The issue isn't "we didn't get enough information, we want more, more, more!" The issue is that we were told something was going to happen on a consistent basis and that didn't happen, and we were just left hanging.

I don't think anyone is ungrateful for the trailer and the website and the interviews that have come out in magazines this past week. I'm certainly not unappreciative of this. But when you say you're going to do something every month, I think the fans have a reasonable expectation that you're going to live up to your word. The deal was "a new follower every month", not "a new follower every month, except on when the week we should post info about a follower, we have a big info dump in other areas."

We had no reason to believe that the trailer and website meant we weren't getting a follower friday reveal, and we should have been told.

But people have clearly been blowing this ENTIRE thing way out of proportion. They're been screams of laziness, developers being disrespectful/rude/disgusting/etc and how they're now going to cancel pre-orders because it screams that the game won't come out on October 7th. It just seems like a hold over from last week sprinkled with people feeling that they've wasted their day. Which is fine, I GET THAT, but it's something that could have been said, even complained about and been done. But for hours/days we've sat here arguing over how the devs are liars or lazy or incompetent and when we're given a legitimate reason as to why it didn't come we still don't accept it.

And we were told, long before the end of the day that we wouldn't get one. Look at Mark Darrah's twitter, David told us he's still working on it (as we speak) AND the Dragon Age guys have been more than open with why they couldn't do it. They're not being obtuse, they're not being vague and they haven't been rude by blaming us for waiting for something.

Sorry if I'm being overly emotional about this, but I just feel like it's becoming an old hat. We had this awesome trailer and yet people are arguing about entitlement vs apologists and it's just irritating.

As one of the people who's been taking this very seriously, I can actually agree with you on this up to a point.

For me, it's just because on a personal level I consider holding to your word to still be a big deal. I do think that Bioware's handled the fallout rather well, I just think they should have been preemptive about it.

Well as long as we have a voice on the internet flame wars are never going to stop. Yea, you can derail it and monitor it but ultimately can't stop it. Besides, after the Mass Effect 3 ending Flame Wars BioWare should be used to this by now. I call it tough love but that's also a controversial statement.

Or Bioware could start ignoring the fanbase like Capcom did.

Well that didn't happen.

Honestly, this is just bad business. They committed to doing this on a monthly basis, specifically told us we were going to be getting someone for April, didn't follow through, and now they're apparently trying to play it off with a laugh.

When you say you're going to do something, you're giving your word. And when you give your word you either follow through or you let the other person know you won't be able to because of extenuating circumstance.

I can forgive them not doing it this week or last week because of the flood of information we had this week, but they should have told us they weren't going to do it because of that information.

And honestly, how hard is it to put up a damn screen shot?

I agree.

There's hyperbole on both sides in the threads about this, but this is what it comes down to for me, and you can make of it what you will:

1)It is called Follower Friday. People wait until the last Friday, without anything.

Bad.

2)Bioware goes on DA:I marketing binge. Big trailer, many interviews released, and we get to see all the major allied figures for the Inquisition together.

Good.

3)Bioware neglects to notify people that there will not be a Follower Friday. Last week would have been ideal. This week would have been okayish. Wednesday-Thursday would have been tolerable. None of this happened, and people were still waiting for it. Weak communication.

Bad.

4)When asked about it on Twitter, the Davids seem to respond casually, seemingly not taking into account that the 'no FF' isn't the bigger issue, but the lack of good communication and weakening of trust. While it is good they answered that there was no FF, it should never have taken this long, and it was only through the personal Twitter channel. Not really their fault, but this also doesn't help much.

Bad.

5)Mark Darrah remarks on Twitter than they're 'revamping their communication plan', whatever that means. At the very least, it means that we've been heard loud and clear, and they are either taking action about it, or pretending to (I'll try to assume the former).

Good.

I'm one to actually go easier on Bioware for a lot of things. Hell, I want to work there, and think much better of them than most online commenters. But they should at least be reminded of the types of things that add up to lack of consumer goodwill. This FF thing by itself is barely anything - but it may be remembered by enough people, along with whatever other future and past issues people have, that it becomes part of something that matters.

So for myself, the only thing that I'm disliking here is their marketing. And no surprise there. I haven't loved Bioware's marketing since Mass Effect 2 (sooo goooood imo) and Dragon Age: Origins (no issues).

