o.k i watched search for spock a few weeks ago and as i was replaying mass effect today i noteced a little bit from that film.

in the game its when your rescuing liara from the prothian dig and the krogan stops you when you come back up the elevator. if you say to him "this place is comeing down" he will reply with "yes exilerating isnt it"

which is from the end fight from search for spock kirk says "this planets gonna blow" and the klingon replys with "yes exilerating isnt it"

so has anyone else spotted a movie quote in the game

I never knew that, that's awesome! I found a movie quote on that sidequest where you have to defend Lieutenant Durand and her unit from waves of rachni, then go kill the rachni broods. After the first wave I think, you talk to Lt. Durand and she says something like "we won't last" and your option is "That's defeatist talk" and you say "secure those negative waves Lieutenant"

Which is what Oddball aka Donald Sutherland said throughout Kelly's Heroes. It's not an exact quote, since Oddball says 'Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves! Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" Made me lol

Nice find.

As for the Listening Post Alpha: As the whole setup was an kind of obvious reference to Starship Troopers, the line there Durand demands, that the Rachni are just testing them, is basically a quote of said film. However, i don't recall the exact words.

Aye there are nice quotes like that. My favorite quotes so far are the Winston Churchill they decided to use. Entertaining ones :D

I remember seeing search for spock in the theatre with some buddies (trying not to show my age). My buddy kept saying I know that klingon from somewhere. Halfway through the movie he yells out IGGGYYYY!!!!!! The whole place broke out laughing and we couldnt take the scenes with the klingon seriously anymore, well serious for the movie.

For those that can remember that far back (now Im really showing my age), The TV show TAXI - the character IGGY was played by Christopher Llyod who played the Klingon Captain in Search for Spock.

There are a lot of 'nods' in ME. Rachni are the bugs from Ender's Game. The Leviathan of Dis is probably a nod to Moya from Farscape. Benezia is Marina Syritis. I know of more, but it's late and my brain won't work. ;_;

The Leviation has more connections to Dante's Inferno (the poem, not the up and coming game) than to Farscape. And I always associated the Rachni with the Starship Troopers bugs, but huge insects are such a entrenched trope in science fiction, that it's probably a mistake to point at any one movie/book and state that THIS is where the Rachni drew inspiration from. :)

You think a biologically engineered living starship called a Leviathan has more to do with poetry than with another biologically engineered living starship called a Leviathan? I'm afraid your logic escapes me. :) (edit: Although the fact that they found it on 'Dis' probably is a Dante reference. Two birds with one stone.)

Likewise the Rachni Queen decision is such an obvious parallel to Ender's Game where Ender also discovers a Bugger Queen egg and makes the decision between freeing it or commiting final Genocide. I'll grant that the bugs from Starship Troopers were also telepathic hive minds, but they had a more distributed setup with specialized brain bugs similar to the Cerebrates of the Zerg. (Who were almost certainly inspired by Starship troopers.) At any rate, yes hive minded bugs are a common trope, but the almost exact parallel between Ender's game and Noveria is inescapable.

Lessee, other nods include the clear 'Forbidden Planet' reference on Junthor, and possibly the 'Great Rift valley' on Klendagon which might be a nod to the Planet 'Canyon' in Larry Niven's Known Space books, which also has a weaponry caused great valley which contains a habitably dense atmosphere on a planet otherwise to thin to support human life.

LMAO. I wasn't even alive when that movie came out. I first saw him as Taber or Doc. I haven't seen a Taxi rerun in a long time.

The Quarian/Geth are an almost direct lift off of Battlestar.

"Good luck Commander. Remember, we're all counting on you." - Asari Councilor.

I'll be damned if I can remember which debrief it's from, but that's a great Airplane quote that makes me giggle every time I hear her say it. Leslie Nielsen rocks.
