At this point I think Cullen is unlikely. I think he's most likely an NPC related to the bases. Probably the "military commander", like in that theory thread.

Yes, I agree. So second could be Cole then.

I love the concepts of Cole and Dorian, but I feel bad about the big gender gap that would make.

I still think the second one will be a female companion...

Do I think that would be something that I personally would factor when making these kinds of creative decisions? Probably not, but shrug. I know I'll be chatting those great females up as often as possible, so I won't feel like the game itself is lacking feminine presence at least.

I seriously doubt we'd get 3 mages as BW seems to be against a full mage party for some reason, so I'm thinking the last 2 party members will be a rogue and a warrior. So, we'll most likely end up with 4 warriors, 3 rogues, and 2 mages, OR if you believe Iron Bull's a rogue (like myself), we'll have 3 warriors, 4 rogues, and 2 mages.
Hmm, come to think of it, we've never had a rogue-heavy party before, have we? Let me see...
Rogues: DAO: Leliana, Zevran; DAA: Sigrun, Nathaniel; DA2: Isabela, Varric, Sebastian (DLC)
Warriors: DAO: Alistair, Dog, Oghren, Sten, Loghain (if Alistair leaves your party or is killed), Shale (DLC); DAA: Oghren, Justice; DA2: Aveline, Fenris, Carver (only if you were playing a mage Hawke)
*sigh* It could go either way, really. I'd like to think after already having a Qunari warrior in DAO, we'd get to experience a different class with Iron Bull. *shrug* That's just me.
Whatever happens, it seems unlikely we'll have an even ratio of anything. Ah well. Que Sera, Sera. ![]()

I feel like it really will be 6:3 male:female, and the reason the writers will have decided it's workable is because between Leliana, Morrigan, probably Celene, possibly Justinia, maybe Fiona, maybe Adrian... there are a lot of highly important women up close and center in the main narrative as-is. Perhaps when we tally "really relevant characters" it'll ultimately be a fairly even lineup.

I really don't see Iron Bull being a rogue, if only because he seems to scream; generic big tough warrior. I hope his character is more interesting.

Part of me would be happy because this means Cullen would still be in the realm of possibility (also if Iron Bull is a rogue)
But as much as I love Cullen, balance between classes, races and genders is important to me in a companion roster.

Iron Bull doesn't make sense to me as a rogue. I feel like people just say that because he's a mercenary and they associate that with rogues. Grey Warden makes more sense to be as a rogue than Iron Bull. I really think they're both warriors, though, from what we've seen of them.

Well, balance between races has never happened nor is it really likely to ever happen IMO, but gender and class have come closer and it'd be nice to see that persevere.

IF the two remaining companions will be chosen from those we know of then we'll probably get one of them ![]()
In order to keep the class balance 3/3/3. Its bye bye Cullen and hello Cole as rogue and dramatic hands mustache guy as mage.
If we damn the class balance anything might happen... Ironbull could be rogue for all we know (The Arishok of DA2 was rogue). Cullen could join as the 3rd warrior and Cole as a mage. We don't even know Cole's class as he could be both rogue or mage.

And I've heard it said the only reason the Arishok was coded a rogue was because that was the only way it recognized dual-wielding, but he was essentially a warrior through and through. But that debate sounds outside my pay grade.
I do dig the theory of Cullen being an important non-playable general in the Inquisition too though. That'd be cool instead for him.

Well, the marketing survey described Cole as a dagger-wielding rogue, so that may well come to pass.

Well as far as I know the Qunari don't "sneak around". They hire agents from other races for that such as Tallis. So it makes sense that their rogues are identical with their warriors.
We never had "spirit rogue" or a rogue with magical abilities. It'll be nice to get one. Cole fits it perfectly.
I'm more concerned about class balance to be honest. I want 3 mages ![]()

Personally, I think the 3/3/3 distribution is more likely this time because they said before that there would be certain actions you needed different classes to deal with. It seems like they designed a system specifically to encourage people to evenly distribute their party. If that's the intent, you'd think they'd evenly distribute the available classes as much as possible.

So far though, I am pretty excited about the companion roster! I had a potential companion wishlist I posted in the HUGE feedback thread Mark Darrah opened when the announcement was made that DA2's expansion had been canceled in favor of beginning work on the next game. Cassandra and Cullen were at the top, and now Cassandra's in (there was never really a doubt in my mind that she would be) I wanted a mage with investment in the Circle system and ties to the politics/hierarchy within, and we got Vivienne. I wanted a Tal-Vashoth, and we got Iron Bull.
Honestly the only companions I'm not psyched about are Varric and Sera. I LOVE Varric, he was hands-down my favorite companion in DA2; it felt wrong to not have him in my party at all times. I'm not a fan of recurring companions when there are so many interesting characters out there to meet. Sera, meanwhile, feels way too familiar. Leliana and Tallis existing in the same universe is bad enough, do we REALLY need another fiesty female rogue?
Blah, I should stop complaining.

Even thought I liked Varric's personality in DA2, I also basically feel like he and Sera have the weakest concepts going in. It just seems like they have the least to add to the story, from what we know about them.

Varric was my favorite in DA2 as well. The precedence for no recurring characters in this series does make the addition of Varric in Inquisition feel a little odd, but on the other hand, assuming his character hasn't changed much, I know there's at least one character among the companions that I will love to have around.
