He also mentions Minsc, Jan Jansen and HK-47 as good companions.
Minsc was VERY overrated, imo...so, probably that's a good thing that this guy did not like Varric. ))

Jan Jansen was awesome though. To this day I still can't play a solo run because I just have to recruit him and hear/read his lines.
I can't say anything on HK-47 since I still have to finish KoTOR. Minsc was ok for the first playthrough, then it got old.
Varric is my Jan Jansen for dragon age2, I can't make a party that doesn't include him. ![]()
Was Gebauer talking about them in the demo or about how they were in DA2?
I don´t know but i think more about the demo.
People are allowed to form their own opinions you know. I didn't like him much either.
Yes that i would be fine with that but he mentions also Garrus as a good companion.
So why is Garrus is an interesting follower and Varric not?
Sorry that makes no sense for me. The whole article has the tone if DA 2 was a bad game.
Yeah sure.
Why did they rated DA 2 with 87% from 100%?
About companions , errr...at this point we can't say if they're going to be well written , interesting etc...
You'd need to , you know play the game , and then review it.
Besides everyone has their favorite ones anyway so it's one of those thing hard to judge.
And the whole companions thingie is one of Bioware trademark , even in ME when sometimes I felt the overall story was kinda weak , plots with followers were mostly well done.
Besides there's companions who have some big story going on (Morrigan , Anders , Alistair etc...) and companions adding flavor to the game and not pushing any major plot forward ( Sten , Varric , Oghren ,Fenris etc...).
Morrigan's story is way more interesting than Varric's ,but Varric is funnier to have around , Imho.
So the it is officially out. Could someone please make a summary of the full preview?
I would really appreciate that ![]()
so isn't the full article out today?
If player customization of previous protagonists is available at all, I wager it would be relegated to optional Keep content.
Having that pop up in the beginning of Inquisition itself would be a big no-no as far as maintaining new player accessibility 101 is concerned.
"What do these two people look like?"
"How the hell should I know?"
Oh hey, just notcied this:
This picture is in the fade. Notice those things in the left corner? The red lyrium-like stuff?
Well

Sorry. But Varric is big story. First he is the narrator of the story and when he is part of Deep Road Expedition.
Act 1 was Varrics act in my opinion.

Yes its out. But i think that we have all of the infos already in this thread. ![]()
What? Boo is outraged! See his fury! It's small, so look close. Trust me, it's there.
Had he not been forced as a 'canon-BG1-party-member' in BG2, I could've given him more luv...probably. But imo, 'fofun' characters get old very quickly.
Eg Varric had just the right amount of Bianca in DA2, it was his 'feature', but it did not annoy.
Morrigan will make an appearance but won't be a party member. The same goes for Hawke and the Warden.
Im not quite sure if I trust the last bit of info there but that's what the article says. ; )
No!!
Man, people are so very divisive about that.
People don't want to see their characters wrecked. It's a very understandable sentiment. One I share.
No!!
Don´t worry that is a misunderstanding.
The article says:"what about Morrigan ? The witch will appear in Inquisition, but she won´t be a playable group-member. The same is true for Hawke and the Grey Warden from Origins"
The same only refers to being a party member. Hawke might show up wearing a helmet since he/she does have a voice and can wear a helmet, but the warden does not even have that and a cameo would require to be a silent, completely covered figure and that does not seem worth the trouble.

Or they could just let you recreate their faces in that whatever-thing-that's-replacing-the-import-system. Seems like an acceptable compromise. And I seriously like to give people the benefit of the doubt in that they would not completely lose their **** if their Warden suddenly had a voice they did not specifically approve of.

DG has said before that they'll use Hawke and the Warden as they see fit (which doesn't confirm their appearance at all) to strengthen the story. They might have something in mind for them that we don't expect yet, not just a fanservice "hi, remember me? I'm the vague representation of your Warden" but something that actually ties into the story itself. Consider that the Warden and Hawke were both agents of Flemeth at some point. I'd be interested to see the characters to show up in connection to that, or something else clever that I'm sure DG has up his sleeve.
I can see how people would get upset if the Warden and Hawke only make pointless cameos just to say "Hi, I hear you're going to save the world. We used to be important too, you know?" but if they're integrated into the story, they're being used as characters and tools to advance the narrative. That seems like a positive thing to me.

If what you quoted is the most accurate translation, "the same" refers to both the Warden and Hawke appearing in Inquisition as well as not being party members. Why would they mention only the fact that they would not be your party members if they have no intention of bringing them into the game.
Make your peace my friends, you will see the twisted faces of your Hawkes and Wardens whether you like it or not.
Take note that even if the translation is right, there might have easily been misinterpretation between the journalist and the dev(s) over the spoken subject. I'm pretty sure it was a misrepresentation or something along those lines.
But that's mostly because I don't want my precious former-protagonists to appear in DA:I.

For all we know once we get into the character creator in game, it might ask "Would you now like to design and create the Warden and Hawke? or use their default appearance?"
I mean I doubt it, but its one way around the issue
