I keep seeing Oghren myself. Not Sebastian. Perhaps a combination of both in a way.
Yeah Oghren was pretty neutral, IB sounds neutral. They just want to get drunk, get paid and get laid

IB sounds like a good guy to me actually, since his unofficial reason for helping the Inquisitor is that he's pissed at all the people being attacked by demons. My personal mental image of him (as of now) is a cross between Oghren and Han Solo.
Hmm, just noticed another quote about IB, apparently he's "got a thing about demons", sounds like IB and Cole aren't going to be getting along too well either.
Sooo... if he's still of the Qun, what's up with his lifestyle?

D'aaw. I hope Iron Bull isn't too harsh or cold towards Cole ![]()

He's spying for the Qun.
The Qun doesn't need to know about his lifestyle of debauchery ![]()

He is undercover...and enjoying it.

So... like the Donnie Brasco of the Qun. He's fallen too deep. Becoming a junky.

My Adaar is going to enjoy corrupting him further then. ![]()

I actually hadn't thought of that before. It certainly isn't the first time Cole would end up causing a rift in a group. Actually, it will be really interesting to see IB interact with magic/magical users, from the snippet about Vivienne he doesn't, apparently, hate mages, but Cole and possible Dorian (being Tevinter, Official Tolken Good Magister or not) are rather different breeds.
(Also hellooo new forums, haven't been around the BSN since DA2 launch
)
I like the way his characterisation will seemingly play against type plus yay for characters being upfront about things rather than secretive.

It occurs to me that I hadn't given any real thought to Iron Bull's opinion of Cole up until now. Makes sense that it would be negative.
Still, have no intention of using Cole at any rate, so I doubt it'll come up much.
I hope him and Varric still for the most part get along. They were both supposed to be on my party. They are both supposed to have humor and love fun so I thought they'd have some funny banter and get along.

They might eventually as the journey goes on, I kinda expect Varric to also be distant with my female qunari too. It makes sense since Varric did see the qunari at their worst.
I don't mind it, really. I see it as an evolution of Varric's character that he's not going to get along with everyone. It makes a degree of sense; DA2 companions weren't part of an organization or even really united for a common cause. They were just the competent combatants that Hawke happened to know and who liked and respected Hawke enough to follow him/her around. So in DA2 when Varric was in the party he was essentially just hanging out with his friends, even if they were occasionally vitriolic.
In DAI, this is more of a job. He's tied to these people in some official capacity within the organization of the Inquisition. That gives a lot more opportunities for teeth clenched team work.
And I can see Iron Bull as someone he wouldn't necessarily like in this capacity. Openly spying on the group, member of the qun, doesn't seem to take a lot seriously what with his life style, and he's joining the inquisition at least partly to get paid.
Varric wasn't particularly antagonistic or vitriolic toward Sebastian back in DA2, but of course times have changed and he was the one telling the story back then. It makes it hard to picture him going head to head IB, though. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if the IB-Varric banter had much less Wicked Grace references than, say, Carver's.

I think we're looking at an Aveline vs. Isabella type situation here as supposed to a Fenris vs. Anders one. Varric's never been one to start fights, and IB if definitely not in the mood to argue religion.

My main will be a qunari as well, but I cant see it getting in the way of Varrics relationship with the Inquisitor unless you want it to.

I think at first Varric might be wary but he'll calm down depending on how the first meeting happens. If you try to spout Qun crap at him, I doubt he'll be happy. He'll probably go oh not this again...

I agree, but I don't thing it totally depends on the first meeting. Even if you do spout Qun stuff at him, I think you can still make up for that later and still have a good relationship with him as long as you don't do it alot
From the sound of it in the interview it actually sounded like Varric would be the instigator of whatever hostilities/dislike there'll be between the two.
I imagine Varric making some snarky comments towards Iron Bull regarding his previous experiences with the qunari and Iron Bull just having none of it.
My guess is that whatever broke him had to do with demons and resulted in the loss of his eye. Just a guess.
I don't know that he necessarily needed a big, climatic event to be "broken" from his old work, but "a demon did it" is as solid as a theory as any, at the moment. I think it'd be very interesting just to have him, this large, life loving guy crack under plain old constant strain. I mean, it's Thedas, one doesn't need much of an excuse to hate demons. They're creepy, they ruin stuff and also they're magic, a possible and very likely black-stain on them for many people.

Maybe he had to kill someone he considered innocent or a good friend due to them being in contact with a mage that couldve "corrupted them"

I kind of imagine that the start of Varric's hostilities might actually come in the form of some "helpful" advice to the Inqusitor.
Something along the lines of...
"Listen, Inquisitor, I know you're the boss and everything but are you sure letting this Iron Bull guy in is the right idea? He might seem like an alright guy now, but I've dealt with the Qunari before and let me tell you, one wrong move on your part and they'll turn on you faster than Bianca can fire a shot if they believe it'll satisfy the "demands of their Qun"
