One of the complaints with Mass Effect 2 was that the some of the squadmates didn't wear armor. While that is a bit nitpicky as unarmored companions are hardly game-breaking, it is easier to suspend disbelief when you've don't have characters with exposed skin going into the vacuum of space or other hostile enviroments, not to mention combat. This was largely addressed in Mass Effect 3 where all of the companions had at least one (if not more) alternative outfits that were armored, however Javik and Liara did not have helmets for their armor sets. Instead in hostile enviroments they were shown with breath masks.

In the next game I would hope to see Bioware continue improving in that area, by giving all the companions at least one set of proper armor with a helmet. While the lack of armor or helmets isn't necessarily a major issue, their inclusion would help to add to the atmosphere of the game and help the player to suspend disbelief. Also, it just looks cool.   B)

Yes.

But don't make them wear helmets all the time

This also. The on/off toggle for helmets that was present in previous games should return.

Funny thing, though:  ME1 had full hardsuits and helmets for all companions.  So I wouldn't say ME3 "fixed" a complaint about ME2 so much as went a long way towards fixing what ME2 broke in the first place.

I don't think it was as clear cut as ME2 'breaking' something ME1 did well however. While in Mass Effect 1 every character had a hardsuit with an optional helmet (except for Tali of course, whose helmet was mandatory), there was very little variety at all between different armors. They were mostly identical and the differences were primarily in color scheme. I think ME2 and ME3 had the right idea in giving squadmates a more unique look, it just dropped the ball a bit in not giving them all at least one proper hardsuit with a helmet.

I didn't say they did it "well".  I mean, yeah some of those patterns and colors were fuggly (I tended to stick to armors like Onyx that were all mostly a uniform color).  But they were undoubtably hardsuits and helmets.

ME2 threw away suits along with color schemes, to laughable results.

Bring back the squadmate hardsuits and make them just as customizable.

Jack especially could be ridiculous. I don't care how awesome your biotics are, you need a spacesuit to survive in space.

Just don't make helmets that completely obscure the faces though. Also, "boobed" armor is, in reality, a bad idea. It looks cool, but is totally counterproductive from a protection standpoint. The purpose of armor is to dissipate the force that hits it and spread it out evenly so that it doesn't damage the body underneath (too much). If your armor is bubbled, this does not happen - in fact, quite the opposite. The force will, instead of dissipating, be focused through the parts that do touch the body, causing the very injuries that it's meant to avoid. Especially if there's a ridge in between the boobs, that will break your sternum and crush your chest faster than an unprotected blow.

But of course, proper flat armor (as boobs can be pretty painlessly squished flat, unless they're "augmented", although I don't know the details of asari boobs) doesn't look nearly as sexy, which is of course much more important to the menfolk who design these games. :)

Well it not really all that jarring really, even with only breathing mask, they'd still ha e active Shields and Barriers for protection

Thus even in hazardous environments they'd be relatively fine unless under fire.

Shields are not EVA suits.

And that whole "Barriers protect against vacuum, radiation, high/low temperature, so why should Biotics have hardsuits," is a good example of bad writing.

Especially when the writing already refutes that

From eeh codex:

Kinetic barriers, colloquially called "shields", provide protection against most mass accelerator weapons. Whether on a starship or a soldier's suit of armor, the basic principle remains the same.

Kinetic barriers are repulsive mass effect fields projected from tiny emitters. These shields safely deflect small objects traveling at rapid velocities. This affords protection from bullets and other dangerous projectiles, but still allows the user to sit down without knocking away their chair.

The shielding afforded by kinetic barriers does not protect against extremes of temperature, toxins, or radiation.

Danke.

According to the internal rules of the Mass Effect Universe, Ashley should have been dead the second she entered the Geth Yamato if she wore her uniform with breathing mask.

Inconsistent writing is inconsistent.

Here's hoping to a wider selection of armour for companions.

Yes kill those stupid beathing masks or make them all explode in space BW! Really! Who thought THAT was a great idea!

Designer 1: Hey Desiger team wouldn't it be great if Mordin, Samara, Thane, Jack and others got breathing maks? I mean we can show off their cool clothing while in space, marvel at their lack of battle ready attire, and kill at least half the Quarians on the flotilla due to their skin and hair being able to shead inside their enviroment!

Designer team: That's great! Less cost and they'll look so faboulous!

Also while we're on the subject of rediculousness no more navel V armor, cat suits, bra straps, and well you know the drill make them wear battle ready armor when in missions including flat soles/boots, make them have some healthy casual wear that isn't going to case issues with their fellow crew mates (hi Jack) and if for some reason BW you needs sexy impracticale armor and clothing either craft a mission for it (hero (or crewmate) goes to strip joint but has to be a striper to lure enemy) or make that available for citidel instore purchase only so players decide if that impracticle stuff is on their own ships. Definitly avoid it for main outfits we meet them in and casual lounging.
