A lot of people seem to want him to be a rogue because that would mean the character they want is likely to get a spot in the party with a 3/3/3 split. At least, that's what I'm taking away from a lot of the posts on this subject. Could be wrong, probably am. There's also the possibility that those two weapons, which look more like swords than daggers, to me, are just part of his armor -- as in, he won't use them at all.

Yes, a lot of people are reaaaaally wanting Cullen in the party.  I do wonder if he's not a companion whether people can romance him anyway--it will stop a lot of fan-angsting if they can.

I kind of suspect that Iron Bull will end up being a potential romance.  Lots of players went on about how sexy the qunari men are (I don't personally see it, but that's just me).  The other option, then, would be Solas, more than likely, leaving no human options, unless they have more than four total romances.

I also don't know why people expect a perfect split between classes.  It wouldn't surprise me if we had four warriors, two mages, and three rogues.  Or four warriors, three mages, and two rogues.  I would prefer an even split, but they haven't ever done an even split between classes before, have they?  Or am I misremembering?  So Cullen could very well still be a party member, whether Iron Bull is a warrior or not.

The more I read about Iron Bull, the more I'm liking the initial character design =D

Sorry if I read that wrong, but are you saying people want Bull to be a rogue because they want Cullen?

Not Cullen specifically, no. There's quite a few different combinations of characters that I've seen.

Edit: Lemme just put it out there that I'm not saying that's the only reason some people want him to be rogue.

I think the romances are probably Solas and a male we don't know about yet.

I really still don't think Iron Bull is a rogue. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I could even see the grey warden as a rogue before Iron Bull, but I don't really think he is either. From what we've seen of their overall design, I think they're both warriors.

I'm still pulling for three romances per gender.

I also don't think Iron Bull will dual wield; I agree that the smaller weapons at his belt will probably just be decorative, part of his appearance that he won't use in gameplay. He might use them them in cutscenes, like how Tali only ever used the knife in her boot once in the whole Mass Effect series.

It's strange, but this is the first time I've been pleased with all potential romance options. I'd be thrilled to get Cullen, Beardy Warden, Moustache Guy, Iron Bull, or Varric. Not to mention, the ladies are all fab as well. Solas... I'm not overly keen on him yet, but that goes to my dislike of the elf revamp in general. His character is what will set him apart for me.

Earlier I went on a little rant in the companions thread about why I don't want Iron Bull to be a rogue; it was something of a rehash/elaboration of a similar rant I went on earlier in this thread.

I'd like to add to it here.

I think a lot of people are looking at Iron Bull and hoping he subverts or deconstructs the idea of the big, burly, boisterous badass. The thing is, that's a character type that I don't think needs any more deconstruction or subversion. It's gotten plenty of both over the past decades. Even within the Dragon Age games, we haven't seen it played remotely straight.

Sten was a stoic, religious fish out of water. Oghren was a vicious deconstruction of the archetype. Fenris was a clever subversion in his own right.

What this character type needs isn't subverting, it's reconstructing. Iron Bull needs to be gruff, boisterous, hard drinking, loves fighting kind of guy. He needs to be the guy who isn't going to sneak around, but charge head long into the thick of it. But he should also be intelligent and cunning, as well as charismatic. The guy's the leader of a mercenary group; it needs to be clear why his mean follow him and there needs to be a better reason than he's the toughest out of all of them, even though he should be.

I agree 100%, nothing about his design suggests rogue and also I haven't seen a straight up barbarian warrior in games for a while. I say bring em back!

Yeah, I've been hoping for three, because thus far the only romance option that I'd consider seriously would be Solas.  Qunari do nothing for me, the Warden is too old... and we don't know if Dramatic Hands is even a companion--and if he is, and turns out to be Rhys, he won't be available anyhow (I suspect he's Dorian instead).

That said, my mind can change.  I romanced Garrus and I didn't ever find him physically attractive--but an interesting personality and a good voice actor for the character can go a long way.  I'm not playing for sexy, I'm playing for the story.

... And now I kind of hope Iron Bull is voiced by Keener.  Or that Solas is.  I doubt either of them would be, because Keener doesn't sound European in any way, shape, or form.

I haven't seen any characters I'd want to romance yet. It's a little disappointing, but I'm hoping there will be an unannounced option that I'll like.

Ah OK. I have noticed more people squealing for Cullen than just about anyone else so I made that assumption. I am still holding out the hope that we wont get him as a party member and will get another woman (since we're not getting a DLC character).

Hell to the yeah! My femQunari Inquisitor ain't gonna be too happy if she can't have a piece of the Bull. She might just set fire to all of Thedas if he rejects her advances. Can't say I'd blame her, tbh.

Agreed! Our quizzy's can burn Thedas together if this happens :<

So, called this in the Vivienne thread, gonna call it here, too.

Vivienne's gonna have the hots for Iron Bull.

I am not shipping them, wanna make that clear.

But so far in two games we've had two mage ladies have the hots for qunari men; Morrigan in Origins and Merrill in DA2. Vivienne will continue the trend here.

.

Only if it's played for laughs. If he is a romance option, my Qunquisitor may be a little...possessive.

If he's not, well, then my Qunquisitor will be upset that he has no interest in her, so it still won't end well.

Qunari don't actually seem to care about their horns very much.

I've been entertaining the thought that Iron Bull might be an LI for awhile now, and with only two companions left to be revealed and the lack of any obvious male LI's I'm drawing closer to actually considering it to be the case. I would like to see at least one LI of a race we haven't seen so far (so either Qunari or Dwarf), so I would actually be pleasantly surprised if he is.

He seems to fill the "dashing rogue" archetype from his concept art, but I suppose we will have to wait until we know more about him.

If IB isn't an LI (I'll live, but):

I remember not being too enamored with Iron Bull when I first saw the leaked survey. He reminded me of Oghren, just with more height and less morals. But the subsequent screenshots, trailers, etc somehow managed to move him into my "that's a badass and I wanna know more" camp. I'm actually kind of hoping he's a LI now.

Though that last part may be because Cullen (if he's a companion) doesn't appeal to me, Varric is still hung up on Bianca iirc, and Solas doesn't look like LI material. Which leaves just Iron Bull and the Grey Warden.

I'd actually be pretty cool with this, considering I think the two could have an odd friendship sort of thing going (I blame the horns). They probably won't in game though and that makes me sad

The people in Solas' thread disagree. One male LI is obviously going to be a human, i highly suspect that another one will be an elf, so unless Bioware is generous to go out of their 2/2 pattern, there's no room for IB. In my opinion, of course.

I think part of the problem is that, as far as someone's concerned, each of the male companions is a suitable and desirable LI.

I will say that I think Iron Bull is probably the least likely LI out of the companions we know about, but the desire for him to be a love interest doesn't seem to be any less than the desire for Solas or Beard Warden.

*Mythal's Favor on Nefla* Keep the faith, gurl! We have just as much a chance of romancing IB as any other LI! We will have our yummy Qunari, just you wait!
