The fade opening mechanic sounds interesting but seems to completely contradict the idea of fighting to close the fade tears. I'm also not sure I want my rogue or warrior Inquisitor having control over the fade. I'll have to wait and see how this is explained.

There are very likely more English sources and previews coming this week.

The German magazine published their preview first and everyone is freaking out about new information, but there were many journalists at the preview events, and the embargo on their stories will end at some point.

So... I'd wait until we have sources in other languages before speculating this much.

They have said that one of their maps is larger than all DA 2. They haven't named the map.

As far as I know, Val Royeaux has not been confirmed as a hub.

This is exactly what I was saying until last week, then a couple of people told me it was Crestwood which was named, and that it isn't even the biggest.

Man, I don't know what to believe anymore. So I'm just gonna carry on with my predictions for now, which include but are not limited to:

Keeps as hubs; other settlements will be segmented and nowhere near as expansive as Kirkwall;

Game's big, yo.

Some small tidbits I managed to scavenge from someone at tumblr who had translated the article.

  • Laidlaw says most areas are roughly three times the size of the korcari wilds from DA: O

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that area being quite small, actually.

I think we knew for a long time the Quiz is the Quiz because he was the only one who could close the Tears.

I'm just hoping the fact that he's the only one who can do so doesn't mean all he has to do, to do so, is go up to the Tear and chant "Close, sesame!"

The task should be a bit more challenging than that.  :)

If the Veil Tears are something like or akin to Oblivion's Gates of Hell (Oblivion Gates) maybe the journalists misunderstood? As far as I remember, in Oblivion, we would have to open the Oblivion Gates in order to close them. And maybe, just maybe, there will be something similar happening in DA: Inq?  As for the whole 'able to summmoning demon' information, does this not remind anyone of D&D? where mages had the ability to summon cacofiends, and other demons from the planes of hell...

And lastly - just a thank you to the OP for finding this :)

Crestwood is the area that's bigger than all of DA2 combined but it's considered one of the medium sized maps, the western approach is many times bigger than that and still isn't one of the bigger areas in DAI, it was stated in the demo and the kotaku article the new dragon age is crazy ambitious. They haven't said anything about Val Royueax yet or the amount of cities and nation we're going to besides what they've confirmed so far.

As for the cities thing someone pointed at that voraussichtlich means presumably in the Twitter thread, so I would wait until the English translation before jumping to cconclusions since we've likely seen various cities already, a dwarven settlement or a couple of them, and we are going to various nations so i'm kinda skeptical on that part.

Hmm so the article confirms the warden and hawke, that actually makes sense with a lot of things Gaider said about this like the fact they may use them in some way, or when we told us that we should accept the fact they may show up in DAI beyond a cameo role if they felt it made the story and game better as a whole, that they made a decision and an odd tweet by Gaider that basically said Nyah Nyah headcanon which reminded me of the song.

Anyway I think i'll wait for the translations to see ifit's confirmed, though if so I wonder how much control over their physical appearance we'll have and how they'll do that considering Gaider said that ideally that should be under our control though it's unknown how they'll do so considering the fact they said that the keep isn't a character generator though they do have some options for them or they could have them stay in full armour.

The part of the inquisitor making rifts does make some sense considering that we were at ground zero and survived due to something that made us special orthey're mistaken and meant only we can close them but the demon summoning thing is probably just for mages, i'll take this with a grain of salt aswell though it makes sense.

So both the iron bull and the female archer are semi confirmed, that's interesting and so far my speculation is paying off if they're both in and i'm verry interested in both of them and Solas seems interesting .

On the cities part..... I'm with Jeff, though I think it's more than likely we'll see a Val Royeaux within the game.

I recall reading something from Gaider in which he said they would only actually show Hawke and the Warden if it could be done just right, because if they didn't feel like they could nail it for as many players as possible, there'd be a far louder outcry of anger about screwing it up than there would be praise over attempting. I think I got entirely too wordy in that paraphrasing, but it's something along those lines. From years ago. I'm a very recent DA convert but I spend time mulling over old exchanges playing catch-up. :P

What I'm guessing (wildly speculating, really) is that with the Dragon Age Keep it's been decided there'll be enough customization involved in the two of them that it's worth the shot.

Or maybe the journalist just completely misunderstood and neither of them will actually appear in-game. This is really important to keep in mind.

Yeah, parts of it at least could serve as a kind of secondary hub, what with contacts like Leliana and Morrigan probably chilling there. Unless it, y'know, explodes.

Being able to summon demons from the fade and being able to choose a voice for our PC is exciting news! Solas has a name now and we received just a snippet of info on him and Iron Bull. Very cool. :)

There is no reason why we can't customise their appearance in the game itself.

And I thought it said there were two voices for each gender? Meaning males have two voices to choose from, likewise for females. So your Dalish may have an accent after all.

I think you and everyone else should at least consider the possibility that Bioware will just give them random faces. I know a lot of people won't like this, but everything else is just very complicated.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that area being quite small, actually.

No, you're quite right, but imo that's not a bad thing, I don't want a new Skyrim.

History repeats itself, you know.

Secondary hub is what I was thinking, though I wish it were more like a full open map of the entire city... which I know will not happen.

As for the Warden and Hawke appearing:
Yes, it's important to keep in mind this is one person who may or not have misunderstood some parts. Keep in mind that this person is probably not native to English.
Man, how I wish this article had been by a Dutch journalist and I could translate everything correctly. Though my Dutch nationality kind of helps with German.

Revan. Revan. The Old Republic.
I consider this very likely, in fact.

Of course, I don't want that either, though this seems to contradict their statements from some time ago about the size of most areas.

It begins to come together, this choice of Cadash for the clan name. Those folks have been out of the common Thedas loop for a while; who knows what they can do?

I honestly think if the PC will have some kind of Fade manipulation ability, it'll be based on what happens in the prologue, and why we lead the Inquisition.

I'm guessing Flemeth swoops down to save the Inquisitor and gifts him these abilities to save the day.

Considering that they can not be mage (this is confirmed, no dwarven mage), I really doubts it.

Morrigan will make an appearance but won't be a party member. The same goes for Hawke and the Warden.

Assuming this is correct, I do so hope the Warden and Morrigan are scheming together if you went through the Eluvian with her.
