"Return to Thedas, the setting of BioWare’s award-winning Dragon Age dark fantasy rpg, and discover what dark, forgotten secrets lurk in the history of the legendary Grey Wardens.

The Grey Wardens are heroes across Thedas once again: the Archdemon has been defeated with relative ease and the scattered darkspawn are being driven back underground.  The Blight is over.  Or so it seems.

Valya, a young elven mage recently recruited into the Wardens, has been tasked with studying the historical record of previous Blights in order to gain insight into newly reported, and disturbing, darkspawn phenomena.  Her research into the Fourth Blight leads her to an encoded reference scrawled in the margins of an ancient map, and to the hidden diary of Issenya, one of the last of the fabled griffon riders.  As the dark secrets buried in Isseyna’s story unfold, Valya begins to question everything she thought she knew about the heroic Grey Wardens… .

A division of Electronic Arts, the world’s leading electronic entertainment publisher, BioWare is the award-winning creator of some of the world’s best-selling video games, including the Baldur’s Gate™ and Neverwinter Nights™ series, Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™ and Mass Effect."

How is no one talking about this? A story with Griffins? So excited!

We've got some threads on this already but they've all been moved to the new Ancillary Products section.

I actually kinda disagree with them all moving though because these new threads will just keep appearing as most users probably don't regularly check down there.

Very true, strongly agree with you there. Plus, I don't think a lot of people know about that section of the forum. The name is also quite... fitting, but not great. Something like "Other media" or "Books/comics" would seem better to me.

Interesting. A story of an elf Warden. I wonder if they're going to reference anything from their "official" canon DAO elf, or try to scoot around that. I'm sort of waiting to see certain "ancillary" products to start officially canonizing things. It seems inevitable.

Oh, well that's a shame. Yeah, I went there once. Didn't feel a place about action figures, etc, was anything of interest. Thought this is appropriate, since it's more about speculation, to me at least.

That's my stance too in addition to the problem of this topic reappearing repeatedly, but the mods seem to disagree. This'll likely get moved later. :P

I'll change the title a bit.

Edit: Done! :P

As a City Elf Warden myself, I'm actually quite happy about the idea of seeing an Elf in the lead. Too often are they simply companions or side characters. I think this is a prequel though, given that it's about the 4th blight. Or at least a story within a story.

Well, if there's going to be a discussion about it, I wonder what dark secret about the Wardens could come out now. I knew they were shady the minute Ser Jory got shanked by Duncan. Talking to Avernus didn't help. The only people who think they are traditional type of heroes are people like Wynne. Who was just an old woman raised in isolation on books and fairy tale.s  DAO already showed us that being a Warden is whatever you make of it. Hero or not. What seems to be emphasized is fighting the blight and protecting the Warden's strength by any means necessary.

I'm almost entirely convinced this is the case of a framing story a la DA2, only less an interrogation and more an investigation, heh. There'll probably be more happening in real-time than occurs in DA2's 9:40 though. It'd be great if the probable Warden companion is introduced in it.

The Wardens started to appear sketchy to me when we got Larius' tale of what happened to Malcom. Then there's Bregan/Geneivieve and their "at all costs" mentality. Kristoff in Warden's Fall doesn't come off as heroic at all to me. Stroud felt detached. For q while, I was on Sophia's side due to Arland's exceptional douchery, but she and Avernus went to the enemy for essentially personal reasons. Alistair and The Warden almost seem to be an exception to the Wardens' general behaviors.

Yeah, Ser Jory getting stabbed to death totally threw me off. I mean, it's not even like he took the oath yet, he should have been able have that out at any time. The weird part is that their ritual is supposed to be a secret, but somehow Queen Anora knew about it when it came to Loghain. Maybe that was just a missed mistake though.

Yeah, I can see that happening too. It's a common narrative style, but it's not a bad thing either. If it ends up being a book with her reading a book, I won't be opposed to it as long as it's done well.

I'll be honest (and selfish) as the creator of the original discovery thread, I don't know how to feel about this.

Tell you what. If Dragon Age has competitive multiplayer, we can battle it out. :P

They've all been fairly enjoyable so far. I got a lot out of reading the World of Thedas. Gorgeous book.

You can technically blame Canada.

Much like BioWare (If Alberta even counts as Canada :P) I'm Canadian, so that doesn't work.
