TGI is without doubt the easiest. It is also probably the worst kit for a new player to play as it cripples you as a new player because it allows you to play ultra stupidly which will not wash with other kits.

You really should consider getting good with the GI though. It will teach you more than any other kit about how to play and play effectively. You can see the field better, learn to play with a squishier kit, dump aggro, etc. I would play the heck out of that kit on silver until you're comfortable then expand out.

I agree about the GI: the passives, hunter mode, and TC all boost damage so even poor weapons excel (eviscerator and disciple are devestating on gold on a GI). I did glance at your manifest, but don't remember if you have geth (crutch) scanner; HM is even better and boosts speed too. The important thing about it though, is its ability to teach you the movement pattern of different units, and where they are spawning.

A warning though; as a new player make sure you use a cyclonic on the GI going into gold, otherwise you'll be down a lot!

If you can comfortably carry your usual difficulty with a given character/weapons combination, you will be ready to play & contribute well on the next higher one. So take whatever you feel most comfortable with, this is by default probably the best character for you to step up. Using consumables on Gold and knowing about combos and opponent stagger mechanics will also go a long way here.

Having more shields/health via spec, gear and/or cyclonics or some way of damage reduction via Tech Armor or a "free ops packs" power such as stimpaks or repair matrix and the like will certainly help, but on higher diffculties it is most important to know where the enemy is and to adjust your position/cover and movement path accordingly. Any prolonged time out in the open without movement is likely to get you killed quickly. If you don´t know most of the good cover&flanking areas, spawn locations & ammo box locations on the maps by heart, you may want to become familiar with them first before stepping up.

When you are able to change your running path on the fly to a good one without thought (even if the two banshees just teleported out of the wall in front of you), you´ll survive much better with any character. Alternatively, Hunter Mode or Geth Scanner trivialize this part of the game, so using them may also help you a lot.

An important thing that is very different on Gold vs. lower difficulties is that non-bosses are much more dangerous here. So leave those Bullet Sponges for last and clean up the ground troops first.

LOL I can! Couldn't stop dying on Silver with lvl 18 Turian Soldier. Switched to Human female soldier and started dominating the scoreboard. It's probably the lack of dodge maneuver that screws me up.

Quarian Male Engineer feels comfortable, I might try him. When I played him it didn't feel like I was doing a whole lot, but was consistently scoring 2nd. He doesn't have escape ability, though.

Yeah, the Turian Soldier is surprisingly squishy on Gold.  He does have higher than average shields, but his poor mobility easily negates that.  Plus, he's a class that relies on weapons, and if you're a Silver player, you probably aren't quite that good with weapons yet (and probably don't have the best weapons to use either).

I always say that when you're moving up a level, you should use classes with better survivability.  Killing scales pretty well from one level to the next, but when you're first moving to Gold from Silver, you don't really have a sense of what kind of damage you can take before you go down.  This means that you die a lot, and all the killing power in the world doesn't help in spectator mode.

TGI and AIU are good choices, as mentioned already.  Try characters with damage reduction powers and play them as you would play in Silver without damage reduction.  Any Krogan gives you good survivability, you just need to really watch out for Banshees.  I actually prefer my Krogan with an Adrenaline Mod for Gold.  The Pull/Reave Justicar with the Acolyte and Hurricane is also an excellent class for moving up a level.  And the best may actually be the Batarian Soldier.  He is very survivable because he moves pretty well (especially with Adrenaline), he has high shields and damage reduction, and he has one of the best staggering powers - if you're in a jam, just fire Ballistic Blades and GTFO while the enemies are staggered.  Plus, Inferno Grenades make boss enemies easy.  Just get them down to their armor, toss a grenade or two, and sit back and laugh while they burn.

Honestly I'd recommend you stay in Silver for a while longer, until you have Uncommons guns maxed, have most of the Uncommon weapon mods, have built up a decent stockpile of Lv II consumables from your Veteran Packs, and have gotten comfortable playing Silver with a variety of kits.

As for more suggestions, I've noticed you have the Turian Sentinel. Try this build out. Has no dodge though, and you don't have a stockpile of Adrenaline Mods to compensate, so be sure to give LOTS of space to Banshees and Phantoms, and remember you can detonate Tech Armor as an emergency stagger when a Phantom is close.

