Greetings everyone!
So I'm confident that bioware will be providing us with a great story and some new interesting lore. I do not doubt that at all. So far I've fully enjoyed all the games and expansions/DLC's.

However.

My main gripe with DA2 was enemy mages. They all were basically the same, the only difference was the color of their attacks ( I believe the sarebaas got an additional attack). It made for a very dull and boring battle.

One of the greatest things I loved about Origins combat was that enemy mages had access to the same spells we did. What was even better was that the enemies used a greater variety of spells in combat- and that made it fun! I'd get knocked down on my butt, slowed, burnt and hexed if I didn't prioritise. That's what I miss. In DA2 ( with the exception of Corypheus, cause you know, he had different spells) mages were just annoying, that weren't fun.
Remember Caladrius and his damn blizzard spell?
Or Zathrian and his hexes and ice spells? ( not too hard a fight but fun)
Fighting the dalish at their camp you fight 3 mages in total.
Zathrian, Lanaya ( who'd use spell might and stonefist) and Elora ( who'd use fireball, shock, Stonefist and petrify!) I mean in that small battle we had VARIETY and FUN!
You even fought a Darkspawn shapeshifter!

I really hope that we get this greater variety of enemy mages in Inquisiiton.
Is anyone else hoping for this too? What spells are you wanting to return or see???

I completely agree but not just with mages.

All archers just shot. All rogues just cloaked and backstabbed once. All warriors except elite ones just "Hrrrng"ed you. Elite Warriors for a change would stand in one place and swing their sword over their head!

I liked enemy mage spell differences in DA:O, although it was always annoying that every mage enemy seemed to spam hex of misdirection a whole lot.

For the second question, I absolutely love the mass murder spells like fireball, earthquake, that kind of thing.

I'd love to see a completely new, powerful mass control spell, like... ripping open an abyss that sucks enemies into it.

As for the first question, smarter AI in general would be great, I guess. Though I'm not gonna lie - I did enjoy breezing through DA2 like a god. :P

Oh my gosh this. I loved DA2 but goodness those mage fights got boring.

They did they same thing, only with slight variation.

Invincibility shield.

Maybe summon enemies.

Maybe a blue ball of exploding loldeath.

Teleport.

"lol U can't hit me!" shield.

Maybe summon enemies.

Maybe a blue ball of exploding loldeath. So on and so forth 'till they die.

I want enemies that use different spells, variation. This goes for mundanes and their lolstab or lolshoot skills. I don't want them to be predictable, unless they're like a mook enemy and there's tons of them I've fought before.

Strategy in fights, not just LOL-STAB-SHOOT-FIREBALL-THE-THING-'TILL-IT-DIES.

Yeah I should've included the other classes in my post, especially the poor archers.

Haven't they said one of the things that's going to be more focused on this time around is tactics in battle? So making enemy battles less generic seems like it'd be part of that.

That sounds excellent, but as long as variety is mixed in with those tactics, I'll be a happy Mage.
