Yeah...I never played any of the Mass Effect games, but listening to other people, it sounds like Bioware has done non-follower romances before? And the only person who has "confirmed" that Cullen is a companion is Greg Ellis, who then clarified that he had not realized what a fan had meant by "companion."

 

And to take it one step further, Greg Ellis didn't "confirm" that Cullen is a companion, he "confirmed" that there was "romance and companionship" with Cullen.  So not only did he not know what "companion" meant in this context, but that wasn't even the word that he confirmed.

Cullen almost can't be a companion. Devs confirmed 3/3/3 at PAX. Cassandra and Iron Bull are confirmed. Grey Warden was used to showcase companion customization. So I would be absolutely shocked if he wasn't in. So it's far more likely Cullen is an NPC romance. As some who greatly enjoyed Sam and Steve, I have no problem with this.

How else do you interpret "even spread" if there are 9 companions and 3 classes?  4/3/2 is a distinctly "uneven" spread given that there would be twice as many warriors as rogues.  I know that he never said 3/3/3, but it's really hard to figure out anything other than 3/3/3 given the context of the statement.

 

And, just because in the past games there haven't been NPC romances, doesn't mean it can't happen in this game.  ME history dictated that LIs were squadmembers only after the first two games (Kelly doesn't count because she didn't unlock the paramour achievement), but in ME 3, they changed that.  It's not out of the realm of possibility that it could happen here too.  Saying he's an LI isn't as compelling evidence for his being a companion as it would have been 2 years ago.

i dont think cullen  is a companion there are certian aspects of mass effect 3 that the da team were impressed by such as the s/s only npcs like Lieutenant Cortez  & samantha traynor. im not saying cullen will be gay only but maybe a romancible npc.

 

edit although in DA:O cullen was deeply in love with the mage charecter (female as far as i know) so be interesting how he got over it.

I thought they addressed what happened to every other origin. Mainly that they died.

Cartless Dwarf is dead, Dwarf Noble is presumed dead, Human noble is presumed dead, Dalish elf is dead, City elf is presumed dead (either of plague, blood mage, or by human hand), Mage is presumed dead by Aeonar or demonic activity.

For sure the Castless Dwarf is dead, as we found the body. And the Dalish elf would have become a ghoul without Grey Warden intervention. The rest, I suppose, could be alive somewhere. If we were to find non-Warden Amell/Surana, I'd bet they'd be in Aeonar.

I like to think (delude myself, maybe) that Amell/Surana was able to have the good sense to tell Jowan, "NO!" It pissed me off that when I would suggest, "Hey, instead of skulking around and lying to everyone, given what's at stake here, let's just talk to Irving," he would respond with, "No, Lily would get in trouble for finding out about it!"

 

Oh, okay. So I should defy Chantry law and risk being made Tranquil/being sent to Aeonar for assisting an apprentice in becoming an apostate, so your girlfriend (who never should have gotten involved with you in the first place) won't get a reprimand or punishment for sneaking a peek at Greagoir's desk. Gotcha.
