Check the BWS logs for errors.. They're located in Big World Setup/Logs. I don't think you should allow Windows to change anything. Windows 8 has a nasty habit of assuming that something is not installed correctly, while in fact everything is fine.

No errors n the log files. Indeed nothing in the log folder other than backups.
Windows didn't ask if they should change the settings. They just did!!" ![]()
Now that I have uninstalled logitech vid, I will try another fresh installation.
As well as that uninstall, I have also switched off the power saver just in case that causes problems. It shouldn't have done since it hadn't switched itself off, but better safe than sorry.
EDIT:
I have run the set-up again and it is again hanging when it comes to the Fix-pack.
Since I got further when I downloaded the fix-pack from G3, it makes me strongly suspect that the file that BWS downloads for the fixpack is faulty.
I will check that out myself by downloading the fix-pack again and finding out if this improves things.
There are two issues that I have come across where BWS could be improved.
One is that at one stage the set-up became minimised so that I could not read it.
The other is that the option to process files one at a time was not available. For people who are having problems locating where a the problem is, it would be very helpful if that option were available. Then the offending file could be deleted from the set-up.
PS
On the site from which I downloaded the BWS.exe file, did I choose the best one as there were several possibilities?

I re-installed everything and downloaded BWS from SHS.
Ran BWS and had problems with three files that would not extract.
Pressed e to extract nothing happened.
Installation aborted.
Extracted them manually.
Now what?.
With the G3 file, I ran it so that the files were extracted and then didn't let the program run.
Is that what I should have done?
EDIT
Forgot to mention that BWS continues to try and open my Logitech camera. Complains that it isn't plugged in!
Still stalls at the same place with the Big World Fixpack.

Please ignore previous post as I have solved that problem myself.
I have now found out where the remaining problem lies,
but don't know how to fix it. ![]()
It is the Big World Fixpack
I tried running it (The Fixpack bat file) independently of the BWS and get exactly the same problem as when using BWS. Therefore the problem is not with BWS.
I am wondering if the fixpack is searching in the wrong places for a file since the programs are installed on my F drive.
Since it is a fixpack for the big world installation I assume that it is an essential mod?
THE FILE IN THE FIXPACK THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM IS:
_util\patch.exe
I opened the patch in a text editor and it said that it could not be run in DOS mode.
That is exactly what the bat file tries to do! Therein lies the problem! What is the answer? ![]()

Yes, it's an essential mod, you can't skip it. Well, you can do anything you like, but i wouldn't advise it.
I've never run across this specific problem. Problems like this are pretty much always caused by either:
- not running as admin
- try to install in Program Files (recipe for disaster)
- corrupted dl
I can only assume there's something wrong with the dl of the BW Fixpack. You might want to ask over at Candlekeep/Kerznburg . They're the real experts. http://kerzenburg.ba...isplay.php?f=82

I have discovered what is wrong.
I have a corrupted F: drive which unfortunately windows cannot fix. The corrupted Fixpack was just part of a much bigger problem.
Thanks for your help, particularly Flamedance.
I will have to buy another drive. ![]()
At least I now know the problem and can hopefully now solve it..
