The pitch option in SR 4 sounded okay upto 50% either side. It's not going to sound perfectly natural but I was able to play with the modded voice without any problems.

That can't be true. The fact, that you 'was able to play' something does not change the way sound processing works. Yes, it IS possible to modify the voice and keep it more or less natural, but as I said - it takes a lot of manual tweaking, not just running a file through the filter. And here we're going to deal with the compressed audio. Such things are good for parties, but not so much for anything serious.

I changed my characters voice by only around 5% and it had a synthesized sound that made me crazy so I changed it.

You can't pick a male voice when playing a female character (kinda obvious, but apparently one of the Journalist asked ; P)

That's not obvious at all.  That's a feature I have specifically requested.

I get why they don't support it - the lines likely differ slightly by gender, and it would cost money to do the extra recording for a feature few people would use - but it's still one I'd like.

The so-called "Revan"-persona from SW:TOR, eh?

They do Hawke and the Warden in that style, I'd actually be fine-ish with that. Since the way Revan was set up - insane isolated maniac -, I had little trouble dismissing that fellow as the poor fake he is.

Doesn't mean that clearing up the question of both Hawke's and the Warden's disapperance cannot be solved without shoving such an encounter into the game, in ways which would be acceptable-to-tolerable for all parties involved.

Given that DA:O had mod-support and that feature still is actively perused to this day, isn't it still more than a little back-handed move on BW's end to invalidate something as basic and crucial to people as their PC's appearance in later sequels (and not due to putting a few creases on them)?

The questionable purpose of the former PC's appearance has been pointed out, as well, and that has got to do with more things than just their complexion, hair-style and eye-colour.

as far as his emancipated, sickly look.  he had spent years as a prisoner in a basement, then hundreds of years trapped in a stasis field as the Emperor sucked on his life force like a leach.

In a personal comment, Jan Gebauer (the managing editor) says that there was a time when he bought Bioware games unseen, and that credit had been almost completely squandered with DA2 and ME3, but from what they've seen of DAI, those times may come again with DAI. Since this echoes my feelings about DA2 and ME3 (some qualities of those games notwithstanding), this makes me rather confident about DAI.

Ugh, this guy sounds like your typical raging DA:O fanboy douche. I'm glad other people are kind enough to read and translate the article for us ;) so I don't have to deal with this guy dissing two of my favorite games left and right, sheesh.

Thanks Ieldra for the info! :wizard:

LOL!! Well okay different but not ridiculous.

For DAO I always go with the first voice option, "wise." I find the others really grating. Especially "sultry." YUCK!

Can I get you a ladder...

I think that's the "violent" voice for male elves.

It's the voice I use  ^_^ I loves it.

Then they better be ready for people to complain, for good reasons.

"Help I altered the game in a way the devs never planned for or should have to anticipate, why won't bioware pander to me?" Seriously, former PC's being changed, thats a valid complaint. But if you alter them outside of the game's paramaters, why on earth would you think that's going to affect how they are handled later? (With genuine curiosity)

If it is correct that we have two voice actors to choose from for each gender I am quite happy. The voice actor is something that sticks with you for the entire game and having one that you don't like can be very irritating. Getting to choose from two minimises that chance quite a bit, I think its quite a benefit even if you were only going to have one race. I'm wondering whether we have to choose at character creation or can change on the fly?

I think it won't take too long for a save editor to appear. It's just a variable stored in your save file, it should not be hard to change that.

You know, Bioware has a track record for making "the chosen one". You were a Bhaalspawn and can literally become a god in BG. You were the super special Revan in Kotor. You were the last spirit monk, and once again can become a god, in Jade Empire.

Everyone went on about how Shepard was super special, the warden was one of the last two that could stop the blight in Ferelden and Sonic is the fastest thing alive. The only real departure from the special one trope is Neverwinter Nights and DA2.

You are wrong about Revan. He was never a demigod or chosen one. He was just one of the more powerful jedi who fell under the sith influence. Yes he destroyed and redeemed the galaxy, but his character actualy has flaws and weaknesses, unlike most of the other characters that are near perfect.

The Bhaalspawn and the Warden can definitely have flaws and weaknesses too - depends entirely on how you play them.

(I have no idea if this is also true for the last spirit monk and Shepherd, as I only just started playing Mass Effect and haven't got to Jade Empire yet.)

So it was pure coincidence that the amnesia riddled Revan takes down their once partner and friend Malak and reclaim the star forge that Revan found? He just happened to be the person that established the current sith empire, no biggie. Come on, Revan was an extremely special snowflake.

What characters are there that are near perfect as compared to Revan btw?

That's not a coincidence, that's the way jedi masters had set it all up. It all makes sense.

Revan is one of the most unusual and unique characters I've ever had. But I don't think it's a right place to discuss Revan here, mostly because some people are yet to play KOTOR1.

I can only repeat, that  'canon Revan' was not inevitable at all, and were they willing to play it differently - they'd have done so. It's possible, it has nothing to do with MMOness and lack of direct import. As I said- it's entirely possible to create the illusion of the 'unique&persistent' world. There were dozens of ways to avoid picturing Exile and Revan in SWTOR.

Well, you may have liked the result, but it is a fact that for ME3, Bioware sacrificed roleplaying to make the game feel more like a movie (don't say this didn't happen, they admitted it) while DA2 is fairly good in roleplaying but suffered from cookie-cutter combat encounters, recycled dungeons and several added restrictions in things we could and couldn't do, like influence our companions' look. Like it or not, for those of us who liked the comparative freedom of the older games, this resulted in a feeling of cumulative constraint. Some of the qualities the newer games admittedly have came at a high cost in player agency, and some players feel that Bioware sacrificed too much. That is the sentiment expressed in Jan Gebauer's comment, and I fully agree with it.

After he regains his memories it makes sense that he goes after Malak, because that's what Jedi/Sith do. Revan never fought with any demi-god or even god type characters like Bhaalspawn, Spirit Monk, Shepard and Warden did. Malak was pretty much on the same level as he was, as was every other enemy he encountered. Hell, he tried to kill the emperor twice and failed.

My point is, Revan is not even close to being a demigod, chosen one or whatever you want to call him. He is a force user that mastered both Light and Dark.

Don't all the voices say that?

I actually had a problem with the battle shouts as my mild mannered Lady Cousland started cackling about massacring her enemies... It was both hilarious and offputting.

I'm not sure, but I just haven't heard it for some time.since I haven't touched Origins since who-knows-when.

I used to be so particular that I had to change voices if one sounded off or said things I didn't like.  I'm pretty sure they had different phrases, even if some may have been common.  I can't say for sure, though.

No, it was just the Violent voice. On the elf it was Yuri Lowenthal that said it.
