I personally wish Iron Bull would be a warrior and the Grey Warden a rogue, but that's mostly so we have room for a third, unrevealed warrior. Specifically, Cullen. Or a templar. Any templar.
Otherwise I'm cool with him being a rogue. It's whatever really.

Your gruff, angry, twohandsword-wielding berserker is an elf, your soft spoken, learned, ranged archer-type is a dwarf. I found that pretty swell.
Fair enough, never thought of it that way. For me, Varric fit well in the world and the lore it created. He'd do very well in the courts of Orzamar in largely the same capacity he has on the surface. There's...quite a lot of room for a rogue in the noble families.

Hmm, fair enough. I think we've only got the one dubbed "Sara" left to go among the official ladies there. However, I don't think "Mr. Mustache" there is a companion any more than "Scribe girl" was. I'm hoping that there is another female character that we don't know about yet.

Who, "Mr. Mustache?" Perhaps, but I don't see him as a companion. I think that the Beared Warden ("Hot Daddy Grey Warden" will always be my favorite) is our companion that links the story to the Grey Wardens.
So, we've got Varric, Cassandra, Viveinne, Solas, and Iron Bull confirmed, with Sera and Bearded Warden(I refuse to call him Hot Daddy) all but confirmed. Mr. Mustache is also another likely candidate.
So that's eight. I personally don't believe Cullen or Cole will be in the party, so the ninth spot seems up for grabs at this point. I'm hoping for a fourth female character, myself, but aside from Scribe Girl(who just about everyone seems to agree will be an NPC) there doesn't seem to be an obvious candidate.

I think a Templar will sneak its way into our party, based upon some of that art. That could very well our 9th. Whether or not it's actually Cullen is purely fan speculation, and one I'm very skeptical of. I'd hope for a female Templar for a change. That's what I'd love to see, since I'd like to get to know a fully fledged Templar this time.
I agree about Cole too; while he might play a part in the story somehow, I really don't think he's a part of the nine companions we know about.

I'd like to see someone older, with a solid sense of humor, that doesn't need to be goofy all the time. You can be funny without resorting to that. There is a middle ground between Loghain and Alistair, after all.

He seems a fair bit more boisterous than Loghain, who's humor was more of a dry wit(and he didn't have much of it.)
While I'd certainly like him to be closer to Loghain than Alistair, I think it would be better if he were distinct from either character.
