The Dales had, hmm, the Emerald Order, I think? Lob will remember the exact name.

Emerald knights.

Although their purpose? Maker if i know, Lob would likely know if they served a specific function or no.

I just remember you get a ring with that name on it from the High Dragon in DA 2 in act 3.

You figure having the good will and being the meal ticket of the commoners would only do things right?

Raises their quality of life, gets them off the cities which reduces crime and racial tensions and they perform a needed duty.

It's a win-win. Plus, dwarves might not need as much lyrium as other race so, we save money too.

They were border guards.

We already had one elf with Dalish parentage who didn't identify as being Dalish primarily... or even elfish for that matter, as that was secondary, since he identified himself primarily as Antivan.

An elf who joined the Templars would probably be similar in that regard, identifying as Andrastian first, Templar second, etc.

Same for dwarves who joined up.

Well, that may not be entirely true now, but initially Templars were supposed to be recruited for their zeal and unwavering loyalty... could be different with the crisis that is happening.

Hmm, since Dwarves don't have a connection to the Fade/can't be Mages, would one even get Templar powers from consuming Lyrium?

Now that I wonder, what about a Tranquil drinking a lyrium potion?

Dwarves are still affected by lyrium. Exposure is where they get that resistance from, and raw lyrium can addle their minds, like that one vendor in Origins. Still, a dwarf templar would most likely be a surface dwarf and maybe have enough generations down the line to not have as much resistance.... maybe?

As for the tranquil... a tummy ache? They handle a lot of lyrium, since they do a lot of enchanting, but drinking refined lyrium would probably be no different than drinking a soda to them... at least that is what I think. Unlikely to see any tranquil templars.

The Keepers are mostly descended from the nobility who governed the Dales (with exceptions like Lanaya), so it's unlikely they had templar equivalents. The Emerald Knights were a legion founded to protect the land from human intrusion. The codex on the hallas mention elven knights rode them in ancient times (but not since the fall of the Dales), so there may have been other knightly orders in the Dales.

Regarding the OP, I wonder how elven templars are treated in the Alienage, and by Circle mages.

Well you can give oghren the templar specialisation in DAO but that could of been done simply for gameplay reasons.

Why would Circle mages treat them differently, considering many of them are elves themselves?

Great now we need to pester Gaider about Dwarves ability to become Templars...And here i was hoping the thread would stick to topic for at least a little while.

Well, the ancient elves had Arcane Warriors... I'd say that would be their "equivalent" if we are talking about a glorified knightly order. Emerald Knights just sound like the Night's Watch. Edit: Minus the criminals and strict oaths... maybe... Since they would be more exposed to humans than elves more in the country... maybe restrictions would be placed on the Emerald Knights? Like they couldn't visit the core regions or something?

This was all too friendly. I had to do something to help derail all this civilized discussion.

The circle certainly is a mixing pot, makes sense for the Templars to be the same way come to think of it.

Now this is an excellent idea. If I could like your post, I would.

On topic: i'd love to have elven Templar companion, but likely we again will have to do with our own alter-ego, learning this spec.

So far the closest to OP's request we've had, was Fenris, but his spec was OP mix of all 3 warrior's specializations.

I'd love to see Elven (Or Dwarven!) Templars, but I kinda imagine that some elves (especially Dalish) would view Elven Templars as the ultimate provokation to their original magical nature.

Even if we get one as a companion in future games, I still like to see one

Hmm... elf companions so far:

-Sketch: Sort of gives the view of an apostate hireling.

-Zevran: City Elf(?) with a Dalish mother, gives view of an elf who is assimilated into his national culture, seeing himself as Antivan, still slightly sympathetic to other elves, but not making it a personal mission.

-Velanna: Dalish extremist, to the point where she is exiled. Shows the extremes of Dalish.

-Ariane: A nice Dalish warrior, proud, honorable, kind, friendly.

-Fenris: Ex-slave, mage hater, Tevinter perspective... not much opinion on Dalish or City Elves that I can remember, too obsessed with mages.

-Merrill: Cheery, bubbly, Dalish mage goof... gives a slightly rebellious view of Dalish magic and shows confusion over the Circle system.

-Tallis: Qunari...ish.

I suppose it would be nice if an elf Templar was charismatic and very encouraging to other City Elves (maybe use the Chant when talking to Andrastian elves?), with a rational, hopeful attitude. Just to be different from the others.

That, or a coward who is crying all the time... but I don't think anyone wants a companion like that...

She looked like a rogue type to me.  It's probably too late in development to have our request heard for this game, but I'm really hoping for an elven templar companion/NPC in the future.

:(  Small orbs of  concentrated  wind energy impacting my chest tend to do horrible things to the Chakra receivers...makes it a **** to maintain connection with them.

Corpses cannot die, but the displacement/destruction of the rods is an annoyance to be sure.

Templars can have rogue's in their ranks
