I still don't know why we suddenly get Giants ... not that it isn't widespread a fantasy element enough to just attribute it as trying to clone Skyrim ... but why do we suddenly get Giants we never ever heard about before in DA lore.
To be blunt ... I don't think we needed Giants and there is nothing I can see they adding to the world other than additional enemies and minibosses.

I'll take anything that isn't "corrupted player race enemy #746" or "brainwashed/insane player race #464". The more new critters, the better.

You can say the same about most creatures in DA. Bottom line is you're making these assumptions based on their height when besides that, we know nothing about them to make any connections with the giants of skyrim.
Theres already a major thread on this, plus all the discussion thats taken place in the Twitter thread the last day or so

I guess you could just say that they're native to a particular area, like most species.
Hadn't I just said that I wasn't making a connection to Skyrim?
Then there was no point in bringing it up, but as someone else said, we've been stuck in the lower right corner of thedas, a majority of fans would be pissed if no new species were introduced in a game thats literally opening up half of thedas to us to explore. Its a small issue that most can over look if it means gaining that feeling of exploration and discovery

I was bringing up the fact that Giants aren't exclusive to Skyrim to prevent people from screaming "SKYRIM CLONE ERMAHGERD!!!" ... as is so often the case. Why you'd read it as me comparing it to Skyrim is beyond me.

Now which one of us is making assumptions?
I obviusly can't speak for anyone but myself, but I can make due with the current amount of lore the DA universe has to offer. Only a fraction of which has been thoroughly depicted by the existing two games so far. I don't need new stuff just to add something. I'd rather have any additions actually add to the value of the game, the world and its lore other than just "hey, look, new stuff!".
Which is why I said I don't see them being necessary or adding something of value to it.
I like new things in games. I hope the next game has more new enemies and animals.

I misread then, my apologies.
As for your second point, thats just one opinion. A majority of players want to see new things when they step into this game, having brand new creatures in a brand new landscape is very valuable to fans of the franchise. You're implying that it doesnt only based on personal preference. I dont see the cause for complaint in adding creatures the lore, i dont understand how that can be a negative. We have no idea what these creatures add to the lore besides their existence and you're upset only because its a new addition. It only makes sense that being in the opposite corner of Thedas that we'll see new creatures, if there weren't any, that would make for a dull environment, exploring the entire lower half of the DA universe only to see the same creatures we saw in DAO and DA2

Dragon looks menacing.
I tend to see the variety of enemies as a setting vs gameplay thing. Keeping a lid on the variety of monsters tends to result in a more coherent and believable world, but having more variety of things to fight is more fun.
But I think the world can probably fit in a few giants without too much trouble.
edit: Also, I can't help but notice that the giant is big. As inane as that sounds.

Okay.
And I hadn't said they wouldn't add anything to the game for anyone. I had said I don't think they don't add to it. I was always just giving my own opinion.
I am happy to agree on disagreeing and might change my opinion once I get to know what BioWare has in mind for them, how they are introduced, implemented and used throughout the story and world.
The thing I take offense to however is when people somehow inteprete a post in a way that makes them think I had just universally denounced something (this wasn't you, but a couple others here that somehow felt the need to ridicule my opinion (Maria Caliban and upsettingshorts for example) or outright insult me (Thunderfox)), when all I did was give my own personal opinion. I don't even understand why they'd think I would voice anything else but a simply opinion, one that is completely subjective and thus open to ignore, disagree or civily argue with (the latter of which you are doing, which is also the reason why I am explaining myself to you).
Whoa, the giant is... giant. He seemed a lot smaller in the "Discover the Dragon Age" video.

I think those fox creatures may be a little bigger than we were expecting

We've been to two places in the game world... That's like visiting London and Paris and then not believing in kangaroos because you'd never seen them...
..Which actually happened. The kangaroo was considered a myth by Europeans until 1770.
The first kangaroo to be exhibited in the western world was an example shot by John Gore, an officer on Captain Cook's Endeavour in 1770.

What if that was BioWare trolling us with a mount reveal... Except we didn't notice it because the scale was thrown off by the giant?