The trouble here is while HA is indeed power house, it´s also kind of squishy. New players usually have problems with situational awarness and game mechanics, so they get shot at far more often then others. I didn´t suggest it, because I suspected OP would faceplant too much and would end up disillusioned.

I would agree if we're talking a Warp + Shockwave max power explodyness build. Close quarters focused squishy kit with no gap closing powers is probably not a thing for noobs.

But Alijah specifically said Warp + Singularity build, which shouldn't be too bad since they're both long distance powers.

Spec out of Shockwave, go full shields in Fitness. 800ish shields with that awesome human dodge roll, should be okay.

AIU and TGI were my crutches for gold and later platinum. Characters that can instantly regenerate shields will give you a higher chance for surviving higher difficulties with stronger enemies.

I guess characters with Tech-Armor, Barrier, Fortification,... are also good characters to step up to gold.

It's painful when stepping up if you only PUG.  That's when you can't yet carry but do contribute nicely.  The lobby along with map/enemy combination can mean fun or frustrating.

For the record, I think the Human Sentinel is a great kit for a weak manifest, and it's what I used in Gold when I started over on PS3 a couple of times.

Warp and Throw cover a huge variety of situations, by themselves, and you can focus on the Combos that you create with them for big ticket damage and crowd control.

Tech Armour is a great way to make the character tankier, giving you a survivable character for Gold. The H-Sent is easy to use, and it can get to be a crutch, but I think it makes for a better bridge kit than the Juggy, AIU, or TGI.

I must say your manifest looks a bit weak for Gold.

If you really want to try I might go for:

Sniper:   Havoc + Incisor V Geth (The Incisor needs the Turian Stability to be viable) Aim for the top of the chest,

Shotty:  AIU + Either the GPS or Wraith

You're limited with Assault rifles. The Geth AR is just about ok, but you might try the Havoc + Typhoon.or the Sabre if you're good at head shots.

For Vanguards I would go with the Asari. She's great against Cerberus.  I prefer her with the Pirhana, but she also works well with the Wraith.

The AV was MY first Gold Character

Looked at your manifest since others mentioned it was weak and have to agree.  Stick with Silver for a little longer to at least max your commons and consumables.  Or just find a modded game since you're on PC.

My suggestion is to take the character and build you are testing, and do silver solos. Pick a compatible map and enemy, and see how you do. You don't need to be able to extract, but if you can't make to wave 4 or 5, it probably won't work well for you in gold. And you should be able to solo bronze successfully with the kit. How I did it, anyway.

Great idea, I want those solo extractions achievements anyway. However, even with my most powerful kit - Human Vanguard - I kept died at wave 10-11 (got sync killed every time I tried). So yeah, too early for gold for me.

My suggestion is the Geth Soldier (trooper), without the flamer. He has a dodge, is fast, and has fortification and good shields. Since he has no powers, you can carry the heavy weapons. Best IMHO is a strong shotty (GPSG if you have it will cover all bases, shoots fast, staggers, accurate at long range, and when charged hits very hard) plus a good sniper or AR. In game just turn on fortification and hunter mode, and leave them on. You only have your guns, so your tactics are simplified, and Hunter Mode keeps you out of ambushes. And you have no need to get up close with the enemy, so you shouldn't die too often. Then just run along with the team and keep close.

Suggestion: don't biotic charge sync kill enemies.

Off topic, but when (and why) did Bioware stop letting us indicate male or grill in our profiles?  Avatars are not reliable. Makes me skittish.

Blasphemy! How else would I kill them? With so called weapons? Ha!

Usually I can dodge in time before they sync kill me. Usually.

Just assume everyone on the internet is a gelatinous tentacle monster of indeterminate gender, race, sexuality, nationality and ideology.

It's so much easier, that way.

So I've tried AIU and it works awesomely. Played a couple games, in the most recent one ended up outscoring everyone by 50%, including two guys with insane N7 ratings and challenge ratings, and the 3rd guy with twice higher stats than mine. Not to mention I was the last man standing a couple of times in that game :)

But how do you play Human Adept? Or any adept, for that matter, except for Collector? The biotics damage is very low.
