So, I just did Bull's quest, "Demand of the Qun"...

I ultimately chose to sacrifice the Chargers. When we returned to Skyhold, I was relieved to see "Iron Bull Greatly Approves" but... I feel so badly for Bull! He's been my bro this entire playthrough, and it's so painful to see him so upset as he was!

I had a question; was flirting withBlackwall and decided to flirt with Bull a bit. Ever since arriving in Skyhold, no flirt options period; his approval is through the roof, did his personal quest and killed a dragon and nothing. I have flirt options with everyone else but him. Any guidance or have I not reached a certain point to flirt yet? I haven't even done Blackwall's personal quest so I am confused. :/ Thanks!!

There aren't a ton of flirt options with Bull, but I had a conflict with Blackwall too. I ended up following Blackwall's romance until the decision cutscene and then breaking it off during that scene, and immediately after Iron Bull's cutscenes activated, so maybe try that?

Yeah, I did the opposite and he still approved... but his card changed and it looks really sad. :s Makes me wonder if I chose right. I guess either way is pretty depressing.

Yes, you totally chose right because he's not an agent of the Soviet Qunion anymore. I mean, it may not be what he really wants, but when you think about it, isn't what I want more important? Even in other people's playthroughs? (especially in other people's playthroughs?)

 

I do wonder, does his card change no matter what you choose? If so, what does the one where he stays Qunari look like?

I got a save for right before that decision. The card looks like a marching formation of qunari with a heavily red background. That was an easy enough choice for me. Good friends beat out political alliances any day.

With minimal difficulty, in my case. They're members of the counter-intelligence apparatus of a fairly nasty empire. (or are they something else? it's been a few days since I've played this quest) That doesn't mean I think they should be summarily executed under any circumstance, (that's insane) but would I recommend Bull save his friends over them, even/especially if doing so would likely force him to leave the Qunari? Yes.

 

But I can't actually speak for other people (despite what I said...) and I know their moral calculus will be different. The Chargers are mercenaries, after all. Of course, the question of whether the Chargers or an unknown number of Qunaris lives are worth more is not as important as whether an alliance with the Qunari would save more lives in the end. But my Inquisitor's an anti-Qunari Tal-Vashoth, so this wasn't something he was that enthused about it in the first place. In fact, he only let Bull join and took this quest because the person controlling him had meta-game knowledge that something like this (having an opportunity to deQunvert Bull, not deciding whether the Chargers or random Qunari should die) seemed likely to happen.

By the way, I don't know if this has been discussed yet, (almost certainly) but Dorian has some unique content on Bull's mission. Take him along if you're interested.

He fights with the Qunari elf about slavery and individual freedom in the Tevinter Empire and Par Vollen. You can lose Bull's approval by siding with Dorian, or say both countries have flaws for no gain/loss either way, and there are two more options, I think. Siding with the Qunari and... something else. I'm not sure if you can actually raise anyone's approval, but it's interesting regardless.

 

Also, both Dorian and Iron Bull engage in some grade-A whataboutery in early conversations with them. "Sure, slavery/totalitarianism are grim, but there's poverty in southern Thedas! Think about THAT." They are compatible in many ways, truly. No wonder they hook up.

I had the 3 romance scenes with Iron Bull and just... I don't know, I like them, but something rubs me the wrong way. Bull's romance feels kind of distant in comparison to e.g. Zevran's romance arc in Origins. I don't feel any emotions towards the scenes and I don't understand why he would be even interested in the inquisitor. 

I mean, he doesn't even show interest. He just says that he gets the hints and that he's aware you want to have sex with him. That's it.

In that third scene it's more about love, but it still seems off. Those feelings come out of nowhere super randomly.

You can't have a healthy relationship by just having sex without talking about each other. :/

 

It bothers me that we couldn't decide how the romance progressed. You just let Bull top all the time, and if you're not ok with that, you can only break up. It feels too linear in my opinion. I wish there would have been more ways of exploring the romance arc. I don't know, maybe changing the way Bull sees love and romance and all that stuff? Asking Bull why he's so into bdsm, why it's so important to him?

 

The devs were talking about how there would be more content to the romances, but I guess I expected too much... :/

@PrayingMantis: Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. I mean, there were some sweet parts, such as him saying he'll be your place to rest and not worry about millions of lives. And the Inquisitor going out just to kill a dragon for him is touching. But overall it felt...I don't know, rushed? I had no problem imagining them as BFFs because those friendship scenes were written very well, but the actual romance seemed to progress very quickly with no warnings. I mean, second date and I'm asking about something serious. Third date and I'm practically proposing. It was jarring.

 

Though I LOVE the scene where Cullen, Josephine, and Cassandra all walk in on the two of you. I'm not sure whose reaction was funnier, but I've got a save right before it just so I can watch it again.

@PrayingMantis - the only romantic/tender moments that struck me were the "Kadan...my heart" line, and if you choose the dialogue option in the final sex scene where you start to imply you might die...he says something a la "Katoh. Stop. I can't. We will both make it out alive".  Breaking up with him, even just before the end, is completely emotionally barren; a simple "No problem! Talk to you later".

 

Recently I watched the male version of the IB romance and I was disappointed as there was no male equivalent to the "you have an amazing set of t*ts" comment in the drinking scene, and the end dialogue options were not romantically geared (no "I love you" option, etc).  Of course, the playthrough on YouTube was one that had Bull stay within the Qun so I was wondering if this was the reason...I saved the Chargers on my playthrough; anyone know?  If it changed simply because "men = less romantic, el oh el!" that would be frustrating.

The options change depending on what you do on his personal quest, it's not decided by gender.

Talking about the romance, I agree that I would have liked more transition. That's my only real complaint.

It plays out like more of a casual fling until you make the necklace, then it suddenly gets serious. I would have liked one scene in between that, where we could talk about feelings and his past. I really wanted to learn more about him.  I wish the way to learn about the necklace happened in a scene like that, rather than just through his normal dialogue when in a relationship. I almost didn't find it, and wouldn't have been able to complete the romance if I hadn't.

 

That said, I'm not too disappointed, because the final scene was sweet. I think there's definitely more romance content than the previous games, but how the content flows perhaps wasn't handled perfectly.

I'm doing his personal quest right now and I staring at the screen with the choices of saving the chargers or letting them die. I hate bioware for doing this to me right now. The last thing I want is for the big guy to feel isolated in any way. If I kill the chargers he'll lose his men; people that are close to him. They're like a close knit group of outcast that band together & proved that looka can be deceiving. If I let them live then he becomes Tal-Voshoth. The Inquisition loses all the Qunari alliea but most importantly his people turn their backs on him. He'll be like a fish out of the water but the chargers are alive at least.

I want my Bull happy! Why can't I have the option to throw my shield like captain america at the Venatori or grappling chain a few of them up to me to even the odds. Then when I get back to Skyhold Iron Bull drags me into a dark corner to show his thanks. Damn yoi bioware! Damn you!!!

Hello! Can I ask for some help from those who have pursued IB's storyline and/or romance?

 

It's been at least 10h since I've left Haven for Skyhold, and ever since I've exhausted his dialogue wheel in the first go (picked 2 flirt options back there in Haven), no option to talk to him other than "Goodbye" has appeared. Is this... normal? I'm at mind that this is a bug, because I've progressed everyone's storyline & personal quests, while flirting like crazy with Josie and Dorian. Iron Bull remains unaffected tho >: He hasn't given me his personal quest either.

 

Should he have more conversation options once they arrive in Skyhold? Or is he just really quiet?
