Wait, how did no one find out until now? We've known about Masked Empire for over a year...

I just did some googling and there was literally nothing about this until it started appearing on publishers' websites and booksellers all over the internet - probably only in the last day or so. No news reports or press releases, etc.

So if I had to guess, it's been all worked out behind the scenes and nobody's 'officially' announced it yet. Which is weird, yeah, because The Masked Empire got *a lot* of buildup.

Maybe there's been a miscommunication somewhere and BioWare intended to announce this today or something.

Hmm,, it does sounds strangely fishy. I wonder if any of the devs would care to confirm...?  :)  :)  :) <3

On the one hand, I'm excited (give me more DA !). On the other I'm wondering "Who is this author?" I'll end up reading it because of the griffon on the cover and my curiosity about the Grey Wardens.

Guess it will be the Summer of Dragon Age for me. Everything and all things DA. :)

This site has it listed as over 400 pages, how awesome!

Edit: whoops, amazon has the page details too.

I don't want to question Liane Merciel's ability as an author (her other original series actually looks pretty cool) but it'd be reassuring if we knew that she was a fan of the series and had familiarity with the setting before starting the novel.

After the, frankly, utter disaster that was the last Mass Effect novel I'm not really very trusting of Bioware's quality-control processes when it comes to ancillary products, and it'd be nice to know that they picked a non-Bioware writer who still knew the universe in which she was working.

Her other books do seem to be pretty well rated, but as others have said, I would feel more comfortable if someone on the team was writing it.

We've never had a real look at how Wardens usually operate during a Blight.  And I've always wondered if Flemeth's shenanigans were unique to the Fifth Blight, or if she's done the OGB thing before.  Maybe we'll get an answer to that.  And Garahel!  And Griffons!  And shady Grey Warden secrets! The concerns about the writer are understandable, but I can't help being excited.

You know, 5 bucks says this book sets up the wardens as major enemies in Inquisition

To be clear: is this book sanctioned by Bioware, or is this someone's self-published fanfic?

These mirror my thoughts exactly and it's really the only thing that gives me pause. I'm guessing my excitement for DA is going to be so out of control by the time it's released I'll get it regardless of any doubt I may have about the author at this time.

The blurb seems legit, as does the cover.

Maybe they thought it might steal Mr. Weeke's thunder with his book, unlikely though it is judging from the responses. That is all my boxes for Inquisition ticked now.

I am extremely skeptical BioWare and Electronic Arts would allow full-spectrum self-publishing on a title based wholly on one of their Intellectual Properties.

Meh. If she doesn't work at Bioware's offices, if she never worked on dragon age, I might not buy the book. I remember the last disaster with Mass effect deception written by an author who never worked in the MA team. ( How many unbelievable errors with the lore lol ? ) and to be honest, I'm not really interested to read a book written by a fan of dragon age if that is what she is, even if she's an author.

Interesting.

Although, after "Deception", I'm a bit wary of authors not directly involved in the main story of the games.
