What makes SP so much easier than MP?

So I returned to SP after a year away (jumped into a mid game save), and surprise surprise, the game was easier than before i played multiplayer. I thought at first this was just down to Shep's god like stats, but when I reset her powers she had more or less base human values.

(As an aside: Where did my heavy bone weave etc go?)

My next thought was weaker enemies; but I used the javelin V (better than *my* Jav II) and found that mooks seemed stronger than in gold (no OSK on marauders, when using disupter level 6 ammo), although brutes, banshees etc went down quickly.

So I guess its mainly the AI? The enemies seemed more cautious (polite?) which of course meant loads of time to take them out. I'm not the best javelineer but I scarecely missed a headshot!

Thoughts? Obviously (or not I suppose) I'm comparing insanity with gold.

Enemy shield gate in SP is non-weaked.

Did you like the "slow down" effect on sniper rifles after playing multiplayer? Concentration mod   . Were you using a infiltrator? Because I believe tac cloak has all it's former glory in SP than in MP. But I did feel ai less forgiving in my SP play through too. Can't point out exactly why..

Enemies dont bumrush.

No phantom/dragoon midnight party.

No lolpraetorian wallhaxing lazor.

Longer shield gate times.

You have 2 ai teammates = free decoy.

3 powers can be used together(yours, and your 2 teammates)

Etc.

No concentration mod :)

I did use an infi because that was the save (I only actually have two complete SP playthroughs). I actually had to respec her because in my deluded pre- MP days I went duration and bonus power for TC  .

I didn't like the slow down (missed some shots early on because I was tracking the movement, and then the rate suddenly changed as I scoped in...).

I did like the length of TC... when my team went down and I could be bothered, I'd cloak and go revive them. Felt just like a PUG :D

The only thing that came close to MP in SP was the London fight around the missiles.

Time dilation in SP made me cringe every single time it popped up.

That bit was fun to do again. It felt so mellow compared to how I remembered it! Or compared to say a bad central hack in London in MP!

Also, I forgot to mention the joke when you are going to infiltrate the geth dreadnought; someone (Tali?) asks if you want to solo the mission - aside from missing out on the arc pistol, I'd have been happy to! I practically did anyway.

Not if you were playing either a vanguard or an infiltrator... Then it was a joke too.

PUGs.

I mean, SP squad mates act stupid at times but PUGs put that to a whole new level.

SP's insanity is like MP's silver.

Oh and playing as Shepard is a crutch. He is the most OP guy.

Single Player levels are set up so you'll almost never be flanked unless you choose to charge forward recklessly.  Except for the end and that bit on Grissom.

Also, lots of mooks.  And the ability to pause.

(Though I found doing the first section of Citadel with an Adept really quite difficult on insanity, until I started using the ability to pause again.)

Overall I'd say its closer to bronze (because of the slower pace).

But shepard isn't really OP; the stats are close to vanilla human, just with a wide variety of powers. The SP would be even easier with a GI..

I imagine shepard dropping in on, say Heldarion's GI, offering assitance:

"Apologies Shepard Commander, but this unit does not need any assistance"

while shepard is saying "Holy xxxx you're fighting banshees, pretorians and geth primes ALL AT THE SAME TIME!"

2 teammates that you can semi control versus 3 idiots running around mucking things up. Also generally the power evolutions are stronger for SP characters.

Look at the numbers.

On release, Gold and Insanity had roughly the same numbers across the board - which meant that MP was already more difficult with more enemies, more boss enemies at once, circular maps that allow flanking, and SP cheats like time dilation.

Since then, nearly everything about MP has been rased - enemies have more health and deal greater damage. Interestingly, our damage has gone up significantly, but our health and shields have not budged save for a few exceptions, and these things don't scale at the same rate anyway.

You also have details like more difficult wave compositions in some cases, the new units (Dragoons and Bombers) which really hurt tactics like sit in cover (which is astoundingly viable in SP), and of course the PUG bots not being as useful as Garrus.

BTW with the huge buffs the Javelin has received, your MP Jav II does a ton more damage than a SP Jav X.

@Dunvi: I've not seen the numbers (not even sure how to find them TBH), but this is pretty much how it feels.

So was Gold much easier at release (comparing newbie to newbie; obviously nowadays we have all these UR weapons and fancy weapon mods)?

1.  Enemies in single player often come from only a single direction, and there's usually readily available cover.

2.  There's usually a lot fewer than 8 enemies on the screen at once in single player.

3.  You can "pause" the game to look around and assess the situation any time you want in single player.  You don't have to react instantly and instinctively to every threat.

4.  There are more "boss" enemies in MP, especially on higher levels.

Those are the biggest reasons I can think of.

I feel like most of the difficulty comes from the map styles and versatility. SP was so linear and it was all hard cover. Most MP players rarely use hard cover. Also, shepard has like 8 powers (plus squadmate powers) and the ability to carry up to 5 weapons which allows you to deal with many types of enemies. Also, bosses are relatively rare in SP as compared to MP.

Overall I'd say its closer to bronze (because of the slower pace).

No way, on bronze it will take ages for your shields to go down and get killed. SP Insanity you can still go down in a second with two hits pretty much at times. I'd put it at silver definitely.

Enemies aren't very aggressive in SP, as in they won't corner and gain ground on you, you also don't fight geth much and there is no Collectors. If there were more rocket geth and primes in SP those levels would be harder. Also as others said you can pause the game and utilise ammo powers and squad powers much more effectively. I wish the enemies had more layers of defenses!

I had to go and edit the coalesced.bin file and buff all the non elite enemies by +100% and elites by +50%, that made SP feel much more fun/balanced. There is a lot less elites in MP, especially grouped. I did have elites at +100% but some points in SP where there is mutliple banshees/brutes were pretty much too hard to get down, only a few times that is. But SP insanity they still do high damage, probably equal to gold.

I would say the main reason why the SP is so much easier than the MP is, that enemies won't attack you from all sides, but spawn mainly in front of you.

Addionally, you rarely have to fight large groups of boss-type enemies. Most of the enemies in SP are Reaper or Cerberus which are quiet easy without Dragoons or large group of Phantoms or Banshees.

A lot of SP weapons like the Suppressor or Adas are also extremly overpowered compared to their MP-Version and you can pick from a larger pool of powers when facing enemies.
