I've just started playing Mass Effect for the first time, and I can't post in any of the sub-forums for the game other than 'Scuttlebut'. This is presumably because I don't have the game registered.  After combing through the FAQs, however, I don't see any information on how to register that specific instalment. Is there actually a way to do this?

You can register it on the old BSN site.  I don't think the game can be tracked right now on the new forum.

I could not register mine on the old BSN. I would like to know how to do it, even if it is not tracked here.

~~Edited~~ I have no option on the old BSN to register ME1. There are options for 2 and 3, but not 1.

I don't think we can, for some odd reason.

I misspoke.  I was thinking of the even older BioWare site pre-EA.  Sorry.  There is no way to register ME1 on the old BSN site.

You can't register Mass Effect 1 on the new forums because it never had an online verification and from the way I read several of the BioWare posts they did try to allow it here, but it wasn't reliable so they decided to remove it.

EA is really looking forward to win the worst company award for the third consecutive time.

I mean, my ME1 copy is attached to my Origin account (since it´s the me trilogy copy). The very same account I use to log in to this forum.

If it was a problem with retail copies and steam copies, I could understand that they need to do manually after being contacted. But not even with an Origin copy? Give us a break.

That is the problem, if it won't work for everyone why should they take time to implement the feature, when people will call them "the worst company in America" because they don't recognize the retail or Steam version, for then they are lazy and selfish because they are "forcing everyone to use Origin".

Well, that a double standard. Many games force me to use client X and I don´t hear complaints.

Personally, I have no problem with having to manually activate the game if it was not purchase through Origin and the game is old. I had to manually register my copy of Crysis Warhead.

Besides, you can still contact customer service. And there are always public forums opened to everyone. The forum for registered users is more like a bonus or a privilege, and an incentive to buy the origin version.

I like the idea of a forum for certified buyers. I think it dissuades most of the trolls.

It is a double standard and probably most people really won't care, but there are a enough people out there that complain that EA is trying to steal their data and look through all their files.  You are correct that EA can transfer Mass Effect 1 to Origin, but you need to realize that people are fearful that EA might try and do what Steam has already done to people, they are just okay that Valve does it.

I do think it is a shame that we can't register the older games, as well as different versions, any longer.

Personally I kind of miss seeing the different versions of Dragon Age: Origins under my avatar.

ME1 (and ME2, for that matter) keys aren't required to access anything on the new forum, so you aren't really losing a whole lot.

If you found the images under your avatar endearing or something, well, can't help you there.

So is there no way to reply to ME1 forums? I can't post there and while I'm getting my Origin accounts sorted out to get my ME3 and ME2 registrations brought over, I would like to post in ME1...

EDIT: Scratch that- Just went to that thread again and now I can post. Loading error, maybe?

I messaged Jesse Reid on the subject and it seems that on the new BSN, for all intents and purposes, there's no functional reason to have ME1 registered.  It would be a purely cosmetic thing, mainly to get the game icon under your avatar.

There is no need to register ME1 here.  All of that is handled in the back end when the forums checks your Origin account.  BW has already stated that the code for this isn't working properly so they disabled it.

Correct, the icons under your avatar no longer have anything to do with game registration. Instead they are used to link to your characters from other BioWare games. Since the only games that surfaced that data to the web were DAO, DA2, and ME3 those are the only ones available.

The "game registration" part that we use to check if you can post in the game owner categories is now handled differently than BSN. The previous process wasn't very accurate and also didn't work for everyone. Now we use the Origin user database to see if you have played the game while signed in and connected to the Internet.

The reason ME1 doesn't always work isn't really a code problem but more that when ME1 was released it didn't integrate with EA's user system because it was around the same time EA purchased BioWare. It might work if you've played ME1 through Origin but that won't be everyone. However, if you've played ME2 or ME3 you'll be able to post in any of the ME game owner categories so for most users that will be how they get access.
