Since I need a break from the ravings of the Mage/templar/everythingelseunderthesunonthedas thread, here is a question for ya'll.

In return to Ostagar there was the Darkspawn Necromancer, who admittedly in some ways was a pain, but for the most part I truly enjoyed, especially the whole Duncan Ogre part.

Do you think we see more of these creatures, or was it more a non canon for the cool factor creature we will only see in RTO/awakenings?

The awakenings one wasn't as cool, but I still enjoy the concept......except something about it totally doesn't fit to me with the dragon age world. I don't know why, but as cool as it is to go after in Ostagar the whole time something is saying it just doesn't fit.

Some Darkspawn apparently dabble in rarely seen magic, its true.

Such as the Architect being capable of casting Amaterasu, The Genlock Shape Changer, The two Necromancers mentioned.

I'd like to think these individual Darkspawn were merely singled out as exceptional members of their species, not overly indicative of Darkspawn Magic it self.

So i'd consider them exceptions not the norm and therefore canon.

I agree with master warder on this one. I'd imagine its possible that we might see another but we would see them rarely if at all.

Bearing in mind the devs have said that magic has gone nuts in DA:I anything is possible.  We've seen examples of rare extraordinary magical abilities, and judging by the videos that we've been shown there are a great number of dead. So I think that it is likely we'll see more of these anomalies.

That is a very good point.  I think that several bets are off the table now with the Veil torn like wet paper.

Edit: If they do throw something like that in, I want it to feel special.  For example, the fight with Sloth in the Broken Circle felt epic and pretty creepy.  Him and Uldred were supposed to be examples of powerful mages becoming an abomination.  In DA2, abominations were reduced to fodder we slew by the handfuls.

If they use this idea, let the Necromancer be a one or two time deal: Make it powerful and have a strong impact to the story, and not just yet another low level mob/ mid level boss we kill for exp.

There were also darkspawn necromancers in Bownammar and Fort Drakon.

Presumably the most common cause for undead is the Veil being torn and demons entering corpses of their own volition. I assume necromancers achieve the same effect by luring or coercing them over to the physical world.

Somehow I have a hard time imagining darkspawn having a connection to the Fade.

Another example would be the Baroness scenerio in The Black Marsh. The Mother sends the First to intercept the Warden with "a present".  Next thing you know a Darkspawn broodmother has supposedly transported the Warden from Kristoff's body, through the fade and back to a time,  where they find a whole village of captured souls.  What caused that, and who actually managed such a feat has never really been explained to me.

@Johun

The darkspawn are connected to the fade according to Wynne when you first meet her at Ostagar.  She does ask your PC if you know of the connection but she doesn't go into detail.  We just get a lecture on the hubris of men and the reason for the darkspawn.  We've never heard anything more about this and I'm hoping we'll find out more this time around.  In Alistair's backstory or he said himself Duncan recruited him because he had been trained as a Templar and his training would be helpful against darkspawn mages.

That necromancer in RTO looked like a darkspawn dwarf to me.
