You wouldn't be tempted to just pick mage as the basis but only add one point to learn fireball?  I mean...  you get a decent ranged attack that doesn't use stamina.  It's practically a freebee.

No, I have no interest in being a mage. Unless I were playing the arcane warrior. But outside of that, no.

For me personally the only thing I want is the weapons, not the talents and skills. I want a longsword rogue. I'm not worried about a completely classless system.

Fair enough.  For what it's worth, I don't really understand why there are class restrictions on weapons and armor... simply equipping items should be based on attributes only.

Maybe. I'd be more likely to pick fire/ice/telekinetic weapons to add some punch to melee attacks or to bypass good physical defences. But to make those spells work it'd probably come at the cost of increasing magic instead of strength or con. There's a trade off, it's not completely free. But at least I have the option to try that if I want. Options are good.

As it was in DAO.

I'm basically ignoring DA2 at this point. I will judge Inquisition using only DAO as my point of reference.

To be honest, I much prefer the Class limitations. In fact, I really miss the plethora of classes we see in systems like DnD or Pathfinder if you will. I like all that stuff ALOT. I find the Dragon Age Class system too limiting. (Though I still love the daylights out of the series)

That would be my second choice. If I can't have a classless system, I would like a whole bunch of classes. Many older games did this well.

For example, no character in Dragon Age should be allowed to use heat vision, as this is an alien ability with no basis in lore....

Owww... :(

But seriously, agreed

I am opposed to a classless system, not a custom class option.  Unless careful considerations are made, and some kind of limits put in place from the start, it might become  too easy to make OP characters as the game progresses.  It can't be a total free for all, and IMO it can't be something that gets changed halfway through the game when you decide you want to start incorporating crossbows...

hello

the thing is that a strict class system like DA:2  does makes OP even easier if not to say a matter of fact. We can use the the vanguard berserker/reaver to the mage example. such char or any off (the ultimate build type) does make the companion mainly redundant (and you end up using the same cooldown in the same order which is not monotonous at all)

It is not that I don't agree with you on classless easily leading to OP. It is just that a class system is basically just as bad only in a different way.

and really classless or class based does not matter as much compared to how the system is implemented.

so for example let take Sylvius rogue with his two longsword and super dodge, being created as a mage with 1 point spend in fireball. This will only a problem if that concept ends up being more powerful (or significantly under-par)  compared to the same Sylvius rogue spending 1 point in longbow/crossbow.

IE yes as a freebie it is chronically broken however there is way of mitigating the difference currency either via meaningfull difference ROF, buff, debuff, defender penalties and range.