DA2 and ME3's made me frequently inwardly cringe (who can forget the Button Awesome and Bioware Pulse), and while DA:I's seems improved compared to recent examples, I just can't be surprised at there being at least minor flubs.

But now's the time to chill and see what'll be done. Mark used good wording for 'communication plan', so I easily forgive them for this, as long as they actually don't go directly against their word again til' October.

They're also gearing up for a DAI [and new IP?] play test weekend in Burnaby, B.C. May 4.  (city is east of Vancouver).

http://forum.bioware...ing-burnaby-bc/

My guess would be the Community Coordinator, who you would think would normally be in charge of letting BSN peoples know if FF was being put off,  is playing a key role in this, and may just have run out of time and energy. I imagine everyone is putting in tons of OT.

Or maybe they just hate you.

I'm happy that they acknowledged the communication issue and I'm not really mad about the situation, but I hope in the near future they tell us what we should expect. Will they just be skipping April and we'll get a Follower Friday at the end of May? Are they still considering next week for Follower Friday with another at the end of May? Since the plan has changed from the original schedule, it would be nice if we could get an update. If the answer is actually that they don't know when they can fit in another Follower Friday with the coming major marketing push, then I can accept that, but it would be nice to at least know what's going on.

Where I come from, saying you'll do something and then not doing it is generally considered poor form. But that's just me. This is nothing new in marketing, sadly.

That being said, it doesn't change the fact that I fully intend to play the game anyway.

OK. I'm sorry but I have to step in and say something about "they" threatening to cancel pre-orders.

From what I saw on Twitter - there was no "they". There was just one girl. And from what I saw from that one girl, she didn't say she would cancel her pre-order. She (LIGHTHEARTEDLY) said something along the lines of, "Well shoot, I'd threaten not to buy the game but I already pre-ordered!" Which was a VERY OBVIOUS JOKE.

And I know that same girl was posting in this thread. So... if she's reading this: Hey. I got the joke.

Sorry but I had to clear this up. It is making a GIANT mountain out of the teeniest of molehills.

It hasn't just been just the twitter thread or even on the BSN (or rather BF) not that I was talking about the girl I think you were talking about or anyone in the twitter thread/this site at all. I try not to generalize based on JUST one person either...so yeah don't know why you assumed I was singling someone out

I do not understand why devs not just load their savegame, turn game into low-medium quality(so PS and XBOX players will not whine what their platforms are worst than PC) and make some screenshots with companions and show them to people with ~10-30 words about companion.

no srly, this is ~5 minute work and we must wait for this each month

I would've liked to see Follower Friday too. I imagine Bioware's thinking was less "They've had their fill for this month, so there", and closer to "We can postpone Follower Friday and keep a steady trickle of information going, to maintain interest in the lead-up to release".

Still, it would've been nice if they'd said something.

Well, maybe they'll change the dates. Instead of Follower Friday being on the last Friday of the month, maybe it can be on the first Friday of the month. Then that way the whole month is for that one particular follower.

That being said, I doubt that they're going to do that. :P

That's a terrible idea. The fans would keep clamoring for more information almost immediately and they would have nothing else they could give.

I like to think BSN is one of those brighter spots in cyberspace. If the OP said FF would be a pic and a few words about a companion, we would be totally cool with it. Hell, we were with the first FF. As people pointed out, a screenshot and 30 words isn't much and it's not even about that. It's that something was announced and then when the second FF was coming up, nothing happened. Why start it if you're going to drop it like that?

Anyway, I'll wait for E3. With about half a year left to release, we're pretty much guaranteed to get an infodump halfway through that six-month wait to keep the interest up. Not BSN's interest - we all know we'd religiously count days until Oct 7th without any marketing stuff needed to keep us pumped up for the game, it's for all those still unenlightened not on BSN.

Because the initial posts bringing this up have been buried:

Follower Friday did not happen this week due to craziness and miscommunications associated with the huge reveals that DID happen this past week.

Yes, we're pretty much all agreed that BioWare should have tossed out a post here saying that it was cancelled.

BioWare has acknowledged communications could have been handled better.

So, please, lets not be all crazy about this.

As people have said, they aren't ungrateful for the huge amount of stuff. They are upset because Bioware told them something, and they didn't do it. Several people spent hours sitting at the computer waiting only for nothing to happen, in essence wasting a large part of their Friday/Saturday. And for something that could have been fixed with a less than a minute to write tweet about there being no FF this month, that's plenty of reason to be upset.
