This ancient, dusty tomb was built almost entirely of massive standing standing stones, then buried under many tons of earth for safe keeping. It was constructed by mysterious agents long forgotten--mayhap stone giants or multitudes of orc slaves working for a powerful shaman--in order to safeguard their dead rulers. What great treasures and fell horrors lie within can only be guessed.

Okay, I think made enough progress that I thought I'd ask for some feedback. One question I have is whether I should put dirt textures along the bases of all the stones? It all seems a little too clean at the moment. Maybe I should include some dirt curves along the edges and in the cracks?

tintable dirt/dust/moss/webs would be cool - or some tileset specific placeables to the same effect :)

a very spartan design for something very old = nice style of architecture for dungeon crawling and plenty of room to house huge-sized monsters

Yes, that's roughly where I'm going with this. I wish I could make some stone door to go with it; oh well. I raised the roof enough so that it fits giants and most other big creatures okay, although some of the largest dragons still poke through the top. But that's probably true of most tile sets.

If the floor is tintable, then you could match the colour to the dirt pile placeable (which unfortunately isn't tintable itself). Dirt piles could be scaled and rotated randomly and placed at the base of some of the columns.

Chances are the beetle mound would already match the current floor colour.

Here, have a tintable dirt mound I made for my module.  Uses only stock textures, so you just need this mesh and a suitable entry in your 2DA.

Yup that does work--dirt mounds left; beetle mound right. The dirt hue is not very visually appealing, but oh well. :)

I'll have to give that a try. Thanks.

A great looking tileset! Well done!

I would second what Morbane said ....

Yes, it's mine, although most of the textures are from your project. I'm just calling it Barrows. It still has a ways to go, but I have the basic pattern pretty much worked out. I was hoping to see if anybody noted some fundamental flaws, but it sounds like this will do.

Thanks Lance. I'll see what I can do.

Here's a few more progress shots. Let me know if anything strikes your fancy, or especially if not. I've added quite a few variants thus far. Are there any in particular you'd like to see?

4. This shows a cave-to-barrow transition tile plus one of the narrower bendy hallways. The dirt pattern on the floor was used to blend the transition a little. I'm also including stair tiles that do barrow-to-cave transitions (not shown).

5. Here's a couple of door tiles, a corner, an open tile with a slight rise and, in front, a depression. Unfortunately there isn't a stone door to go with these, so wood will have to do.

6. This demonstrates the tiles after a mossy tinting, plus a hallway end. I'm not so fond of the floor color now, but oh well.

7. A double-door tile.

8. Finally, here's the room concealment test, which you might have seen earlier. It seems to be working fine. From this you can see some of the odd tile shapes I've been adding. Any others you'd like to see?

Hi rjshae,

I am liking every screenshot so far ... I have no problem with the colours (I think they all look great), but I am colour blind so may not be the best judge.

I am looking forward to adding this tileset to my collection. :)

That made me laugh for a looong time :)

I think the colours work well too. What about some crude wall painting VFX.

When I say crude I am thinking prehistoric style cave painting images or ritualistic symbols not boobs.

It must be said, however, that boobs have featured in numerous prehistoric cave paintings that I've seen, as well as male genitals.

I was thinking about some carved stone symbols.

I guess I could make a texture of a commons image and use it for a door cap. Not sure.

Cave paintings seems more suited for, well... caves. :)

That looks nice and the carved images were what I had in mind.

There are already some carved stone placeables but they are too Gnomish gods iirc and would be out of place.

As for the crude cave paintings Tchos, I thought they confined themselves to hunting scenes, i was wrong. I am sure there must be a specialist website for that ... not sure I want to Google it though.

Well, I don't want to stray into it much longer in Bob's thread, but the ones you're talking about are pretty much the only ones that the academics thought were appropriate to show to the public for a long, long time.  They tended to lock away the risqué ones, showing them only privately to educated men (no women allowed).  With the rise of the internet and widespread sharing of information it's not so much a secret anymore.

Well here's one attempt. It's... not so great. Maybe a different pattern? Probably should go with a spiral.

Not at all. That looks great Bob.

Is it fixed into the door tile or a placeable?

I should mention I'm a fan of carved rock like that.  Spirals, shapes, you name it.

I'm pretty happy with this one. It's from the entrance rock at the Newgrange burial mound.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Its part of the tile. Unfortunately that means you won't be able to change it when you switch wall textures. But hopefully it'll go with most rocky textures.
