Apparently you meet Sten (now the Arishok) in the game and you can convince him to ally with the Inquisition......unless you are a qunari mage, in which case he refuses to trust you.  I suspect that this might be the confusion.

Refusing to just talk or refusing to aid the Inquisition? If its just to talk then it'll be "Bull, go back to Skyhold." To aid the Inquisition, "Bull, stay at Skyhold for this mission.

The post I read about it used the phrase "auto fail" if you bring Bull or are a Qunari mage. Perhaps Sten isn't aware of Bull helping the Inquisition and he needs to continue to be in the dark? I'm pretty sure the Ben-Hassrath aren't under the Arishok's domain.

Even if the warden was a mage? I'd be nice if the warden being a mage let him trust you after a short quest proving your integrity

I'm sure being a human or elven mage is fine. The Warden could have been a mage, and the Warden is someone Sten respects. Qunari mages are seen as dangerous dogs loose from their chains. Since Sten practices the Qun, it makes perfect sense why he'd refuse a Qunari mage because in his culture mages without handlers aren't to be trusted because they could be influenced by demons.

 

In my opinion, I'm super, super happy about this. It means Bioware has made Thedas more real than both Origins and DA2 combined. We are actually confined by the limits and going-ons of the world. Our race and gender will play a bigger role this time around, and it certainly ups the replay value. I have got to say that I am very impressed with what spoilers I've seen so far concerning the consequences of our past decisions.

Hopefully it's only okay to be a human or elven mage if the warden was a mage. The qunari don't exactly have exceptions for other races mages judging from DA2.

 

Not to mention the PC was never of the Qun. He/she should be treated like a Bas like the rest of his/her group.

 

I'm kind of meeeh. I guess I'll live though. Losing one resource isn't the end of the world.

I want him so badly after that talk in haven! When I saw those flirt options I stopped breathing until he picked them. I really loved how defensive the big guy got when the inquisitor wanted to know what was wrong with being who he was. The difference in tone was nice, great job FPJ! The sex conversation was awesome, it really isn't a big deal for him. This man was made for me. The love of my life is finally here.

Cassandra actually will ask you where you are from & you are able to tell her the truth, lie & say you don't remember. In the case of the qunquisitor he stated that he is from.the free marches. If he said anywhere specifically I don't remember. These Iron Bull videos are messing with my head right now.

I don't know but I doubt we will find out. They did say that our background isn't that important. Personally I really don't care since this isn't D&D so there is no need to make some long drawn out background involving my dead parents (everyone's parents are always dead lol).
