset videos currently freeze for a fraction of a second on the last frame (probably while the game is loading the next bink). Please let me know if this happens for you guys as well or if it's just my rig. If this is the case for everyone, I will change the videos, so that the freeze happens during a black screen. It will still not be entirely smooth but I think it'll be less jarring as it is now (see todo list).
- Didn't have time to do Julia's OST yet, will do it tonight
- Sound: I think the music should be a bit louder for the second track (the one that plays right after "Stand strong, stand together") and for the last track (the sad one). What do you think? I also have to check some sounds during shots where we see explosions on the inside of ships, it seems they don't play correctly. @IHJ: I didn't actually use the new lines you sent me. The recordings of these new ones sound like they have a radio effect to them but they shouldn't have. Also, the old lines were fine for the most part and it always sounds weird if you mix lines from two different recording sessions since they will always sound somewhat different.
@cfs3corsair: I used your new new sound file for the occuli shootout but it still didn't quite fit. Then, I adapted the timing on my end and it sounded ok in the video editor but when I converted it to bink it was off again. I'll have to check what happened there tonight and I'll try to fix it before it goes final.
- Didn't have time to do the credits yet. Should be straight forward though.

I think that's it from my end. Let me know if you spot any other issues and again, sorry this took so long IHJ.

To Do List:
- Change videos so that frame freezes occur during black screen
- Check and adapt some sound issues (timing of occuli and some internal shots)
- adapt Julia's OST
- adapt for JohnP's additional LI mod
- increase music volume on some tracks (especially track 2 and 4)?
- implement extended credits

So yea, forgot to mention. The entirety of Harby happens basically right after Shepard falls unconcious. The Citadel arms will open all the way, then Harby's demise happens and afterward, MEHEM continues as usual.

 

Also, here is a list of all the war assets that are checked (and produce different videos accordingly):

- Destiny Ascension saved?

- Elcor recruited?

- Hanar recruited?

- Batarians recruited?

- Volus recruited?

- Rachni recruited (and didn't betray you, i.e., you saved the queen in ME1 and ME3)

- Geth alive?

- Quarians alive?

- Did all three side quests for Aria?

 

But as I said, I am not sure if I really got all the variable checks right.

About voices: ok :)

 

I have seen two things on the uploaded videos, not sure if are fixed.

 

-One of the Salarian lines (related to holograms, made by CommandBenX) is missing. It was a file that replaced the original salarian scene's sound. I send it to you long after the original files.

-The quick image on video 3 in 1.19 shows Joker.  Its less than half second.I have the corrected file for that if you want it. My fault, it was this way on the version I sent you.

 

About the toc.bin: Ok!

So, it's been awhile since I checked the progress on this. You guys have made some great improvements!

 

No offense to the VA's, but I still think the acting from the two Asari is cringeworthy and hurts the video as a whole.  I don't say this to be mean, I only want this to be successful, and I'm certain you'll get this criticism upon release - probably from people much less diplomatic than I. I think that scene really needs a re-take (or cut, if they can't redo it).

Yea, I do agree wavion. We will most certainly hear something about the VAs. That is to be expected. People are pretty unforgiving when it comes to this sort of thing. However, it's all up to IHJ as it is his project and I do understand that he wants to keep his people. Personally, i am ok with it, I am just saying that this criticism will come and is something that we should expect (and not take personally).
After all, the entire scene when we all start calling in as captains of our own ships is quite goofy (don't say anything, I know very well that I was the one who started with it :) ) but I think it's just something where we can say that we just had a bit of fun there.

As for the technical side: That damn random crash is a tough one to crack and I am still working on it (probably again this weekend). This problem is really hard to crack because I can't even run the debugger that I made with VW's dll injector (it requires the file load first but this one crashes as it loads).

I am suspecting that it has to do with some of the objects I have overwritten to create the new sequence (which is more than 100 objects in total). So then I tried to use cloned objects instead, so that I don't have to overwrite anything but that also crashes the file. In a worst case scenario, I will have to trial&error out which objects I can overwrite without causing the crash (which is further complicated by the fact that the crash doesn't always happen). For so many objects this may take a long time and I hope that I can come up with another solution.

