I have done a clean install from GoG. Changed the file name of SoA, changed the Baldur.ini file etc. and run the bat file. It started Ok until it asked about whether I wanted BGT or BG2 only. I chose BGT and the installer just closed. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Have you tried putting your baldur.ini and folder back the way it was, copy it again this time as a backup, then run the BGT install?

Will try that. However I have just read that installation runs much quicker if on a different hard drive.
I have therefore re-installed on F: (More space there anyway)
Will the problem of installing under program files be the same there, or is it just on your C drive?

When you changed the name was that before the install (good) or after the install (bad, registry will have different name to folder location).

It was before.

Well I have installed BGT Ok. I am familiar with Tutu and vanilla games. Is there any need to play BGT vanilla before adding mods?

No. Just follow the installation order in the BWS manual and you'll be fine.

Tried doing that and it doesn't work.
I have installed it on my F drive, using the default address but changing the C: to F:
When I looked in the bat file I saw that there were many C: references.
I am wondering if I need to change all the F: to C:
What do you think?

Did you install the GOG versions? Did you create a character and make a save in BG1, SoA AND ToB before installing BGT?

Posté 01 avril 2014 - 03:03
Yes to all questions.
I didn't create a new character, just imported a standard one which I believe is suggested by the pdf.

It's not necessary, it's just easier:) Did you run the BWS batch-file?

No just "Big World Install.bat"
Have now got BWS.exe
Looking on another thread I read that I should install
ToBex
BG2 Fixpack
BGT
other mods.
Is that true or does the BWS file sort all that out?
I extracted the files using the BWS.exe, and then tried to run the Big Picture Installer again but it still crashes out as soon as I have to choose between BGT and SoA.

Why are you running the BP installer? You don't need to. BWS will install Big Picture, BGT and any mod you want for you.
Are you using the latest version? You can get it here: https://bitbucket.or...setup/downloads. If you're using Windows 8 (and maybe 7, i'm not quite sure), open the BW Setup folder, right click on AutoIT3.exe, choose "run as administrator". In the next window, choose "Big World Setup.au3" and then "open".
My advise would be to make a clean install. Then run the LATEST BWS in the way described above. Read the instructions carefully, you can modify the installation and add or remove mods to your heart's content. After you're satisfied with your selection, choose "continue". You can even let it dl all the mods for you, while you're having a drink in the local pub. After it is done downloading all the mods, setup will tell you which mods it was unable to dl and ask if you want to download them manually. Do so (or skip them). After that, just let BWS finish the job.

Until this two days ago, I hadn't heard of BWS, just BGT and BP. Thanks for advice.
Everything appears to be running smoothly. I am doing the recommended mod set up initially and will play that first. ![]()
Thanks for the input everybody.
If those running the BWS read this, the instruction below was vital and ought to be included in a readme along with the exe file.
"open the BW Setup folder, right click on AutoIT3.exe, choose "run as administrator". In the next window, choose "Big World Setup.au3" and then "open".
Doing that was not intuitive. ![]()

LOL!
It's really my bad. I should have realized that was the problem all along ![]()

Thanks for the help, but I now have another problem during installation.
Every time that I get to a certain point the installation stops.

@Grim
Could you be a bit more specific? When exactly does it stop? Do you get an error message?

It hangs indefinitely? That's usually caused by either not running setup.exe as administrator or antivirus software interfering with the installation.

Tried again as administrator and virus protection/firewall switched off.
Exactly the same result!
It is the fix pack patch that is the problem.
F\program files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BiG World Fixpack\_utils\patch.exe
One file wasn't incorporated as needed manual help. It was item revisions. I hadn't worried as to me that mod is unimportant.
If it is important PLEASE INFORM.
This time in case that was the problem, I downloaded it from G3.
It is one of those files that you have to run to extract the files.
Norton did NOT like it and removed the file.
1) Is the file OK?
2) If so do I restore it and then run again with virus protection switched off?
or
3) restore it and let the batch file run it after switching off Norton?
4) Do I need item revisions at all? I don't really want it changing all the weapons anyway.
The virus detected was WS.Malware.2

Concerning WS.Malware.2: http://www.symantec....-040714-3811-99. It's not really malware, but it might cause annoying pop ups like this: https://community.no...e-2/td-p/565298
You don't NEED Item Revisions. I use neither Item nor Spell Revisions. Both mods are just a matter of taste.

In that case, since I don't really want it, I'll not add it to the set-up.
That leaves me with the same problem.
The patch for the fix patch hangs even though it was run as administrator with Norton disabled.
Could the problem be some other security software that came with the computer which I know nothing about?
Windows for example?

The only thing i can think of is Windows Defender, but i've never seen a report about WD interrupting an installation.
I'm assuming you downloaded the latest BWS from SHS ( notKerzenburg/Candlekeep). I'm also assuming you run setup.ext in the somewhat not-intuitive way i described earlier:)
Could you check the Big World Setup/Logs for any errors?

I used the link that you gave to bitbucket and used bws_20140215.exe. Is that OK?
Apart from the files that BWS couldn't download, all the mod files were downloaded using BWS.
Would it be best to only use mods supplied by BWS and do any additional modding later when at least I know that what mods that I have installed are OK?

Well things have progressed slightly. In view of the fact that it was the fix-pack patch that was hanging, I imported another fix-pack and the installer progressed somewhat.
It is now hanging a bit further on, but cannot read what the problem is as it is too small. In the Wiedu log, it has got as far as:~SETUP-BWINSTALLPACK.TP2~ #0 #0
Does that mean that the problem is with the installpack or the mod after that where the problem is?
I have had an error message from windows also: Windows has detected that AutoIt v 3 Script did not run correctly and has applied compatability settings. Windows will use those settings next time that I use the program. Is that a problem?
EDIT
I don't know if it is of significance, but without input from me, my Logitech camera software started to run during installation.
The camera was not plugged in.
EDIT
Tried another re-installation.
Got as far as the installation proper and it was running OK.
Came back to find it no longer running. Looked again at Weidu. Same as above. I assume that it crashed out.
Have now uninstalled Logitech vid the program that opened. It was wanting to connect to the internet but because the internet was disconnected, it was complaining. It is now obsolete anyway.
