I've just played 2 rounds of Gold (usually play Silver). Needless to say I failed miserably and was carried, although I feel pretty confident on Silver at this point. So, which character would you consider to be the easiest (most foolproof) for novice Gold player, while allowing to contribute to the team and not just be busy staying alive?
The easiest character to step up from Silver to Gold with?

TGI and AIU are by far the easiest.
But if you want to progress into gold, not just easy mode, then you need to suck it up and do your part of dying, instead of using the lol kits. I'd suggest start with a kit you like and are familar with.

Try this from the resource library
How to Transition to Gold Video, by InterwebNinjaME: Live Link
some further advice - use a character you're comfortable with, but stay away from fragile characters at first. Try something with heft, but mobility like the Turian havoc sol/eng/inf

Looking @ your manifest, you can't go wrong w/ Turian Soldier or Quarian Male Engineer. Paladin and Krogan Shaman are usable in the right hands.
However, all 3 of your infiltrators are Gold legit, AIU/GI being Plat legit, so I'd get comfortable w/ those characters and reap the benefits.
Your weapons manifest is not great yet but you have a Wraith and a GPS, either of them will work on the AIU/GI.

Turian Ghost, EDI-bot, Juggernaut...anything that's considered an "lol" character if you're going for easy.
But I did what chcknwng said and advise you to do the same - you should jump in with a kit you dominate silver with and take your lumps.
You're gonna die. You're gonna have trouble killing things as fast as you normally would. You're going to be overwhelmed. The speed of Gold is so much faster than Silver, and the only way to slow it down is to play enough to catch up to it. It will take some time but once you get accustomed to it, you'll settle in and find a groove. Then you can branch out and start playing unorthodox setups, on Gold, without problems.

LOL I can! Couldn't stop dying on Silver with lvl 18 Turian Soldier. Switched to Human female soldier and started dominating the scoreboard. It's probably the lack of dodge maneuver that screws me up.
Quarian Male Engineer feels comfortable, I might try him. When I played him it didn't feel like I was doing a whole lot, but was consistently scoring 2nd. He doesn't have escape ability, though.

Close Quarters you have Annihilation Field + Throw
at range you have Dark Channel + Throw.
Asari Valkyrie
Close Quarters you have Annihilation Field + Warp.
you have Tech Armor Damage Reduction and a reliable dodge.
The Raider is the best option for her out of all the Rare weapons.
If you don't like bring in the enemies face all the time, you can just use Warp and shoot with the Raider w/ Warp ammo.
imo the Valkyrie is more forgiving when it comes to survival.
The Fury is more fast paced, so I think the Valkyrie is better suited for a jump of difficulty.

That would be human vanguard (Charge + Nova FTW), but I think that's only going to get me into trouble on Gold. The team will hate me for charging across the map and dying there.

Take the character you feel most comfortable with on silver. If you can do very good on silver you will do well on Gold too.
I started on Gold with the Turian Sentinel because he was and still is one of the most versatile kits in the game. As weapons you could use your Mattock or Wraith at the beginning.

Tsol is all about RHA, situational awareness, and Geth Scanner to wall hack. None of the characters in ME3 would allow you to stand out in the open for an extended period of time on Gold.
QME has the best escape power: Arc Grenades. There isn't any problem that couldn't be solved by throwing 5 grenades with Incinerate in between.

I agree on the Fury... that was my early 'gold crutch class' and-currently-the only class I'm comfortable to play in a plat match, now Paladin withstanding....I also agree on the Valk both are similar but the Valk is lots more tankish..
Fury that was my favorite toon as soon as I unlocked her so I played her exclusively and got good (relative to the word haha)... I suggest using the 1-2 kits you are comfortable with.
Paladin is very akin to a Fury in the way you play-sort of-and is currently my favorite kit to play..
if you play on PS3 add me and I'll run some golds with you if you like.

Haha yeah, it takes a while to get used to the no dodge/roll aspect of him, but he's seriously a contender on Gold once you're used to him, the proxy mine debuffs coupled w/ Marksman is major deeps.
The QME is my favorite Engineer and it's not even close. You can proc your own fire explosions with Incinerate + Arc Grenades, you get Tac Scan for bosses, 4 pts in fitness gets you 750/900 which is more than enough to survive in Gold. Also, you do have an "escape ability" (I'm assuming you mean a dodge?) w/ the QME, he gets the side hop and the combat roll forward and backward ![]()

Nova has invincibility frame. You can do nova cancel and stand in front of a turret and not die. However the damage output is kinda lackluster. Most people play Novaguard as a tech detonator by using Disruptor Talon to prime stuff, and charge/nova to detonate.
Apart from giving out general advice it would help for you to learn more about game mechanics. You can go over stuff in the Library and read about how stuff works in this game, and it will help your transition a lot.

No, I meant something more substancial, like infiltrator's cloak, or Adrenaline rush (the shield regen aspect), or biotic charge (insta shield replenish).

Paladin has a roll and shield drain ability when leveled up can give you 100% shields back-provided your target has shields left-you can play him exclusively vs Geth since the shield drain word 100% on synthetic enemies

LuckyStarr, you're going to have a hard time playing Gold with the equipment you have right now. My suggestion would be to at least bringing all of your consumables up to 6 and unlocking all uncommon weapon mods before going to Gold.
If you insist on playing Gold with your current manifest I see 2 options- Any infiltrator with a Mantis if you've got good aim or a power combo kit. From the kits you've got unlocked I would recommend either the N7 Paladin/ Human Engineer if you like tech based powers or the Human Adept if you prefer biotic explosions. Of course you can always just take a Geth Juggy and slap on some cyclonics if that's your thing.

Asari Huntress Infiltrator if you have it. Will always contribute due to dark channel and biotic attacks, very very survivable due to tactical cloak.

I don't, but it'll be nice to play a gold game every now and then until I get all the ideal equipment to transfer to Gold permanently.

You already know what NOT to do (charge across the map and die
) - Just go in a lot more cautious than you would on silver. Maybe stick by a teammate? I still feel it's best to go in with something you're really comfortable with.
Either that or get more comfortable with one of the other chars that people have mentioned before taking them out into gold, or play with someone you know so you can try a bunch of different chars and not feel as much pressure. The Colldept is pretty good, but it takes some learning.