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be very welcome.

Hey, here's a crazy idea, since you've got all of those conditional scenes now, I'd love an appearance by a surviving Conrad Verner - not flying of course, just tagging along, acting like he's there to save the day, recycling some earlier line.

No suggestions but I was wrong, this Harby mod is more than 100 times complicated than my mod; literally!

 

I gotta watch the videos again. I know IHJ is ready for crap from people so that's good. The bottom line is this, he had no idea how his videos would ever work with the game so I'm happy he's going to get his goal realized soon.

 

EDIT: Alright, watched it again. Sure, the VAs will get mercilessly persecuted I suppose but I think there's going to be some people who are going to enjoy this quite a bit. I have to say, it got my attention just before and during the explosion at the end. I liked that part quite a bit. As long as a certain individual isn't around to make comments IHJ will be fine. I'm withholding names since I think this is publicly view able.  :)

Well, I'm expecting to be aimed and fired at will. That's why I die in the video, to say: "I gave my life. I'm dead. Sorry if you don't like it" xDDD

Just joking, I know that the people usually don't like improvements, and specially VA when is amateur.

I'm not afraid about backslash. Bioware had it, and I only though it was deserved when they insisted in their "art". Before, it could've been rushed, lack of money, or just a mistake. For me, the main error when you receive criticism, is to be arrogant. You know: "is nothing you can't comprehend. So I rock and you suck. Deal with it".

 

About VA, I know that some voices are not pretty good. Behind that, there are some conflicts. Even ethic, for me.

 

All the VA's are volunteers, and the most part volunteered when the video was only at the first 4 alphas. I mean, is people who didn't liked the ending, and with only the idea of helping to change it, they dedicated their time to give a hand, watch it, make suggestions...

 

The other part were people who liked the project and kindly helped :)

 

You know, most jumped in when we had no idea if it was going to be playable, because they believed that it was possible. Mainly, because my animation skills, to be fair.

 

So, as I know some of the voices would be better done if another one does them, I'll feel very bad replacing them by other VA's. As I stated some time ago, the Asari pilot is my GF, so... yikes. "I know, but..." =(

 

I understand the criticism and I think that has a very strong point. We spanish don't usually speak a good english, and I suppose that as we hear it and sounds good, it doesn't for the most part of the people.

 

That's why I'm ready to take all the direct hits when is aired...

 

I hope this explains my position about it. ^^U

Wow, thats bad. If you don't have another solution, and you think is going to take you a very, very long time, please give me some instructions of how to make the test & error of the objects with the tool and I'll start to work in paralell to you until we find the problem.

 

I can start from the end while you test from the beginning, if you wish.

IHJ, your position doesn't need clarification. I know why you did it.  :) Besides, can you imagine me, Mr. Monolingual, speaking Spanish? Yikes!

Turns out I keep finding little things to tweak but if I can get CEM done I will give the MEHEM to CEM transition a shot (once I learn how to move an object around.)

Hey, this was a fan project by some very dedicated people! Some parts may be a tad rough around the edges, but I am very impressed with how much work has gone into this and how well it has been made overall. I mean, I put in countless hours on sound fx and tracks, and I know that isn't even a fraction of what IHJ has put in, so two thumbs up man!

"Certain Individual"? Boy you make me laugh. I think those of us who have been around for the past while will all know exactly who you mean.

 

 

EDIT I just searched "mehem dev group" in the search and this group isn't coming up. This group public or private?

Yea, the group is private. I was basically meant to replace the previous pm's, so that we are not limited by the 6 people restriction. It wasn't meant as public since it's a place to review testing versions of stuff internally before putting them out (as they may be buggy :) ).

