I always struggled to find a common ground with people, who couldn't get past looks, while playing an RPG. To me, the importance of appearance could suit a game like SIMS, but not a game with storyline (often deep and three-dimensional) behind each major character.

Sorry about rambling, it's been boiling for some time.

Templar in everything but name really. He's there to provide a Templar perspective more or less, has Templar powers, and if you're a mage, picks up the slack where Carver left off after Act 2. He's a way to have a character talk about these issues, without seeming too out of place (like a real Templar squaddie).

Pallascedar above pretty much explained it best as to why Fenris isn't the best example

In some respects yes, but when a character's appearance places them so out of context with the setting of a game, it can become an immersion breaking issue.

In DA it is a little surprising to be wandering down the street and encounter a companion who looks like he could have just jumped off an airship.

But he wasn't. At all.

Templars make vows to the Chantry. They forsake their chance at having a family in order to serve the Maker. Some Templars may hate magic, but it isn't what defines them. It'd be interesting to see, I'm also curious if there are any Elven Mothers or Sisters.

Wouldn't surprise me overly.

Elves if allowed to be Templars likely would be able to be avowed as well.

I really don't care about the templars part Lob. I am focusing more on the initial missionaries being kicked out.  How that can be construed as anything other than religious intollerance that is prevalent all over Thedas is my point.  They aren't under any obligation as religious freedom doesn't exist in Thedas. However, seeing as how they kicked the missionaries(before the Templars) out of the Dales-your own words- is where I am drawing the conclusion that in a realistic sense the Dales were as religiously intollerant as everywhere else on Thedas.  What exactly am I not communicating here.

-I am not taking a side in the Dales/Orlais/Chantry conflict, just pointing out an observation about the Dales from the limited information we have.

I have to agree. Since religious freedom doesn't exist, the Dales behaved like any other sovereign nation who chooses an official religion for themselves. There is no high ground here, since neither Orlais nor the Dales thought otherwise. The difference is that the Elvhen religion is racial, doesn't try to expand, while the Chantry is an expansionist religion.

The thought that the missionaires are the vanguard of a foreign invasion has been repeated very often through history. Sometimes it happened, but very often it did not.

His unusual looks were addressed in his background, and that was enough for me to look past it to find a person.

He doesn't look any different than other elves, other than having a better nose bridge. Facially, he fits. And the armor is either clothing or light (looks like he has some sharp pauldrons or something). I think it fits well enough for a scrapper type. He isn't supposed to be different than other scrappers, like rogues or warrior barbarians. There are chasind who run around naked with large weapons too, and rely on potions (rock salve?) to protect themselves. Ash warriors are lightly armored too.

On a sidenote, Fenris had one of Inon Zur's best musical themes. I heard he wasn't as happy as his score in DAO, but that one stood out.

Ahh Mage Pride, one of his best if I do say so myself.

That's an... interesting prospect on his character, i can definitely see him like that. Thank you, Lob :)

I will fully admit, even though Fenris was one of my favorite companions, I would have killed to have him look like that in game. It looks awesome.

De nada. :) It's supposed to incorporate Tevinter motifs that they hadn't come up with yet in Dragon Age II, so it's a departure from how he looked in Kirkwall.

Hey I like Fenris, however I can see how his basic design comes off as being a little out of character for the setting.  The clothes never really bothered me, more his overall look/hair do.  Again it wasn't an issue for me, but I can see it being one for others.

I think it's just the hair that feels a bit out of place. I forgave it because I thought it was cute, but o can see why others would be annoyed.

It wasn't natural though, but a side effect of Danarius' experiment, so it was ok to me.

I was thinking more about the swishy style than the color.

Im sure the elf from sebastian's quest that nearly has molten gold poured over her becomes a chantry sister, she sends a letter about it.
