What if it's all an act? Since he is a spy (I'm not well versed enough in the Qun society or language to start throwing any of their own terms around) isn't it possible that this persona he has is part of the job... What if he really is a stoic as the other qunari but is merely extremely good at playing the specific part he was assigned? Anyone think this would be an interesting turn of events?

... This is my first post ever... please don't rip me to shreds ;)

An interview with Patrick Weekes seems to say the opposite of it

I'm actually feeling really invested in Viv and IB's friendship right now. I can't tell if it will be funny or sweet.

Same. I can't wait to hear their party banter. Those two are gonna permanent members of my party

Eh... It's possible, but I think he's genuinely over-enjoying having freedom for the first time in his life. I know I would be. Qunari society doesn't even have cookies! Besides, he's apparently going to be very open about the whole "spy" thing, so it's not like acting in any specific way would help or hinder his ability to get info. If he was genuinely trying to pass himself off as a merc, I'd be more inclined to the acting theory.

Still, it's not a bad theory, Kewlios. All the other Qunari so far have been pretty dour, but there roles didn't allow them to be anything else. IB's does, you know?

I don't know; I've heard part of the basis for that friend ship is that she "keeps him in line", which is precisely what I didn't want in an Iron Bull/Viv friendship(which I called).

Gives me more motivation not to pick up Vivienne.

This better be a mount option.

Sort of like this, I expect?

I wonder exactly what her idea of "keeping in line" is. I don't want another Wynne.

edit: I didn't want a first one either.

Isn't it plausible that the description given was of the character that Iron Bull has created around himself and not of the true nature that rest at his core? It would be a little anticlimactic of the devs if they gave away his rues before he had a chance to build up our trust.

I can see that; their roles are clean cut lines while his are blurred at best. plus I guess my theory doesn't really mesh with the whole "fearing something from his past" portion of his character.

I loved Wynne. But I don't think Vivienne will be anything like her

Probably she will form time to time hit Iron Bull with a stick, when he gets too enthusiastic like ripping things apart or getting too drunk or spending too much money

Was no elaboration, just "she keeps him in line."

I don't want Iron Bull kept in line.

I'd rather not interfere with the guy either way. If he's somehow torn between two worlds, then I'd prefer he came to his own opinion. If more exposure to other ways of life makes him question the Qun, so be it.

I didn't like forcing too much change in DA2, but that's what some dialogue revolved around. With Isabela, it's a bit necessary.. since slaves are at stake, when it came to her ship.

edit: Not that this this has much to do with Vivienne. I'm just concerned about my own character options of keeping people in "line".

He seems to have several things in common with Tallis. I wonder if he's going to get the same kind of hatred from BSN for them.

In seriousness though, this is a prime example of me having spoiled myself by having come up with a preconception of what the character relationship was going to be and ending up off the mark.

I had assumed Iron Bull and Vivienne would be friends but I had also assumed the basis for that friendship would be the opposite of what it appears to actually be; that he'd be the one member of the party who was completely unintimidated by her "wit" and "sass".

I'm sure Vivienne fans will like this development, but to me it seems like more shilling of her character. Just my own, heavily biased opinion.

I wasn't *as* excited for him until I saw that trailer, I did the same thing with Sera.

I've already said this but I'm so pleased with the fact that he actually looks like a mercenary. Every other merc in the series has looked, I don't know, not like one I guess.

I kind of like that iron Bull might actually respect Vivienne enough to listen to her. Of course knowing how the Qunari view mages, it might be less out of respect and more out of fear, which I like less.

But when you get down to it "keeping him in line" could be interpreted in quite a few different ways depending on how serious Weekes was.

The idea of Iron Bull being at all afraid of her is what worries me. Iron Bull isn't supposed to be afraid of anything but his own inner demons. The idea of him being at all intimidated by Vivienne is ridiculous.

So let's hope it means something else.

I am rather surprised that Varric and Him might not totally get along, they seem both to be a Dark humored Carpe Diem sort of person.

It is surprising until you consider how much Varric loves Kirkwall... and how profoundly the qunari presence affected the city. For him to meet a Qunari Ben Hassrath who makes no apologies for what his people have done - and who seems to have adopted non-qunari culture so enthusiastically - must strike Varric as hypocritical.

I'm not laying fault or blame on either side here. A little friction between followers adds to the enjoyment. But I do understand how their relationship might be strained. For what it's worth, I imagine that any conflict would be one-sided. Varric would have more of a problem with IB than IB would have with Varric. But it might make for a few good banters.

Also, is anybody else's mind boggled by how much alcohol IB would have to drink to make himself sick on it?