 

On the module: haven't had time to look at things again yet (hopefully on the weekend). THanks for the offers to help everyone but I think it's quickest if I try first. I know the 500Choice.pcc file pretty well by now and I am making some educated guesses on what may be ok ot replace and what not. So if my "manual cloning procedure" that I want to try doesn't work, I'll just have to grind through it I guess.
What would be cool, if you guys have some time, could you try to make a clean install of the buggy version (the one llnked in the OP) and see if the crash is also randomly happening for you and if there are other problems? That would help quite a bit. Thanks!

I tried it about six times, but seems is a matter of my choice combination. In my case, Screen went black after citadel spreading arms.

 

I chose 3 paragon options, and normal one for the last choice with TIM.

 

Not sure if it helps. I now have a clean installation from origin, so I have to check again to be sure when I have a couple hours.

@IHJ: Your choices shouldn't matter for this. But if you see the citadel opening, than your problem is different from the crash issue (which is interesting). Two questions:

1. Just making sure I understand you correctly: you had a clean new install of the game, then installed MEHEM v0.4 and then the Harby mod and then tried it and get the black screen?

2. Is the save you sent me the other day the one you are trying this with? I'll try and check it out tomorrow.

No. I have to check this evening or tomorrow if I don't have the time. The previous try was with my triple installation:

-Mass effect vainilla ->works

-Mass effect  + MEHEM -> works

-Mass effect + MEHEM + Harby --> black.

 

Now I have a fourth version -ME3 Vainilla clean, that I have to adapt and try with. I'll report  as soon as possible with this one. I still have to make a backup copy and add the mod.

 

2)

Yes, this savegame is the only one I have, is my unmodified shep. No flags touched. You should have a savegame just in the moment he collapses. Or, if not, in the moment Shep wakes up after the beam (this one hurts, I know).

 

And probably recognize his face ;)

BTW, for testing, you can use the autosave, that is generated right after the TIM conversation. There are no changes before this point.

 

Also, just a reminder for everyone: when you test the Harby mod, make sure you do not have JohnP's additional LI mod installed. The testing version is not yet compatible with it. You need MEHEM v0.4 in it's base form.

The problem is that my savegame seems to be corrupted somehow. I mean, in theory if I use different installation, they access the same information. If I finish the game using MEHEM, works. If I load the savegame with MEHEM + harby, the file becomes corrupted and MEHEM cannot read it anymore.

 

I have to build an autosave with MEHEM and make a copy.

 

Not sure of what happens there...

Ok guys, I think I fixed the crash issue. It now loads for me every time (6 out of 6 trials).

Use the previous Harby files from the link in the OP. Install those on a clean MEHEM v0.4 gmae and just update/replace the BioD_End002_500Choice.pcc with this one:

If you used the Toc.bin from the previous version, there should be no need to update it. However, if you want to be on the safe side, run the DLC TOC.bin updater (disregard my scepticism about it in the OP, that was probably the crash issue itself :blush:. DLC TOC.bin updater should be fine ).

 

Hope it works this time. Still have to do the video updates, credits and Julia's soundtrack (it's all almost done now though. Next version with new videos,etc. should be up soon). But please, if you have time, test this one. Gotta make sure it works fine before I can tweak the little things.

Once I did run the TOCbin updater (I did it for Leviathan too to be safe) it worked just fine. I've only tried one save but I'll get some others going here too.

I'm still trying.

 

EDIT:

 

I've followed these steps:

 

-Updated the files inside DLC_CON_END, both movies/files, including the hotfix, that replaces the BioD_End002_500Choice.pcc file.

-Updated the files inside DLC_EXP_1, the file.

-Copied movies into main game movie folder, replaced 4 files.

-Updated the TOCBin file, 5 updates reported.

 

I'm still having the crash. I see that you updated the TOCBin inside the Sfar files. How can this be done? (if is beyond using the TocBin included on the harby rar) Is that the thingI still have to do?

 

I messed up something else?

EDIT2:

 

I'm at the point Deager was. After the fleet passes near destroyed ME relay I hear Hackett's voice, but afterwards it goes black, so I suppose I need to do just an update like he did. My fault :)
