Believe? I don't think so.

Intrigued? Sure. While people always say the extended cut disproves IT, I continue to be fascinated by the Leviathan DLC's mirroring of the decision chamber. In Leviathan, the meeting takes place in Shep's head. But yet it's outside the realm of probability that the decision chamber is also occurring in Shep's head?

I...don't know.

At the very least, I enjoy the conversation. And, unlike many threads, IT spurs actual conversation. So even if I don't agree with it, it's fun to speculate.

I'll never understand the almost violent reaction it inspires in many people on this board.

Agreed.

I think that Mass Effect Andromeda may perhaps provide clarity on whatever did occur right after the battle at Earth and the activation of the Crusible. This should put all theories and speculation to rest....or not.

Maybe.

I think, personally, that if they answer stuff:

1)They won't answer 'everything' from the trilogy..

2)A whole theme of the next game might be something like 'mystery' (to match with 'exploration') so don't look to know everything there is to know - not when layers of new story content is added

I am thinking that a simple Codex entry in ME:A would suffice. Not unlike the Battle of the Citadel (2183) entry.

If we will be able to import our savegames into Andromeda, since we will be in a different galaxy, the only possible effect this would have on the game would be a few lines of text concerning the story's background. If the ending choice alters the backround story in the afforementioned theoretical Codex entry, then this would serve as a final tombstone on the IT.

Yep.  It's called foreshadowing (in retrospect.... thanks Bioware DLC makers)

Leviathan even admits that the reapers have taken 'their' abilities and refined them.  Yeah like it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that the final 30 minutes to an hour of the game could just be a mindf..k.

Well Done Bioware.

As in topic. After the dust has settled and the last DLC is in the can, do people still believe the ending to ME3 was a hallucination cooked up by Shepard's indoctrination? Just curious.

For all the heated and angry debate it gets Bioware might have served it's fan base better by omitting the concept from the game. The game is essential the same without it if we never have to confront it.

Shoot a lot of peoples, hook up with a few other people, make "decisions."

Indoctrination is very pointless to these ends. But they insisted over the course of three games to drum on about it, build a theme around it and foreshadow it. And here we are acting all surprised players pick up on it.

Amongst here its all either a wasted effort or a creative flop. But as it's built into the game anyone should hardly believe it will die.

By " greatest" do you mean "least popular"?

Jeez.... no way I'm going back to a 2014 post to figure out what I was talking about.

Was it BioWare's secret agenda? Nah. But I still do like it, I just headcanon it. I either go with that, or those MEHEM videos.

I feel that whole idea is better than the official story, and in the context of the game, taking out developer "word of God", it looks like a possibility. But overall, it's just some good fan fiction that took off. I think I prefer the MEHEMs more though. There you can literally craft your own ending. Which is what we all wanted.

I never believed in it, but I wanted to believe in it.  I really, really did.  It could have been so good.  I said it then and I will say it now, I would not have minded paying a little extra money for a DLC that went with the Indoctrination Theory and gave us an entirely new ending sequence.  Yes, it would have meant that they sold us a game without an actual ending, but it would have been such a brilliantly clever idea that they would have deserved a little extra money.
